You just know they’d have him all up on Kate. She’s the only person in that age range they consistently write for. As for Val: it’s like when OLTL hired HBS as Hank’s ex. They didn’t hire a big ‘80s soap sensation to be “wasted” on Nathan Purdee. Of course, they were going to pair her with Bob Woods.

I thought the music created and used from 1993-1997 was fantastic. Very sweeping, moody, memorable pieces used. They started sounded rinky-dinky and goofy around 97 and into 1998. It didn't help that the Susan Banks character was saddled with campy circus music in every single scene.

Caught up and watched Thursday's and Friday's eppys....floved Thursday with Will and Paul. Loved the Billie, Will, Kate and Lucas scenes too.

Today's episode was horrible...way too much of Rafe and Hope. I am not a fan of the couple. Whose bright idea was to put Hope with Rafe? And why does it continue? Yawn......

That's the million dollar question, isn't it? I don't get it. I just blame Corday.

Rafe just sucks the life out of Hope. Galen's a problem but I could honestly use a nice long break from Hope and Kristian. Jennifer being backburnered with a slowburn romance with Eric and having scenes with friends and family has really helped me like her again. Hope needs the same. They rushed too quickly into Rope and I hated Bo 'giving' Hope (I like Hope just fine when Rafe isn't attached to her side and she defers to him like his little woman) to Rafe (essentially). It just turned me off to them. The Stefano cover up cemented by hatred.

Rafe and Hope should have been a long slow burn. Instead they forced them together (when they didn't have to force it, IMO). I doubt I'll ever become a fan of them. Many aren't. I often see things posted on Twitter. Rafe seems fairly disliked, not on Daniel levels, but still. So I'm shocked he's lasted so long. I'm not totally anti-Galen or Rafe, I've liked him with others (not Sami). I liked him when he was playing snarky cop and was single (maybe 2011/2012?). That worked. But that sadly didn't last long and we were back to douchebag (now including hypocrite) city.

While I like she's been given a little more to do with the baby story (and I suspect she has a VERY low guarantee), they're still wasting Vanessa A. Williams, IMHO. I don't dislike Abe but I hate they just up and shackled them together right away. It's pretty much vibrant Lexie and stodgy Abe all over again. I like Abe but I've always felt Lexie was stuck (they seemed to really hesitate truly breaking them up, which I don't understand) and now Val is stuck. They swapped one for the other. History use aside, you could cross out Val's name and put Lexie and not a lot would change. You just know if Lexie were still alive (I MISS YOU RENEE JONES!!! AND YOU TOO PETER RECKELL!!!) she'd be thristy as hell for Eli. LOL. She'd be all over that man. I like Lamon and he seems to have a great personality on Twitter, so I wish Eli had a bit more personality. I think being cops limits Eli and Lani and it's why the actors play them so ... hard. It doesn't actually work though. Lani just comes off as awkward and Eli seems to have been given the angry black man cliche. Or at least that's how Lamon plays it.

    • I assume they did at some point during the finale...
    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.

    • And here I thought I'd never think about Lauren Tewes again after her brief appearance in Twin Peaks Season 3.
    • I may be the single person who does not mind Transatlantic Campy Pamela. I think it perfectly suits this sort of Absolutely Fabulous-esque supporting character she's playing much more than it did when Cady tried weird and often broad stuff at AMC* or Y&R, or later stints at ATWT. She's not Dixie and she's not trying to be. I will freely admit some of the other chances she took at other shows often came off stiff, hammy or downright mortifying (Kelly Andrews, come on down). (* - and I say that as one of the few who was somewhat into Cady trying to make Dixie more cosmopolitan in the Rosanna Cabot mold in mid-2000s AMC, just to liven the character up again)
