HBO's Looking

I had a lot of problems with this show, many of them revolving around Patrick and what they intended him to be vs what he actually was (not even getting into the Richie pairing and the treatment of Richie as a character and my feelings on that), but it always breaks my heart a bit when I see Jonathan Groff interviews and he talks about how hurt he was by the harsh rejection of the show.

I'd say it made me second-guess how naturally critical I am, but I'm not a very nice person, so it didn't.

But it did make me reevaluate a lot of what I felt about his work in the role, and it makes me a bit sorry they never got more time or closure for an ending.

I have a feeling I never would have agreed with the show about an ending anyway, due to the Richie issue.

Thank you for this. I was literally just reading it and thought if anyone had posted it here.

I cannot believe it's been 10 years and seeing where everyone is at. And how people are now re-discovering the show over the last year.

Season 2 is also currently being binged. hehe.

Given how the creators were all about being real...and all the hints throughout the show and it being a scene in the movie...I felt like Dom/Patrick was a good tease. MB and JG definitely had good chemistry.

IKR!! Good and messy (but real) drama. It might be up there with Joey/Pacey on DAWSON CREEK in that it really could have upset the fanbases who were already evenly divided between Pat/Richie and Pat/Kevin.

    • Jason47's episode summaries clarify everything. https://daytimeroyaltyonline.com/days-daily-summaries-1990-1999-t14806-s150.html The construction company is "AJ Construction" (AJ = Adrienne+Justin).   Jencon Oil was building an oil refinery at the construction site. Kirk Geiger played the character Chad Webster. The character Chad was an actor in the movie being made.   The child friend with Shawn-Douglas is Andrew Donovan. A few episodes prior, Andrew and Shawn-Douglas were at the park playing hide-and-seek. They wandered off where they shouldn't have gone, by slipping through the gate onto the construction site.  Shawn-D fell into the hole at the site. There were several episodes of trying to rescue Shawn-D.  Finally Carly rescued Shawn-D, but he was discovered to be deaf.  Andrew felt bad, but Bo and Shane both understood that it was an accident.  Carly later taught Shawn-D sign language. Shawn-D was played by Scott Groff. Andrew was played by Bradley Michael Pierce. pics here: https://web.archive.org/web/20070404163013/http://www.childrenofsalem.com/days/kids/shawnandrew/shawnandrew.html Larger context here: https://web.archive.org/web/20080614054207/http://www.bethsdayspage.com/days/riverfrontraider.htmlhttps://web.archive.org/web/20080614054207/http://www.bethsdayspage.com/days/riverfrontraider.html
    • I had a situation last week where I could watch the new episode on Paramount Plus on my laptop, but it wasn't even listed on my TV as an option.

    • I'm trying to think whether AW had anything remotely resembling that once Steve was killed off and Alice left a widow. So many young love stories were wrapped up either by marrying and leaving town or marrying and killing off one party. Maybe they acted in the final year as if Vicky and Jake had been that couple all along, but they both had better other mates along the way and also Jake was actively hostile to Vicky at too many points without any subtext of caring about her.

    • Beth Ehlers thanked Beth Chamberlain by name from the mic saying she was THE BEST person to be in a triangle with.  Generally speaking I loved Judi's Beth but then also strongly liked BethC's Beth but I did not like the whole Lorelei stage!!!
    • Yep, it seemed temporary, lasted 3-5 minutes, then BACK! Yea.  Thanks.
