I have to ask, are we supposed to root for Vanessa? Because as it stands she disgusts me.

She has disgusted me from her second or third episode. That STD act grew increasingly tiresome as time went by... the scenes felt dumb and cartoonish and then the predictable descent into mafia... really boring. In her current condition... I don't take her seriously at all. She's like a joke I have to endure till the good parts are back.

Nicole just wanted to sleep with Carlton and had to rein herself in from using him. Just like she was going to sleep with Ted, but got shut down by the fire alarm.

I've said it before, but Joey's shelf life is limited and there needs to be some movement towards his downfall or at least him vanishing and leave Vanessa holding the bag.

She's a complicated woman, that's for sure. I feel like Doug's death could've been a turning point to her but her actions since then have started to turn me off her. Especially the way she's dismissing Donnell, not to protect him but so she can go back to Joey. It's taking her more in a villainess direction in my mind.

At this point I need them to go all in and make her a full on villain like Joey. If not, we need to start seeing some better judgement out of her.

Really good question, and I'm not sure of the answer. But if she's supposed to be rootable, for me it's an epic fail.

If she really wants to be with Joey, why? Is it his money? Because a high-powered realtor would be making 6 figures. Is it power? She should have enough power selling mansions, and she was part of a power couple when Doug was alive.

Is this a ruse to take Joey down? Again, why? And does she have to have "mind-blowing orgasms" to do that?

Vanessa didn't care about Doug and she doesn't give a damn about her children. From the first week of this show, she's been nothing but an easy lay with no class.

At least Diego was hot. Now she's horny for Golden Corral Casino Mobster Joey??? Embarrassing.

I'm rooting for Vanessa! She's one of the best unknown actors on the show, her arc has been clear and defined all along and she's a lot of fun to watch. I also think she has chemistry with JL/Joey. Sure, he's aging slime but that's part of the point. He's a bad man and they're both doing terrible things. That's soap! I find Vanessa compulsively watchable, and I can't say that about certain core characters.

Oh my God... how beautifully you describe this woman... or should I call her... a bad cliche.

I still feel like Vanessa is playing the long game with Joey.

Vanessa is a nasty ho and from what's been shown so far not a very good parent. I'm waiting to see what type of relationship she has with her daughter. Maybe someday one of her children will call her out and put her on blast for her ho ways.

This I 100% agree with. She's one of the most fascinating characters on the show and one of their strongest actors. I'm not finding her likable right now but not in an Ashley/Derek/Tomas way. She's endlessly watchable just going down a dark path which of course is good for drama!

We don't see Vanessa the businesswoman, only Vanessa the floozy. Obviously her unseen staff of 20 are beavering away at her unseen office keeping the business afloat.

We recently learned there's a LOT more to Hayley's motivations that what had been shown to us.  I think the same is true of Vanessa.

Right now, I believe Vanessa is on a "revenge tour", because she appears to blame Joey Armstrong completely for Doug's death.  The day after Doug's funeral, we saw her slithering around with her perky hooters bursting out of her dress, begging to become "Joey's full partner".   I think she wants to infiltrate Joey's organization deeper so she can discover if he hauled her out of town while he had Doug killed, and so she can discover who actually did it and the extent of Joey's criminal dealings.

The "mind-blowing orgasms on the pool table" that she told Dani about are likely to make her appear more sincere about still being attracted to Joey.

I may be wrong.  We'll see.

She's very enjoyable. Of course she's doing awful, hypocritical things but I understand Vanessa because they laid her character and arc out better than almost anyone else on the show in the earlier months.

I do think (assuming the new creative shift does not abandon this story) that in the end she will take Joey's organization and usurp him.

Agreed 100% on this all.

I dunno why, but I couldn't stop laughing whenever Nicole's maid was on screen today.  Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing (but really--she has a maid?  Even though she often works from home and also has her assistants, etc?)

Lamon Archey doesn't sound too bad as Luke Hawthorne at all. Throw in Cassandra Freeman as Darlene and it's complete.

As for Mr. Jamey Giddens, he was pretty stellar with "Ambitions". THINGS HAPPENED on that show complete with cliffhangers. It reminded me of a daytime soap in the best way.
