It's just like The Hogan Family. It wasn't the same without Valarie Harper in it. The cast was going to get paid for the season anyways but at least the crew has a job too. The only thing I noticed is that they cut the episode count to just 10.

I think it was cut down to 10 because it is essence a new show.. so they're testing the waters to see if there is any interest.  Compared to what the majority of the ABC sitcoms are getting ratings wise (some barely above 5 mil), this show would have to get 3 million or less to be cancelled.

Well, they could say she ran off with David Duke.

We're taking up enough bandwidth, lol.  I say just change the name.

Same.

Just the same, I'd LOVE it if they were to cast Edie McClurg as the family's annoying, new neighbor.

I'm still not going anywhere near this show. ABC wanted to cater to Trumpers so I consider this fruit of the poisonous tree. But, honestly, even without all this controversy, I just don't do these reboots. I think the last reboot I watched was Gilmore Girls and that was disappointing. I'm just not here for bringing back shows that had long healthy runs and in some cases, including Roseanne, went on at least a season or two too long. Better to look at shows that only had one or two seasons but managed to attract a decent fanbase but may simply not have been at the right moment. Better yet look at some of the shows that were doing well in 2007 but fell prey to the Writers Strike. There were a couple of shows I was loving then but the strike happened before they could hit their stride.

I won't either.  However, I remain happy that the rest of the cast -- and more importantly, the crew -- will remain employed for awhile; and that, best of all, Roseanne herself is off mah damn TV screen (for now).

I think it's a great move, and it's good for the cast and crew. Listen, we may only get one season out of this and that's fine. It fulfills what the cast and especially the crew were counting on. The crew would've been without work this year, as new shows' crews were already set up & ready to go.

I like the name change to "The Conners" to focus on its ensemble cast, and I think it's wonderful that *everyone* is back on board, even Laurie Metcalf, who's getting roles left and right and winning awards and accolades along the way.  If "The Conners" is awful, I can just pretend this past May's finale was the family's last hurrah in my mind. We all do it, right? I certainly don't 'count' the Melrose Place 2009 revival as a true continuation of the original's story.

Side note: I would hope the "Roseanne" actors would submit themselves for Emmy consideration. Whether ABC promotes it or not, people like Sara Gilbert have a great shot at a nomination, as she did stellar work.

And finally, @Soapsuds I maintain my position that I thought "The Hogan Family" was *better* than "Valerie"!

That show is another example of 80's/90's shows where the series got better once the kids got older by the 3rd or 4th season.

P.S. I wouldn't mind a Roseanne / The Conners thread continuing on right here.

    • Definitely was more recent than not; when the set originally returned, the change hadn't happened.
    • It was nice seeing Victorias house and I see it’s been remodelled. I’m sure this happened awhile ago but since I tuned out from the show for so long I am only noticing it now. Looks beautiful though!  Also, Billy and Sally gross me out so much. I don’t know what it is I hate so much about them. They give me the ick. Definitely a mismatch. I don’t buy that these people would be attracted to eachother in real life much less have a relationship..

    • Also, isn’t there supposed to be a storyline with Mariah and Tessa? Mariah cheating or something (keeping some kind of secret) and they were only on screen 2 and 3 times this month. Like what? How am I supposed to care when I barely see them?
    • Definitely wouldn't trust Dinah right now haha.  But that's great to know Billy comes back soon!  I'm excited for that. If he's at the boardinghouse, then I guess he does get closer to Nola perhaps, and then he'll be around Peter/Bridget and J, who is currently in his orbit along with Michelle and Dahlia, and Marcus is at the boardinghouse, so maybe they go the teenage story route most of this time until Billy gets back.
    • Sounds like me, but I prefer to be referred to as Contessa. We all know I can go a long time not paying attention to certain things.  And, if I might add, hey there dude, you effed up pretty good this time and I think this was your last chance. So don't let the door hit you in your behind as you go BYE MOMMY!
    • That did cross my mind at first, but I'd be more inclined to believe it if this didn't involve Trump. I'm not at all sure he is capable of being that sneaky. Of course, there's always a possibility I guess that his advisors are doing it without telling him, but that seems awfully risky. Trump is such a loose cannon you can never predict what he's going to do or say.
    • Whoa. She should have fought like hell to get that. Was it the greatest show ever? No, but it had a fantastic cast and was practically guaranteed to last multiple seasons because of its star power. Could have certainly led to bigger and better things. If it had flopped she could have always gone back to soaps. Judith Light broke through on a sitcom where she was basically second banana to Tony Danza. That grew into a very busy and distinguished career. The woman is still regularly booked to this day.
    • I could understand her being frustrated by the fact that she'd been in the business 10+ years at that point, and probably couldn't even get in the door. But then again, she'd already gone out for pilot season once (that we know of) and she and  her agent knew a 35-ish woman had a very difficult time in Hollywood. I know she did a few guest spots, but other than Designing Women, nothing I saw--not even a Murder She Wrote, and that show had tons of ex-soapers on it. I mean, God bless Marilu Henner, but even having been on Taxi, she couldn't get arrested for years either.
    • I didn't rewatch that period, so I'm not really sure how much Bill is on. I recall something about him living at the boardinghouse. I think Van made Matt his guardian, and why she didn't name Josh would be a mystery to me, other than the HW decided they needed to keep Bill in Matt's sphere. Nola is also his aunt, although they don't know each other well, and Van wouldn't have trusted her anyway. There's Dinah---but she's unreliable. Billy gets out of jail around NYE.
