Days is bad really bad. I don't see how it could get worse. Ron Carlivati and Co. are bottom of barrel writers. The sets still look cheap as hell. Way too many Dimeras on canvas. This show really needs an overhaul.

Gosh, at this point, I'll just be happy if they can go out with a bang when they turn 60. Bring on as many characters/actors as possible (even if the character is dead; just make them appear as an angel, etc.), schmaltz it up like they used to do with going down memory lane with flashbacks, photobooks etc.

Until then, it's gonna be crap city. So sad that DAYS will limp and crawl to its death.

To be honest, DAYS has been on the brink of cancellation for 15 years now that I fully expect when the nuclear holocaust comes those that'll be left standing is cockroaches, Cher and Corday somehow plotting the next plan to "Save DAYS".

Don’t have much to say for today

I’m surprised Eli was so dumb today. He immediately suspected something was up with Nurse Whitley after just one conversation, yet didn’t have one question about the evidence regarding Abe. Usually, Rafe is the dumb one

I agree, @Paul Raven.  The sci-fi- and action-adventure-type stories work only when you have the budget for them.  Otherwise, you're reduced to watching Dr. Rolf brainwash someone with a deep fryer and a pair of salad tongs.

When you add the lack of budget to the fact that most of the show's action stars are well into enjoying their AARP benefits, it might be time to scale back.  Instead of watching Marlena on a soap opera within a soap opera we could have seen her treat Talia or heard her counsel Belle about Shawn's drinking and grief.

That being said, I agree with @te.  I honestly have been preparing for Days cancellation for years now and I genuinely don't find it significantly worse than it was 15 years ago.   The budget is laughable, but Days has been bad and silly for years.  Some of Ron's early work was probably the best stuff Days had in 20 years lol.  I don't think RC is very good and I make fun of this show all the time, but I really don't see a sharp decline in quality.  It's been bad quality since 2007 tbh.  That's not a ringing endorsement or anything.  I just don't think anything I saw in 2013 was much better than what I am seeing now.

Yeah, I know this is a terrible analogy, but I told a member here (via PM) that I find new headwriters (who come from a previous soap) similar to a NFL head coach. Like, they have all this zest, rigor, and aspirations with what they hope to accomplish for their team, but then after awhile (if their team still sucks), head coaches don't really care anymore.

    • It makes sense that she got a degree in directing. I've always said she should have been a director. I think she works better at the technical aspects of the show. I think her problem is the emotion/heart of a show.  She always guts the heart of the show she's on and she makes decisions that stop longtime viewers from watching a show. I don't think it's sexism to call that out especially as I've said similar things about Conboy. I've called out Rauch for much worse.
    • "Aunt Blanche" first appears toward the end of this episode, about 57 minutes in.

    • You're probably right. They may have just wanted edits of certain characters. Hopefully the rest is around.
    • Of course!

I'm wondering if there were bits cut from this footage, because to me it seems that may be the case. At 11:23, Laurie tells her psychiatrist that the bar phoned and told her Mark got into a fight and needs to be picked up. It starts to fade to the next scene, you hear some different music begin and get cut off between the static, and where you'd expect to see the aftermath of the fight, we cut back to a later scene of Laurie in bed worrying about what's happening. The credits at the end also show that more than Mark, Laurie and Dr. Northcote should have been in this episode. Another character, Brody, played by Ed Setrakian, is mentioned but not shown. If this is the case, perhaps the original fan who saved this episode has the additional scenes.
    • Anyway… It’s a shame that the video that depicted Leticia’s death was removed from YT.

I've never seen a trainwreck like this in my entire life. 5 pencils and 3 dolls?!!!!!!!!!!! (this little moment starts close to the 7th minute) WOW. THIS IS HAPPENING IN AMERICA?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • Ms. Phelps holds a BFA in directing from Carnegie Mellon University, awarded in 1972. At a time when women were underrepresented in directing programs, she was one of the few women in her graduating class. To suggest that she possessed no further talents than completely changing the style of music used on soaps seems like a vast underestimate when one reads her online biography through an objective lens. I guess that I should be more clever than to constantly blame misogyny for these misguided interpretations of her management style.  But, I'll never comprehend why fans unquestionably align their opinions even years after fact. Post-modernism, and the ability to reinterpret context through the study of history, seems to elude this conversation.

    • This is 100% correct.  It was even on the nightly news where the US Government would not let the cast and crew travel to Egypt because it was deemed not safe.  The Achille Lauro hijacking took place on October 7, 1985, when the Italian ocean liner MS Achille Lauro was hijacked by four men representing the Palestine Liberation Front off the coast of Egypt, as she was sailing from Alexandria to Ashdod, Israel. The location shoot was probably scheduled to be filmed in mid-October to air throughout November with a two week tape to air date.  Remember on the show they did some in studio scenes doubling for Egypt before shifting the action to Arizona.  It was an awkward end to a truly bizarre storyline.
