the speculation here has been that Caroline, Ridge, Brooke or Maya could get shot but I hope thats not the case and that its Aly that ends up a victim. She and Oliver desperately need a storyline. It would be an unexpected twist and it could bring Thorne back into the fray and have him ally with Ridge against their out of control younger brother. Rick cant pull that you arent Eric's real son crap with Thorne and having them feud would be something different

More Thorne is ALWAYS a good thing! It sort of looks like there are a lot of good possibilities. I just hope they keep writing it well. I don't like feeling that the show could return to one of its bad phases already.

Brad Bell said he'd be doing something with Brooke that's never been done before, maybe she gets paralyzed lol

I didn't know he said that! That's exciting. I wouldn't mind if she got paralyzed; I want to see KKL get the chance to play something very different.

Besides, she could always have wheelchair sex!!

I can see why you would resent the characterization, but let's not forget that she presented Brooke with a gun as a gift once. Brooke was supposed to shoot Stephanie with it. It's just part of the late 2000s Bully Stephanie we've gotten used to.

Remember in the late 80s/early 90s someone used to get shot on this damn show every year?! Then that poor Lieutenant Baker would have to haul a** down to the Forrester mansion to see who got capped this time. He must have wondered what in the city of Angels was wrong with these folks.

I'd say someone is about due, it might as well be Brooke. Or will it be Maya or Caroline?

YAY for Lawrence Saint-Victor. Wrote a fun, professional script you wouldn't be able to tell was his first. And he should give HIMSELF a Writing Emmy for those shirtless scenes! But also self-flagellate for giving Othello more stuff to do (I know it's not his fault, but still...).

I'm liking Ridge and Caroline together so far, and I'm glad to see they're supposed to be taking it slow. So they'll be married two Wednesdays from now.

I KNOW that little thot Nicole Avant didn't sarcastically & bitchily tell two women she hasn't even been introduced to yet that she "doesn't need an appointment" to see her sister. BITCH, DO THEY KNOW YOU? Keep that snarkiness for, like, two episodes from now.

DAMN at Maya walking into Ridge and Rick's argument and telling Ridge to leave if he doesn't like it. The way Ridge left it with Carter, it sounds like Ridge will be doing SOMETHING... Yay!

And it seems we're slowly coming out of the one-storyline-per-episode-for-a-month sh!t

Enjoyed the Liam/Katie/Bill and Katie/Caroline scenes today. Glad the show had something other than all Rick/Maya.

Pam bringing Steph's picture into the office was a riot!

Oh, how I wish we'd gotten to see Ross deal with his teenage sons. I loved his relationships with Phillip and Sam, but he really deserved to be seen with his own kids (other than the horror that became Dinah). The boys simply disappeared off canvas after either the Nursery Stalker or the affair with Tori.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread

What I liked about Bloss is that I liked how they grew to be the stable couple- the closest to an Ed and Mo in their prime. Especially after the Tori story when their extra-marital exploits were in the past. I wanted them to SORAS the three kids, along with Dinah and with Phillip's family as Ross's extended family would really be solid core family material.
With that said, I was rooting against Bloss in 1999 as I really liked the Ross/India pairing-- but that just turned out to be a waste of MKA.

They did actually resolve who shot Austin over a year later (it was Cyrus, as part of his hasty exit story). That was a last minute save though clearly when they forgot lol.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's

The return of sitcoms' popularity in the mid-'80s was a real thing, but the crash of the wealth-based nighttime soap genre was resonate and self-induced.

There was an effectively grim finality to the mood of the cliffhangers in the Spring of 1985: Bobby's death, the Moldavian massacre, the return of Val's babies... and they felt as if they could have ended right there (and perhaps they should have, although I would have sorely missed S10 of Dallas, S6 of FC, and Season 9 of Dynasty , and the next five years of KNOTS as they singularly maintained quality).

But, wow, these shows just fell apart post-Spring 1985. They stopped being character dramas after a while, and just started trying to "impress" viewers in some superficial way and to "fake it" somehow.

What a painful, unnecessary slide it was. But once these shows seemed to lose their identities, their sense of self, their momentum into the dung heap couldn't be slowed.

It is very strange. They have insisted on having 30+ contract players for years now. If they had less cast, they could up everyone's episode guarantees, balance the cast out more. Like 20-25 would be perfect. Have everyone else recur.
If you look back at the history of the show, especially in the 1970s and in the 2010s, whenever the show was at it's most successful, it had smaller casts. Audience relate to the characters more, because they see more of them. In 2009 and 2013, the show had arguable it's most successful periods since the early 2000s (ratings wise that is). They had smaller casts and focused on 3 or 4 stories the whole year. That's what they should be doing at this point. Have a few umbrella stories, that last the whole year, and involve the whole cast. But again, before that, fix who we see on screen cause.....😬
