+1 on Lecy's Becky. All true. I love her. You summed it up well.

I don't think she'll be a gag (Sarah's Becky became the joke, when Lecy returned in Season 8 they had Becky unhappy living in a trailer and that she married too young and wanted more for her life, it was stark and obvious, but not that Lecy's Becky had a ton to do beyond that though, but the writing improved). She had some fun lines and was more prominent in the first two episodes than I expected. It was still Darlene/Roseanne centered but Becky had some good stuff. I hope it keeps up.

I agree - I think they tried to rebuild Becky a bit when Lecy came back in S8, but the whole season was so hit and miss and then she was gone again. By then they were way too wedded to Darlene being the true heir to the show and Becky the fùck-up, and that stuck. While I understand and agree with shifting the focus to Darlene as a mother and the next generation, I hope it won't be quite so cut and dried here with the two sisters.

Yeah, the Darlene/Becky dynamic is interesting. Unlike Roseanne/Jackie, the two of them were never close or had as tight of a bond, so they don't have the same dependency/attachment issues their mother and aunt have. It's so easy for a character like Becky to get lost in the shuffle.

I'll always remember when Roseanne and Dan were jobless and when Dan lost the bike shop, and all Becky could think about was Mark's employment and her own happiness. She was such a selfish piece of sh!t.

Usually when Darlene argued with Dan and Roseanne, she mostly had a point and was often right, that was rarely the case with Becky.

Those scenes were so tough to watch, but very real. The thing is I never felt they were done to vilify Becky - I just felt they showed her as a fundamentally different person. It was with the recast that Becky became utterly two-dimensional.

I thought that was a typo at first. That's insane.

I guess it shows why networks keep going back to reboots, and also just how important the show was to many many people.

I didn't watch, but I'm happy for the cast and crew and I hope it works out for them.

Yes it is. ABC must be over the moon and I am sure they will get a second season pickup as of today....LOL

Ha...me do typos...nah

Not even Will and Grace did that well. I already forgot their premiere numbers. I think it did well because Roseanne still fits in today's world. I am not sure how many reboots would fit in today's world.

I'm just annoyed the social media reaction is already so tribalized - the alt right is trying to adopt it while it's not an alt right show tonally in any way, certainly not with Sara Gilbert and co. running it, while a lot of the online left is signaling how it can't be allowed. The actual reviews (from progressive critics) and quality of the show are being largely ignored in the noise atm. Hopefully that'll die down.

I hope people read the Todd VanDerWerff review I put up a page or two ago.

Between this and the respectable ratings of the AI reboot, Channing Dungey has likely bought herself a couple more years atop ABC. EDIT: Forgot to mention The Good Doctor.

Yeah, people on social media are definitely trying to co-opt the show for shallow political purposes that are at odds with what’s on screen. I have seen a few conservatives claim that it’s portraying liberal caricatures of conservatives.

    • Would anyone have any of these Y&R episodes they could add to the vault? It would be very much appreciated. • When I was a kid, I would watch DOOL with my mom. I remember Denise as Susan so well. And later, of course, on GH. How sad to hear she has passed. RIP.
    • I have to dig that scene up on YT. I'm glad they gave them some kind of happy ending, even if it was really late. Interesting! I remember Justin and Sarah being involved, but I either forgot or never caught their backstory. The girl with money and social position of course turns out to be Jackie. He sort of did to Sarah what Vanessa did to his brother! I do remember Justin started out as not the greatest guy. Kind of a horn dog. It's only when Ross comes on that he becomes the "good" brother. I only have some vague memories of Ben and Hope, mostly of when they were in a positive relationship. He certainly changed over time. "Chill" would be the way I would describe Ben (along with "handsome but kind of a yawn") for most of his time on GL, so hearing he once had a violent temper is very surprising.
    • Yes. That's called good writing.
    • interesting idea.  That makes sense, as MVJ seems to have set up each character development (traits) for future plot developments.
    • I really enjoyed today's episode. It showcased a lot of the other cast and I saw hints of storyline potential (Smitty & Bill). Martin definitely has some anger issues and I recall him being overly scared about protecting his family and having all the doors locked, coming out of one of his "dreams". There's obviously a lot going on there and I can't wait to find out more. I'm thinking June is going to be more than just the issue story of the week. I think she just might be related to one or more of our main characters. As for Tomas, yes, Alex Alegria is not the strongest actor, but he's pretty to look at and he emotes something. I'm just not sure what that something is yet.
    • No. Absolutely No. I don't know who this is... since it's just some random Twitter quote... But NO. The only parallel between OG Caroline's leukemia and Liam's tumor... is that they are both having cancer. That's it. Other than that... I see absolutely no similarities.  Caroline hid her sickness almost till the last moment. She was also giving the viewers signs that she is not well for days if not weeks before the diagnosis. It was not like Liam... falling down and hitting his head on a table and bam he has a tumor. Caroline's storyline broke our hearts, because of her attempt to live out the rest of her days with dignity and grace. It was written slowly and with care. What we are seeing right now with Liam is the complete opposite. It's begging the viewers for empathy and cheap tears. It's so in your face and trashy... I can't believe they are using cancer for something like this. Bradley Bell should never do terminal stuff again in his stories. It's borderline offensive to people who actually have lost relatives to cancer. To me it is.
    • I was thinking that June could be Kat's mother and Eva is Nicole and Ted's.
    • You won't even miss her because Nola will be dominating the show till Raven comes back. Literally... there will be no boring second. Nola is just starting. You won't believe what will follow. Haha. And then as soon as that storyline is finishing up, Raven is back in top form.
