I believe that is the happiest Spencer has been since he's came back, (and I'm even factoring in his scenes with Trina). He was so happy he literally forgot about his anger for Ava, yet Esme was telling him not to be happy about his Uncle being alive. She is something else, lol.

I hope that Phyllis comes to PC as well. I liked how Sonny said he would have helped her and Lenny out financially if he had remembered who he as soon enough. He really does love them/her. I think she could continue to be a good friend to him and could get through to him when he needs it at times.

A few weeks ago, she referred to Kiki as Lauren (her birth name) which no one but Ava and I think Franco used to do.
That's a huge hint she is connected to Ava and/or the Jeromes in some ways if she knows Kiki as Lauren.
But then again, cynicism alert, considering the pace at which the things they had spent the spring and summer establishing are dropped, who knows if they will go further with that angle.

The setup was there for Sonny to walk in on Carly/Jason in bed and they don’t pull the trigger!!?? The climax of this story was a total disappointment.  I was on board with almost everything from the beginning of this Sonny-is-dead/he’s in Nixon Falls story, and loved how it was going to be a long time before he would return to PC.  It was a classic soap story where there would be a huge anticipation to a big climax.  But instead we got no drama at all.

Carly/Jason don’t work as a couple either because we never saw them fall in love with each other, so there’s no real high stakes when Sonny returned.  This isn’t like Roman/Marlena/John at all because that triangle had real feelings.  Now we’re going to watch Carly and Jason hide their “feelings” they each other?

I too feel like something changed behind the scenes, like this wasn’t the planned ending because this Jason/Carly being in love for real just came out of nowhere.

It's really amazing how they've managed to mess up every story beat with Jason/Carly/Sonny. One thing that bugged me this week was that they finally had Kristina on and voicing opposition to the wedding AFTER Jarly got married. Where the heck was Kristina during this entire engagement? It would've been great to have literally just one person in Port Charles not supporting the wedding and being like, hey, this kind of feels like a betrayal to Sonny. But nope. They only trot Kristina out for one episode for the reunion scenes.

I will say that I liked Sonny having a flashback to Mike kissing Nina. I'm not even into the two of them together, but Sonny still having some of Mike's feelings for Nina is at least soapy. This is a far more interesting beat to play than Jason and Carly trying to deal with their insta-love that developed off-screen and hours before the wedding. That drama feels so forced. We at least saw "Mike" and Nina's connection develop over several months, so it's more believable. Imagine Carly finding out that Sonny was in love with Nina in Nixon Falls and that he can't shake some of his feelings for her even though he has his memory back now. I'd much rather see that than Sonny getting angry that Jarly decided to try for a real marriage hours before the wedding.

I haven't even started Wedding Week fully yet and I'm already dreading it what quick glances I've taken in here.

That said...does anyone know if perhaps the change in tone could be done to when Steve Burton got CoVid so the change in direction in that storyline?

I wish the show would stop trying to make Liz and Finn happen. I'm not seeing any chemistry here, besides maybe sibling chemistry. Why does Liz always have to carry these washed up dudes on her back? She should have a younger man breaking her back instead. I'm only interested in Liz/Finn if it means she ends up spending more time with Chase, who is desperate to put his newfound mobility to good use and stop acting like a monk now that his doctor has given him the all clear.

She didn't get a hot girl summer so at least let her have a "Fill me up Fall." Chase should be dicking someone down on the daily, but instead he's stuck hearing about Finn's almost kiss.

Maxie acting all weird about how she heard about Sonny being alive. Why didn't she just say that Britt told her?

Wes Ramsey is on... why? Wasn't Peter shot? Why wasn't he hurt today???

    • Perhaps. But would anyone have wanted The Doctors to turn into what General Hospital ultimately became?  Dear God in Heaven...
    • Thanks @EricMontreal22 that must be one of the last issues. Probably the best soap magazine.
    • I can definitely see that airing the same week as The Love Boat colliding with an iceberg and sinking while crossing the North Atlantic on the Titanic anniversary with a “Who lives and dies?!” Promo next to Mr Belvedere being blackmailed over his wanted fugitive status back in the UK

Agree with you both. I am also going assume that while Hotel may had some big numbers the first 2 seasons BUT the demographics weren’t great. Reason I say this is I distinctly remember my parents watching St Elsewhere and/or The Equalizer after Dynasty.    I still don’t get Hotel’s designation as a primetime soap opera either lol. ABC should have aired Paper Dolls in the 10/9 slot on Wednesdays in the fall of 1984 to give that show some more legs.    Obviously ABC was eyeing a double bill night in the same vein as Dallas & Falcon Crest and that might have worked better than leaving Paper Dolls to the wolves in an untested timeslot.
    • I tend to stay out of EP discussions, simply because I rarely know who EPs when. And they all have their good and bad sides. But how are we supposed to judge JFP on anything other than what we see? I didn't know she was a director or a music director. (and unlike say, Chris Goutman, I never saw her credited as anything other than an EP) Specifically in the matter of casting Crampton, she took credit for it (or at Crampton gave her credit for it, whatever) and it was arguably, one of the worst recasts of the '90's (and either as bad or worse than the actress she fired).  She lost two important actresses in '92 and still decided to kill Maureen.  She had a wildly uneven tenure at GL. It's no wonder she's polarizing. But it kind of proves a point--great soap is always a that rare combination of everything clicking at the same time.  And believe me, if I could bring myself to watch her male successors who were responsible for bringing back Reva and allowing her to eat the show again, or hiring Hunt Block, or being too chicken to stand up to stans who and hamstrung the show with boring couples stuck in the same repetitive stories (Vanessa/Matt, Chelle/Danny or Richard/Cassie, take your pick) not to mention San CristoHELL....I'd be more than happy to roast them on open spits. I guess we end up talking about JFP because she's in a period we can nominally agree was one of the last "best" periods of the show.
    • A degree does not make one an expert at their job, it just shows that you can follow directions from a technical standpoint.  It doesn't mean that they're creative. JFP was all about the look of a show without considering that technical beauty can only carry a show so far if there is nothing interesting to go along with it.  Equality means calling out flaws equally in both genders.
    • NBC or P&G was even fool enough to take a full page ad for two consecutive weeks in TV Guide promoting this horrible storyline.

    • JFP has had more defense for her decades of terrible producing than many male producers ever had.
    • It makes sense that she got a degree in directing. I've always said she should have been a director. I think she works better at the technical aspects of the show. I think her problem is the emotion/heart of a show.  She always guts the heart of the show she's on and she makes decisions that stop longtime viewers from watching a show. I don't think it's sexism to call that out especially as I've said similar things about Conboy. I've called out Rauch for much worse.
    • "Aunt Blanche" first appears toward the end of this episode, about 57 minutes in.
