It wasn’t funny. Worst cake catfight in history. If that was real cake, it was the wrong kind of cake, the dialogue was weak, the direction was bad, and both actresses played it as if they’d done it too many times.

The scenes afterward were also awful. Liam smiling about it? Everyone acting as if it was no big deal? UGH.

Nothing says Female Empowerment more than two supposedly intelligent, educated and successful Grandmothers throwing food at each other over a man. Somebody please get Brad (and the other soap scribes) a Netflix subscription so they could binge shows like Reign, The 100, Nikita, etc. to learn that woman can be portrayed as smart, strong, warm and loving.  While Steffy stepping forward on her own is remarkable, we all know it won't last.

We know the soaps won’t be passing any Bechdel tests anytime soon.

That cake fight totally wasted HT and KKL, who had done so fierce, feisty work together just a couple episodes ago. I know they were going for comedy, but it was so poorly staged and timed.

The dialogue was

. B&B has the best and the worst dialogue writers in all of daytime (all four shows lol).

The last couple of episodes were horribly written.  The speeches and dialogue were awful.  And there were way too many moments that made me felt "Why didn't they play this another way."  One of the things I wished happened after the cake fight was that Brooke and Taylor would have a moment after being publicly humiliated where they would maybe see how ridiculous this was, laugh about it, put the past in the past and agree to butt out of their daughter's lives.  Heck, maybe they could have become friends.  Maybe that's asking for too much.  I would enjoy a good story with them as rivals, but It's not like they're going to write them their own story anyway, so why not have two women on the show actually be friends and not bitter enemies fighting over the same man?

As for the pathetic excuse of a food fight, I wonder if the reason they have such crappy "catfights" nowadays is because they can't afford a stunt coordinator or to do anything where there would be a liability issue?  Hell, even Mush Mouth's dance routines seem to be played on the safe side (meaning they are crap) despite the actress actually being a professional dancer.

You posted this just as I was typing my reply.  I totally agree.

Brooke and her daughter are so much alike. They are so needy and need a man to survive. I still can't believe all these females including Taylor are fighting over who gets the sap loser that is Liam as their son in law.....ridiculous! Both mothers should be pushing their daughters away from him. There are a million men in LA better than Liam.

Bradley Bell making Liam this leading man that women are dropping to their feet to worship him is downright laughable.

And the wedding and the cake fight was bland at best.

I actually enjoyed the cakefight more than I have anything in awhile on this show. I laughed harder than I have in a long time probably because I was just happy to not be bored out of my mind after the first couple mindnumbing days of the wedding. HT needs to be brought back fulltime ASAP. Brooke finally had a purpose again recently with her back. And the show has been too weighed down with the Brooke/Hope double team on Steffy so Taylor balances that out. That being said overall it was the worst soap wedding I've seen in a long time. The groom was engaged to his other baby mama just a few weeks ago and has a newborn with her yet everyone including Steffy's grandfather who is no relation to Liam or Hope praised them as the second coming pretty much. I have to believe all this praise of their great wuv means a huge fall is coming mostly for Hope. They keep saying she'd never betray Liam like Steffy did and he can trust her and a couple characters have recently said she's just like her mother so I hope she proves them right and for once does something interesting.

    • My god the smirking was back in full force today. He almost started smiling after Johnny mentioned he wouldn’t be there if EJ hadn’t raped Sami. I will say I did like seeing him with Dee as they’ve always had great chemistry.    They really are giving a lot of false hope with John getting better. I wish they hadn’t done that. Monday is going to be devastating. I really liked all the characters mixing and mingling today.  Nu-Rachel is still too sweet for me. Loved all the flashbacks. Everyone looked so young. Really enjoyed Brady’s scenes with John today.

    • Valerie Mahaffey Dead: ‘Northern Exposure,’ ‘Dead to Me’ Actress Was 71 I just loved Valerie on my early '90s TV shows. This one gets me.
    • I assume they did at some point during the finale...
    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!
