Members Khan
Ideally, I would want Y&R just to drop the whole matter, you know? Just do for this entire story what they did for years about Brad Carlton's secret past and Phyllis running down Christine and Paul (among other things) until some yahoo decided it just had to be rehashed. (Although, in this particular case, I would hope that never happens, lol.) But, you know, I'm down with your scenario as well, ajsp.
Members rhinohide
I don't get that Devon is going to lose to Neil. There's no story there. Jmo.
Members edgeofnik
Racism exists in ALL of Hollywood, prime time, film, daytime, you name it. It's the ultimate liberal hypocrisy. Primetime is especially awful - take a look at Shemar Moore. How many black co-stars has the CM team had in its nine seasons? Exactly. I don't watch the show, but I see the promos, etc. Revenge? OUAT? Law & Order SVU? on and on. I rarely see diversity on these shows. It's pathetic, really. There are so many wonderful talent AA/Latino actors out there and several roles - like on a procedural some soapy dramas, color is irrelevant. Members ajsp35801
He has already lost to Neil. The fact that she is with Neil makes it a loss for Devon even if he and Hilary do get together. I know this is a soap and family partner swapping is a staple, but I don't see Devon and Hilary having the writing or investment from TPTB to make them work "after the fact". They are barely on as is and the writing is very shallow. I don't see that changing. Oh okay. Now I am wondering what point you were trying to make with your initial post then? I would love if we drop and transition away from it too. But I don't think that would go over well with the audience. It has gone on so long and been so tedious that dropping it at this point is not really an option.
Members sivad40
IMO, primetime is better than daytime when it comes to their treatment minority characters and primetime still has many issues. I remember Criminal Minds had a black girl take JJ's place when she went on maternity leave and some of the anatognists have been minorities. Primetime has had it highs and lows when it comes to POC. I knpw when a primetime network is just starting up, often times use black audiences by having black shows to build their brand and discard them once their established. Fox, WB, and UPN did this. I could go into greater detail about primetime and POC but I don't want to get sidetracked.

Members ajsp35801
It seems that OWN is taking that route as well.
Members ranger1rg
Is there a lot of work to do on daytime as to people of color? Yes. Still, I find it ridiculous that these "racism on daytime" posts almost always pop up on YR threads. YR does better by black characters than any other soap and gets the most grief for it. I just don't get it. Some of you keep saying that black characters "don't get their own story," pointing out that they end up in a s/l with white characters. Huh? So you want black characters on a story island somewhere, not interacting with other races in town? That makes no sense to me at all. I want African American characters fully integrated with other characters on the show. The problems at YR are many. EVERY storyline has problems. Members cuzIsaySo
I dont follow YR on a regular basis I just keep track of the show as I do most of the remaining soaps on the air. I followed it a bit more this week but since im in canada we got one episode earlier than in the state. I wont comment on friday's/monday show until it airs in the US. I have noticed that the guy who plays Austin briefly played ActorNathan on OTH and i suspect there might be a trend lol. On Days, they hired CM who played actorLucas on OTH, yr got ActorNathan. Im expecting actressBrooke to pop up on BB any day now.
Members sivad40
This post from the HAHN thread should posted over here. " Because black people are on tv we're supposed to excuse bad writing, acting, and casting." I agree with you that Y&R has other problems besides the storylines of black characters. Members Khan
Not necessarily. Integrating the AA characters with the rest of the cast is fine. Putting them in a secondary or subservient position in a storyline driven by their Caucasian counterparts isn't. Yep. Pretty much.
Members Cyberologist
Bravo! well said and ITA the young crew is lacking with Nick chilling back out of Newman Industries, Victoria is MIA in business she' in baby / family mode....Noah is the one, there should be one Newman at Newman. What happened to Kyle? They can use more Abbotts. Also agree re: Nate and even a recurring Olivia for a strong story arc from time to time would be a welcomed addition esp since Dru isn't on the canvas ... Nate should be how old now? For some reason I kept thinking Leslie would unknowingly wind up with Nate as that husband since he's a doctor. Neil needs to be a powerhouse by now in his own company...was sorry when they took Indigo away from him; I really liked him owning that club for some reason. I'm wondering what they are going to do with Tyler now that he's broken up with Abby...Mariah? WoW there is a HAHN thread here? I'm a fan of the show let me mosey on in.... Members Chris B
I've always thought it was stupid not to utilize Olivia and Nate when they know how much people want Dru back. Hell, a properly recast Malcolm could be helpful as well. Let's face it, Shemar Moore is NOT hard to recast. Especially when you consider how hard it is for black actors to find work. They could've easily found a handsome, charismatic male to play Malcolm successfully. Plus Olivia has ties to the Abbott's, the hospital and the Winters family. Nate has endless potential, especially with the doctor setup. Also having Olivia would at least give you the second most successful black female the show has ever seen. And I'll say it again, if Olivia was played by a white actress she would've returned with a story by now. Period.
