I totally agree. Soaps are built on stability and continuity, and having familiar faces on-screen is essential for the audience's ongoing enjoyment and emotional attachment. DD has paid his dues, and as the show's longest-running cast member, there should always be a place for him in Genoa City.

 

Now, if only we could convince Jess Walton to spend more time in LA...!

 

Personally, I want to see more of Jill, Traci, Paul, and even Dina (don't destroy her character and write her off, Y&R!!!), and less of the irrelevant newbies.

 

 

Doug should think about doing a better job of blending in that awful toupee with whatever is left of his real hair.

Nah, they'll probably say he's been away at a fat farm on assignment.

I mean, I'm glad, but I'll be surprised if he's treated like anything but a glorified extra.

Meh. I mean, he didn't deserve to be unceremoniously dumped and written out like he was nothing, but Paul has been a mess of a character for a long time and not written well at all. And Doug was often checked out. But OK. Welcome back Doug.

Agreed with all of this! It's one thing lacking for me on, say, GH. Sure they have the vets pop in once or twice a month, but with endless newbies and soap hoppers it feels empty most of the time ...

 

Y&R could do a little better too.

After 40+ years, he belongs on the show, but I sort of agree with this. Recurring is probably where he long should have been but then I think he deserves a contract for his decades of loyalty. I don't know. I'm kind of torn here. But despite my lack of interest in Paul most of the time (due to Doug's grumpy grandpa half-checked out acting and the piss poor writing ...) I think he should be on the show in some capacity.

So nothing changes  lol. Paul's been a glorified extra for like, quite a loooong time. Sure he's had kids pop up and he's gotten a bit more here and there but he was often a glorified extra

Yeah, he belongs on Y&R.  I'll agree with that.  Paul is an intricate part of the canvas, and of that there can be no doubt.  

 

I also think his behavior over the last few months would have him banished from most lines of work.  It must be great to be an actor. 

Guess that they'll have to turn the interrogation room back into an office for Paul.  If they were going to take him off canvas, at least give the viewers a reasonable explanation.

If Mal Young can come up with story that involves Rey being some hot shot cop, then he could've include Paul in the same way instead of having citizens solving crimes themselves

Paul and Christine’s obsession with Victor annoyed me but I didn’t want him off the show. And certainly didn’t want Rey as his replacement.

Paul was getting kind of fuddy-duddy, but he's still such an integral character. If nothing else, having DD back will give the cast a morale boost.

Yes, and we all know how much they need one right now. I'm sure having him around will be a good thing for a cast and crew who are grieving. 

 

DD's appearance on the Steve Harvey talk show with Vicky Rowell was emotional and informative - both said that a tribute episode is in the works. I hope Doug can be a part of it (VR, too, but I'm trying not to get too hopeful).
