Lucky for Summer, she has a formidable resource at her. Phyllis, who is more than happy to take on Sally Spectra."

Even the things I've interested in off that list sound meh. lol.

I hope (for me it's the Faith stuff and what is going on with Devon/Elena) plays better than it sounds.

And I hope Phyllis is thrown into the young'uns storyline as a last resort. Let 2018 Summer come out and play with Bad Sally.

I'm baffled that even in a sweeps month, Y&R is still continuing this same sort of low-stakes, sleepytime storytelling. I do think some of this stuff might work if the characters were a little more likeable, and the actors were warmer. (I could imagine a storyline like "Billy introduces Lily as his new girlfriend, and conflicts ensue" would work just fine on a primetime family drama like Gilmore Girls or This Is Us).

Another viable avenue would be to go back to the show's roots and emphasize how these people are all very rich and very unhappy--and how the two conditions are intimately related. That's what the show did in its early portrayal of Kay Chancellor, lonely alcoholic wife of a millionaire industrialist. But that would require a particular point of view that the show seems reluctant to present.

So instead, they just end up in this uncanny valley where the characters are largely boring and cold and have endless mundane conversations about business and careers. If I hadn't watched back in the 1980s and 1990s, when I formed emotional connections to characters like Jill, Paul, Nina, and Lauren, I'd find it impossible to care about any of these people.

These are about the only two stories that I have any slight of interest for on Y&R at all and I am quite sure the show will find a way to ruin that. The rest of the show is trash.

The surrogacy story is a repeat of that wretched Lily & Mac story back in 2010.

Exactly like B&B it is all recycled month to month. There is absolutely no progress or development at all.

It’s like Josh conveniently ignores history prior to 2008.

Honestly, I think someone just said let’s bring her over to Y&R without much thought to how she would fit in. I would say, if this was Y&R about 10 years, she would be fine. In this current version she doesn’t fit in.  She feels like a better fit on GH

I could somehow get on board the surrogacy story. Infertility is a reality for many of us. But there's no care or attention to any detail here.

What about Chance and Abby going to doctors? Learning what different options are available? Maybe they meet with possible adoption agencies?

And why not build up to Mariah's decision -- discussions about how it'll affect her body, how about how she'll feel about letting the baby go after carrying for nine months?

And when did Abby and Mariah become BFFs? Another insta-friendship.

Spoiler I saw on Twitter surrounding the Abby/Chance/Mariah surrogacy storyline.

It seem like if this was a year ago, Lola would've been the choice to carry the baby. Now Lola is non-existent and might as well leave.

    • I still see Alfonso Ribeiro as Carlton when Martin gets angry.
    • Not that I want to defend Y&R's writers, but it's not as absurd as you'd think and I believe they plucked it from reality (and then bungled it). The Estee Lauder Companies purchased Tom Ford's brand several years ago and I am willing to bet that's how Jabot came to buy Marchetti.
    • Loved the episode today. looking forward to the fallout. Nubian-Sheila looked fantastic, but I wish the writers would cut back on her overuse of figurative language. I loved the "fix yo mind ministries" line though. The background music during her fantasy confrontation with Nicole was epic.
    • Nothing makes sense on this show. I wish there was a garbage can emoji. That sums up 90% of the show right now.

Jane Wyman return episode was head-to-head w/ Cheers season 8 finale. Falcon Crest broadcast syndication began Fall 1986, which overlapped w/ Oprah going national. AFAIK cable broadcasts were Lifetime and Soapnet. I have no memory of cable broadcasts on TBS, TNT, TNN, E!, FX.
    • After today’s rushed and abrupt exit for Summer I immediately realized that Josh & Co. were very blindsided by AL’s decision to leave.  Not the first time this has happened to JG either; see MM & HK’s exits in 2021, MM’s exit in 2022, and of course TSJ’s exit last year. Obviously JG and our executive in charge of nothing Steve Kent don’t have a good handle on casting disruptions. And Mariah having an offscreen affair is [!@#$%^&*] ridiculous!! Meanwhile Tessa’s blonde hair is overkill with the number of blondes on the show already. I said the same thing 3 years ago…of course it was utterly ridiculous everyone was mad at Sally for getting Summer he dream job (don’t ask lol) but there was so much the show could have done without bringing on the Marchetti angle.
    • Does the ball on GL where Philip revealed that he had forced Alan out of Spaulding count or was that not Philip's idea?  There was a ball on AMC where Adam revealed that he had bankrupted Palmer, I think (or was it the other way around?), but I can't remember who threw that.
    • Thanks for honoring Ruth Buzzi. She was a treasure. I'm glad DAYS let her have some fun. I remember Imogene Coca complaining about ATWT just giving her a drab guest part.
    • It's such a delicious set of circumstances that I'm actually a little surprised that I can't think of ones that exactly match. I've just got a couple of close but no cigars (the reveal wasn't public, like when Alexis told Dominique at her and Garrett's engagement party that Garrett lied about being married; or the revealer didn't come up with the idea of the party). Maybe I need to think some more about it.
