Honestly i thought Mal and Chuck Pratt worked much better together in their last few months then Sally did at all with him. They had 13 weeks of record lows in ratings. Sorry guys but CBS is a business and Sally/Kay YR didnt translate in todays world. It was severely dull. Sally worst move acting like Philly didnt exist and pimping an insta reunion of Victoria/Billy. Not to mention for months on end the show lacked any drama. They criminally wasted Gina Tognoni.

This show is so [!@#$%^&*] ridiculous!  But Zzzzzzally needed to go!  She was a complete bore who believes a Friday cliffhanger would be Maddie finding out Reed is a Rocker and not a folk singer!

Angie McD may need to go as well and I don't believe Mal Young is the person to helm this show.

All this "retiring" is hilarious.  Can Frank V be next, please?!

Actually Jamey said Mal pitched CBS a great long term stories for YR that CBS loved. Angelica loves Mal and cast and crew. Lets be honest Kay/Sally were both fired this they wanted to retire is crap. Jean P retired had a long annoucement two months ago with tons of well wishes. Jean freaking retired these ladies were fired.

Frank is not retiring hes only 54. ABC loves him.

I have barely watched in the last couple of months because there are no stories on this "story".  Hillary pulls a stunt.  Gloria bugs her eyes out.  Nikki stumbles around.  I saw a couple of days where Snore-toria is stumbling around.  Victor pretends to be a victim.  Billy is....Billy.  Phyllis has nothing to do.  Deana returns and has a boy toy.  Devon continues to be Devon and bores us all to death.  Mariah could be interesting but falls victim to Hillary repeatedly.  Jill returns and wants Billy with Victoria.  Then Jill disappears again.  Jack plays bitter-betty and I'm not sure why.  Cane cheated I guess.  Their kids aged overnight.  Tess sings and lives with Nikki.  Noah wanders.  Chloe is aided by Victor, escapes her deeds repeatedly.  Kevin left (finally).

That's about it from what I've seen.  Thank god for The Chew and Who wants to be a Millionaire, and a day-old The Real.  I say roll the dice and try something because when you're at all-time lows every other week you can't expect to last.  I think he's done a good job as Executive Producer - the show looks great, but you do have to notice the uptick in scenes and happenings at the Athletic Club.  That's what happens when the budget belt tightens - like happened on Guiding Light where everyone suddenly lived at The Beacon and they started limiting whose houses they showed.  Hasn't gotten there yet with Y&R but it's starting.

Its been said that Mal has written many UK shows. This is not his first rodeo at writing soaps. It was clear Sally/Kay were stuck in YR time warp people didnt want to see. When Sally was passed up in 2014 by JFP it turns out Jill was right. The show had zero drama or stories. U had Victoria/Billy pimping, Ravi/Ashley, Gina Tognoni wasted, Gloria annoying return, the stupid Julie Chen LA shoot but no real stories. Pratt was so nutso but i will admit i watched for the action. Coupled with terrible ratings. CBS made right choice. Only one lady retired and that was Jean Passanante she finished her contract out. These ladies are already gone anf were axed a little before the contracts expired.

I don't think anything these actors say publicly means anything at all.  They are almost always going to be complimentary because they want to keep their job and get screen time. When someone says something even a little negative I figure they either know they can't be fired (EB) or they no longer GAF.

The problem I will have with mal young goes back to his appearance on rhobh...where he was telling Erika about archetypes.  he seemed pretty adamant that characters belonged to them...and maybe that works on UK soaps...but US soaps in their heyday had multi dimensional characters beyond the bad girl, good girl archetype.

Hilary should be more then the bad girl archetype...and poor Mariah had been reduced to the ingenure archetype..when her character wad anything but.

    • Christie said in her interview this week that she recently started taking acting classes again, and has been doing some work in England, so that helped her to jump into Carrie for this (as well as it being all so familiar, it really was home.)
    • Andrea Barber aka Kimmy Gibbler did have a few scenes with Drake too, when he first came on. Christie came in the middle of that storyline
    • Carrie, as played by Andrea Barber, was at Bo & Hope's wedding. She was the flower girl. The ringbearer was Zachary Parker, the little boy that Megan tried to pass off as her and Bo's son. Andrea's Carrie was at Tony & Anna's real wedding (Aug. 5, 1985). She appeared for the last time on March 21, 1986. Christie's Carrie debuted on April 14, 1986. It appears that Carrie remained in Salem, just off-screen, during that near-month. Christie picked up with what Andrea had been playing, apprehension over John.
    • I don't think she is. I think she just created some really boring characters and for some reason doesn't know what to do with them.  But let's say that she is being force to write these characters that she doesn't like or want to write for.......that's a really bad sign that the creator of the show is being told what to do from the very beginning.  With so many EPs, I was worried there could be too many cooks in the kitchen, too many people giving notes - all those EPs are representing companies who have a stake in the show.    Canada continues to be one episode ahead. Thursday's US episode is another lacklustre episode, even with Leslie in it.  We'll see if Friday or Monday's episode in Canada will be a repeat.
    • Like a lot of soaps, once relatives left, they kinda dropped off the face of the earth and out of conversations. I don't know why writers do that. If they just don't want to confuse viewers, or don't think it matters, or want the liberty kind of revise history to make their stories work. After Josh left in '84, he's barely mentioned. Even when Billy's railing against Kyle and refusing to accept him, it'd be the most natural thing in the world to say "Kyle's NOT by brother, JOSH is!" and I don't think he ever really says that.  The only writer I can recall who didn't do that is Doug Marland on ATWT.
    • IIRC, there is a line during this time period where Reva says something like Marah is her first-born child, which fans were not thrilled with.  Dylan makes a few appearances through the rest of the show (and a much later recast that isn't really worth talking about, with a face that is familiar to you). He will make one briefly during 1997, if you get that far.
    • Another great episode.  GH has been pretty good this year, loading up the chamber, because now there's many bullets to fire, and another one was fired today when Nina found out Michael is the father of Sasha's baby.  I hope this secret comes out at the hearing.  I've also liked the slow burn with Gio/Emma. There's just so many things to look forward to on this show now.  GH is finally back to being really good.
    • I'm all for it. Get them Nina!

    • I am blown away that Christie Clark is 51, and she debuted 39 years ago. They gave her a lovely script today.  But, I could not think of any other examples in culture of someone able to jump right back into the skin of a character, after virtually retiring from acting years ago. I was trying to recall if Carrie left for a bit with Anna after Roman died (because she wasn't at Bo & Hope's wedding), and then returned as a pre-teen Christie?  Or if she was just SORASed off-screen?  But, whenever I see the character I am reminded how much more trauma she's endured than Sami, and yet she remains such a nice person.
    • Weirdly I feel like Nina was the most sus about the entire situation.  Normally I would have given this one to Carly, but Nina was always kind of trying to make it make sense. I think Nina (and Alexis) are actually really smart characters.  They just constantly get in their own way with dumb plans lol.
