  1. I was intrigued, looking back at older episodes of GH at Sarah's portrayal of Carly. There was this barely suppressed (and sometimes all out) rage and instability about her Caroline Benson that made her an engaging villain. It seems miles from Laura Wright's new-money diva, loudmouth, Blair Cramer clone. I just couldn't connect the two. Same with Abigail Deveraux, who was very much Jack's over-the-top daughter under Kate Mansi, who's now portrayed as having the "sweet little heroine" vibe of Jennifer under Marci, without the warmth that Missy brings to Jen. Also with Billie in DAYS. Julie Pinson's Billie didn't seem to match the desperation showed by Krista's or Lisa's Billie towards holding on to Bo. What happened to the passion? What other recasts completely changed the core of a character? Is it more the recast or the character growing up? As a contrast Elaine Princi's Dorian didn't seem all that different than Robin's interpretation.

I was cheering Julie on. Gabi and her boring family have overstayed their welcome. Furthermore, Jenn slayed hard going after Sami. Eric was only protecting his sister, but he was clearly in the wrong.

What kind of victim blaming bs is this? That's like telling a sexual assault victim to "stop dressing provocative" or "stop being slutty".

Never thought I'd see "Kim Zimmer" and "little dinner" in the same sentence.
  5. ALL: Recasts you mentally treat as separate characters.

Gina's Kelly was always really neurotic, and always found herself in situations she got herself in, but there's a sense of innocence about her at times. I always thought Heather deliberately got messy for the sake of being messy and I didn't appreciate that. Gina's Kelly would have happened upon a baby and passed it off as Kevin's out of convenience, not go out of her way to deceive.

So, I actually ship Tripp and Ciara. More chemistry than that singing chemistry vortex Claire.

They need to cut down on frivolous stunt casting (Stefan, Carrie, etc.) and invest in outdoor location shooting. It's a shame Salem Place is no longer around. Seeing the HTS, The Blue Room™, and that ugly garden every damn day is giving me a headache. Also, I suggest block storytelling which would allow episode limits and guarantees to be respected while at the same time allow for longer story continuity day-by-day. RC also needs to go for broke and do what he does best: camp. Bring back Bonnie, turn JJ back into an insane addict, have Paige come back as a zombie, whatever. He needs to go look back at Reilly's 90's work for inspiration and go all-out. Have a twist everyday (Hollyoaks-style) by not revealing spoilers weeks and months ahead. No one wants to see episodes-long conversations about the same topic (Chabby/anything involving Kate at this point/Lani). This is a show that had a spaceship land in a backyard. Seriously, what happened to taking risks?

I dunno why RC being a mess with boring stories is any surprise to anyone. Has anyone remembered the lull in late '08 between the time Nash died and when Marty was revealed to be living in Victor's house? It was full of constant Tess anger against Jared/Natalie, 1968 bullcrap, Marty falling in love with Victor, and that God-awful story about Langston and her uncle...nothing really moved for months.

Carrie is frankly, redundant at this point. Christie C. is always good for a visit, but full-time? Nah. Anna is a joke at this juncture, and Roman is a glorified extra. Besides, with Sami/Belle gone, there's no reason she should be around permanently.

Valerie is the worst. She looks through Lani's medical records and lectures her even if she hid a secret from Eli/David/Julie for years. Where does she get off?
  11. DAYS: January 2018 Discussion Thread

It's obviously Kate, right? I can't see anyone that invested in Andre that would even be driven to temporary fatal violence. The writers aren't that creative. They beat us over the head with Kate defending Andre to anyone who would listen. No one else would really make sense.
  12. DAYS: January 2018 Discussion Thread

It takes two to tango, and with Stefan and Marci's Abigail? It's only 0.75.
  13. DAYS: January 2018 Discussion Thread

I actually pity Lani. She didn't know whether JJ/Gabi were sleeping together and she made one mistake. What I don't like was JJ bullying her out of an abortion as a way to absolve his guilt for the Theo thing. Why must a woman's reproductive choices be influenced by a man? This is why soaps are on life support. Seriously? Lani is a cop and looked stable in her career. She didn't need a reminder of a mistake which ultimately could be pointed back to JJ's poor choices.
  14. DAYS: January 2018 Discussion Thread

That scene where JJ took Lani to see the Horton plaque...Well, JJ's not exactly wrong: The new baby will be a Horton. Good times. Also, those Jennifer/Eric scenes with the Doctor were hella cringe. Seriously, grown adults nearing their 50's acting like Junior High students.
  15. I would have appreciated the likes of DAYS not giving away that Ben was gonna show up at the wedding/Will actually was alive/Theo being shot/and now . It comes across as cheapening the experience for the viewer if they know what's coming miles ahead. Same with GH trumpeting from the rooftops that Steve Burton was coming back.
  16. Days Promo Week of January 15, 2018

I've seen more hate thrown towards Joey's baby mama Jade.
  17. DAYS: January 2018 Discussion Thread

What the hell are they going for with these Stef Jr./Abigail scenes? It just came across as a man flirting with a brick wall. Furthermore, I know there had been budget cuts, but I swore I saw Missy Reeves wear the same outfit on Abigail a while back in some episode.
  18. DAYS: January 2018 Discussion Thread

Agreed on Anjelica's son coming back. They missed a great opportunity last year to have an Alexander v. Adrienne story. I'm gonna do a hard pass on Tyler being Nicky. He's not even a decade younger than CC (Carly). Any re-cast of Nicky has to be within the age range of Gabi/JJ.
  19. I admit not every case is as extreme as B&B, where practically every one has slept with someone "related-adjacent", but I saw the DAYS double wedding, with Claire being related to 3 out of the 4 people getting married. It comes across as frankly ridiculous. The soaps in England, while maintaining large casts, tend to avoid everyone being related to each other in some way. I don't think it's an accident that their ratings are much more robust . I think that's about the only thing GH excels in keeping relations not as tightly wounds as in the other 3 of the American soaps left.
  20. ALL--Large Families, helping or hurting soaps?

The best thing Gottlieb ever did was ignore the "core family" bullcrap and introduced the Carpenters, Nora, Luna, Marty, practically all in one go. Practically brought the show out of the dumps.
  21. DAYS: December 2017 Discussion Thread

The scenes with Jack were spectacular, for sure, but what pissed me off royally was the fact that they even had to retro-actively create these wonderful scenes in the first place. It just shows the failures of Tomsell/Griffith/Higley in their handling of JJ and his family over the years that they never really showed the heart that JJ had, his insecurities, and explanation for the sudden rebound of his relationship with Abigail and Jennifer after his druggie start. JJ is a damn Horton for goodness sake. He/Jennifer/Abby are the heart of the show, tbh. Props to Casey Moss/Missy Reeves/Ashford for reals.
  22. ALL--Large Families, helping or hurting soaps?

I just don't like the primacy of "last name" advantage, which severely limits pairing potentials and relationships. If it weren't for people like Maggie, Nicole, or Marlena (DAYS) or Nora, Max, or Marty (OLTL) or Zach/Greenlee (AMC), their respective shows would have been claustrophobic to no end. Not everyone has to be a Brady or a Kiriakis or a Spencer or a Newman or a Quartermaine or a Forrester. It's boring when everyone is related and knows each other.
