Should have known better. I thought the Thursday cliffhanger was a turning point for the inept Headwriting team of Cwikly/Ford after a year of writing scenes. Turns out it was fake. It figures. Days is truly in the worst shape that it has ever been. No real stories. Ken Corday needs to pitch his 63rd plan to save Days to Peacock. And I get that they are almost a year ahead in taping. Shudder at what’s to come.

Been really enjoying Days of Our Lives lately. Is it perfect? No. But it's definitely improved. Have not enjoyed watching this much since prior to the fiftieth anniversary in 2015.

I totally agree with you. DAYS was awful for months but I was completely invested this entire week. It was actually exciting and there was story movement. Noel Maxam's experience is definitely on display.

It really is; it's amazing what happens when an EP comes in who has an actual vision and clear intent/care for the soap they're producing. It shows.

-- I wish I could pinpoint where they went wrong with the Sophia story, but they did. I agree with those who say they made her TOO crazy for TOO long.

I'd say the first place was when Sophia, who wanted to be with Tate, was still determined to give up "his" baby for adoption, instead of using it to try to steal him away from Holly.

Dropping the baby off at the firehouse, without a really good reason or motivation didn't help either.

Making her full on psycho was the final nail in the coffin, IMO

Today was a slow one.

But I did like the way that the news of Sophia trying to kill Johnny spread across Salem. Every character in today's episode was involved in the aftermath somehow and I like that. It makes Salem feel like a big community. I just think that the writers needed to add more to a lot of scenes today, in order to further grab people's attention.

And it was nice to see Javi tell Leo off at the beginning, even though Al's acting was once again... 😂😂😂

He really didn't come off like a guy that had inhaled noxious gases lol maybe he could've used a little more direction. But I hope that Javi actually does have a bf in Texas, and that he isn't just making it up to get Leo off his back. There are many more story opportunities for Javi if the bf does turn out to be real, or if he finds another bf in Salem.

Johnny and Chanel were sweet today and their little family bonding moment with Trey was nice. I still think that Chanel having cancer isn't the right storyline for them though.

As for EJ/Kristen, and Rafe/Cat too for that matter, I probably would've liked all their scenes and their storylines a lot more if they had involved any characters other than them. The biggest problem is just them lol

But I am somewhat interested in seeing what happens now for Kristen.

The recast is where they went wrong with Sophia. I rag on the Rachel Boyd regularly, but she really couldn't handle the material. At some point Days should have either recast again or figured out something that RB could handle. Honestly, though, I am not sure acting in general is her forte lol.

The show also seemed to be writing this Sophia story as they went along. I don't ever think there was a strong idea for the middle and end of this story. Sophia kept doing things that were shocking in the moment but didn't make sense as an overall arc for the character.

IMO, the show should have gotten rid of Sophia when she had the breakdown.

I completely disagree. Using a child to snare a lover is a bad outdated trope for women that I haven't found entertaining in decades. I thought it was wonderful that they went with a "young woman choosing not to be a mother at this time" - it truly was her choice! And then she stood by her choice, and dropped the child at the firehouse, which was the most responsible thing she could have done under the circumstances. I thought it was a great storyline, and affirms that woman can choose motherhood, abortion, or releasing the child to adoption, and when nobody backed her, she did what she could.

Rachel Boyd did interviews in which she said she had spent a lot of time researching what it would be like to give birth alone, and how to get into character for those birth scenes. She did okay with that, but was flat with everything else. I have no idea what she submitted for her audition tape but I wonder if they gave her an birthing script to practice for her audition? Otherwise I don't know why they cast her.

And of course there's the 10-month tape-to-air gap that makes adjustments difficult. But contracts are for the benefit of the show. not the actor. A one-year-contract is actually four 13-week contracts, and a show can release you at the end of any 13-week period. So why did they keep her?

Agree with both of you on that.

Yeah it seems they suddenly decided to switch who she was. At first she was the soap teen trying to disrupt her love interest's current relationship, by messing with Holly. Seems like they decided to make her "Jan Spears", and that didn't work -- I think it didn't work due to both writing and acting. The initial concept may have been good in theory but the writing was all over the place.

And yeah I completely agree that making Sophia a full-on psycho didn't work at all! That was just awful.

It especially upset me that the writers decided to give Sophia her no redeeming qualities. I was cheering her on when she fought to give up her child and was strong in her decision -- she was still a misguided teen, although of legal age, but she did the best she could. A good story.

It feels (to me) that the show abruptly decided to have a psycho character. They should have sent Sophia out of town, and then created a completely new character as the psychotic person. Jan Spears was wild and amoral but Heather Lindell had layers in her characterization of Jan Spears.

I agree Boyd did fairly well with the birthing scenes, but mostly everything else has been rough. Especially considering MK was quite good in the role beforehand.

I have no idea why the kept Boyd. She should have been written out once she had a breakdown. You could always revisit Sophia down the line but since

spoiler

Tate and Holly are out next year it doesn't make much sense.

Remember when Nick Fallon started to rape Gabi outside in the woods, and she reached out for a rock and bashed him in the head with the rock in self-defense, not intending to kill him at that time, just to make him stop. Kate and Sami arrived and unscientifically determined that Nick was "dead". Sami and Kate convinced Gabi that they should dispose of the body. Gabi was acting in self-defense, so I don't remember why they didn't call the police.. The three women dragged Nick's body through the woods to the river and threw him in the river. They had some sort of elaborate scheme in which they had Nick's phone and used it to text the Hortons to say he was out of town. But Nick wasn't actually dead, just unconscious, and he was secretly rescued from the river by some guy Percy Ruggles. Ruggles was out birdwatching with his camera, and had witnessed the ladies throwing Nick in the river, and took photos. The photos were used to blackmail the ladies at some point. Meanwhile, Nick stayed in hiding for a long while and then made a dramatic return reveal.
From this storyline came the phrase "river-dead".

So now Kristen bashes Sophia in the head with a rock and throws her in the river.

Is Sophia "river-dead" or really most sincerely dead?
