Not enjoying the direction of Hilary right now.

Gina is a good actress, but Phyllis lost her ways years ago. By the end of MS run, Phyllis was insufferable.

Amelia Heinle isn't that bad, she's unfortunately gotten some very poor writing since her introduction. She gets hated on way too much when the writers have done her no favours.

She's a lazy lethargic actress. I totally agree that the writing for Victoria has sucked, up until she became an ice queen again but now she's bonking JT. But a better actor can turn [!@#$%^&*] into gold. Heather Tom would have owned the hell out of the garbage they gave Victoria. Although at this point she seems to be overacting at B&B so .... Heinle's not *bad* per say, but she's not Victoria and all these years later I still picture how Heather would play it. As I said, Heinle looks like she's sleepwalking through her scenes and looks bored out of her mind (who could blame her most of the time?) so I hold her responsible too.

Absolutely agree. She is so lethargic, and it is noticeable every day. She should be at a 7 or 8 on a This Is Spinal Tap volume knob, but she's barely at a 2. What a difference from her time on Loving! I loved her then. She is clearly just showing up for her cheque at this point. It boggles the mind how much TPTB feel Victoria is a 'popular' character.

I'm not upset by the writing for Hilary. It's better than what she's been doing for the past 2 years. And it's her own story instead of playing villain to the shows more golden ladies. Nothing at all wrong with hilary having a baby to provide a softer side to her character while maintaining her edge and ambition. If she was white, she'd have had a Newman anchor baby 4 years ago, i.e.  within the first year of being on the show.

If there was an issue, TL wouldn't have returned. It's not like he's out of work or that JT was desperately needed on canvas. For all we know, the split was amicable. If it is a bitter situation and they were 'forced' to work together, then I take back 'most' of what I've said about AH's acting skills.

I like that this week they're finally getting Noah involved in the Mariah/Tessa story. I'm not the biggest Noah fan but he was very much needed in this story, starting with Sharon's feelings towards Tessa.

Very much enjoyed the Lily and Hillary scenes. I actually wouldn't mind the show moving them closer to regularly cordial. I would never make them friends though.

Enjoyed the Abbott story. Was not expecting that last moment with Ashley at all but I guess it was to be expected. Still Team Jack on this though.

The dialogue is spades better. More organic, more fluid, and more surprising.

I will agree with you guys that Amelia Heinle is low energy. I do also think she needs to take a backseat.

The Noah/Victoria, Noah/Mariah and Hillary/Lily scenes were great. I actually really like Noah, and I think the actor is decent. I don't need another typical soap hunk, I think he's cute enough. But I'd also take Thad Luckinbell over some of the other studs out there too.

Poor Ashley, but ED totally sold it all today. She should have punched out Phyllis today.

One thing this regime has done well is keeping Gloria in very small comedic doses. Judith Chapman is more tolerable this way.

    • Valerie Mahaffey Dead: ‘Northern Exposure,’ ‘Dead to Me’ Actress Was 71 I just loved Valerie on my early '90s TV shows. This one gets me.
    • I assume they did at some point during the finale...
    • Kelly was a horribly-written character overall. Just think, two Emmy-winning actresses (including Cynthia Watros, Nina, GH, and Annie, GL) couldn't make it work. Pamela is campy, but so are Dani, Vanessa, Leslie, and Joey. And, I don't want to be too judgy because my love for camp changes depending on the show. OLTL, DAYS, and some eras of GH had me rolling with the camp. However, Passions was overkill and I hated it. And, here, I can take it or leave it. It's ok in small doses (note to RC). I see this show as more of a serious drama.
    • I think one of the reasons that pilot didn't get picked up was because Vicki L was associated more with being Thelma Harper and playing older then she was playing her own age.  It was a blessing it didn't get picked up, or we would have been deprived of the syndicated era of Mama's Family.   Also, worth noting a Pre Night Court Marsha Warfield and pre Perfect Strangers Rebecca Arthur in the cast.  All talented women, but stuck with a bad script. And the other pilot had a pre Fran Fine.. Fran Drescher as the best friend.  I think that pilot might have been picked up if Karen Valentine and Fran Drescher switched roles.
    • So, on rewatch....did Rick and Mindy never have sex?
    • Cady had a fairly posh accent or manner as Rosanna - the character was a 180 from Dixie when she went to ATWT, and it was a huge success initially. As someone mostly only familiar with the nagging, miserable or clueless Dixie of the mid-late '90s and early 2000s it was what convinced me Cady could act. I thought she was incredible in her first run. Later, in future stints, her hair and story and performances were all over the place but a lot of that was down to the show for me. She brought some of Rosanna back with her to Dixie in her ill-fated return and a lot of people didn't like it, which I understood but I did think the character needed some change. I think she's had a little bit of the same persona and arch performance in every role she's played since, including Jennifer Horton at DAYS or Kelly at Y&R, who later became a maniac and was easily the worst work I've ever seen Cady do. It has kind of infected her overall mannerisms, I'll allow that, but I do think she brought Dixie back together as herself while still evolving the character when she returned to AMC again in 2012-13. Nonetheless, for me the upshot is that this is a character where Cady's kookier recent performance style suits the role. But I can understand it grating for people.
    • Yeah, Loretta Swit's passing stings. My late dad LOVED the show (he died last November) and watched it religiously. In first run and repeats.  And I was literally born the day after the show's premiere, so I grew up with it! I know many loved later, softer Margaret, but I loved Early Hot Lips. In real life, I'm all for less misogyny, but to me, the early years of M*A*S*H were just funnier. May Loretta Swit rest in peace. Thanks for all the memories connected to my dad!

    • I agree that she isn't Dixie or Rosanna and shouldn't be acting like either. I just found it strange that she had a naive Southern character and a wealthy urbane character in the past and didn't experiment with accents before (unless I missed it, correct me if I'm wrong). She used to do improv characters on YouTube. She's probably doing something similar here.
