Doesn't WLS do a "Greatest of All Time" list every year?

Re: Luke and Noah---being "first" doesn't entitle you to a spot on an "all-time" list in my book. Didn't AMC's Bianca and Maggie pave the way for Nuke? (Or Bianca and that Russian girl?) Van Hansis and Jake Silbermann had ZERO chemistry. IMO. Other than Gus/Harley, they may have been the worst "most popular" couple in the history of soaps (or at least CBS soaps.) IMO.

While I still don't think Otalia deserves a place either on an "all-time" list---at least half of that duo could act.

I think we have to define what "greatest" means. If it's popularity and impact then I do think Nuke deserve to be on the list because they definitely did impact the soap community, if you are rating it by quality then that is ridiculously messy and there is no way to be objective about that. Luke and Noah were a big deal for gay men in soaps, Bianca and Maggie/Frankie were a big deal for lesbians in soaps. I think both should deserve spots for their contributions to Daytime. It's a small price to pay in my opinion since 96% of the list is going to be heterosexual/hetero-normative anyway. The list (in my opinion at least) should be a list that values all the aspects of the soap community, that means also looking at diversity and incorporating it into their list in terms of importance. Excluding gays and lesbians from this list would be just as bad to me as excluding Blacks/African American's Jesse and Angie and Interracial Couples like Noah and Julia.

You're right, "greatest" needs a better definition. If the list is "Couples that Changed/Impacted Daytime", I'd understand Nuke's (or Lure's even) inclusion.

I would never advocate exclusions based on race or gender. But I can't ignore the quality of the acting either. Whether Nuke's impact was made because of or in spite of the acting is up for history to decide.

But it is occassionally fun to debate.

Precisely. Which is why I hate lists like this, whether they're from WLS, TV Guide, Entertainment Weekly, or whatever. It's all so subjective and people shouldn't get up in arms by a list that is by no means definitive and reflects the opinions of a small group.

And who else here is not a couples person? Angie and Jesse and Greg and Jenny are the only two couples I can say I honestly had affection for, and that had a lot to do with the charisma and strengths of the individuals and a wonderfully endearing era of writing. I can say Dimitri>>>>Jack for Erica, but beyond that, couples aren't really me thing. I'm all about the individual character.

I'm working on being less of a couples person than in the past. Of course, in the case of Max & Gabrielle vs. Max & Luna, my 13 year old biased self still gets in the way (ditto T&B vs. TnT) tongue.pnglaugh.png .

Steve and Betsy being that low is ridiculous...they had the second highest rated show in daytime TV with their wedding......I would have put them in front of Phillip and Beth even though I love them too.

I imagine if our 13 year old selves had known each other back then, it would not have been pretty! tongue.png

I miss them too sad.png and I loved both Cass and Kathleen and Cass and Frankie. I miss Cass.

Yay to Cord and Tina!

Phillip & Beth were my favorite couple before I began watching OLTL, and even though I think Judi Evans was wonderful as Beth, there's just something Beth Chamberlin had with Grant Aleksander that was different--and IMO, better for their characters as adults.

But at the end of the day, it's still about Max & Gabrielle for me.

Chamberlin, before they totally decimated the Beth character, had a certain sexual spark and edge with Aeksander that Evans never had.

While I think Judi did some great work as Beth, I never thought she was anything special on AW or DAYS (as Adrienne).

Well, I did kind of like Bonnie...

I liked Chamberlin in some moments (especially when she was Lorelei, and the affair with Ben Warren), but they never seemed to write a balance for Beth; BC's Beth went from victim to bitch.

I'm sorry Cord and Tina weren't a little higher, but at least they were on the list. Andrea and John had some of the sweetest, purest romantic chemistry of any soap couple, IMO. It was just so natural.

    • I realize I harp on this, but I think he spending is relevant.  She's not just buying new wigs. She's building a mansion, she's funding a sports complex, she's paying for operations for people she doesn't know, she's caring for Peaches, she's buying apartments. We saw ?her get ONE check for ONE million dollars. That's it. I may be wrong, but I thought they said she'd get a payment every 6 months. Regardless, she could not rule the roost on $1M, and the show is not doing a good job there. Pretending that doesn't matter? I can't do that.  All they had to do was add a couple lines about payouts and payments.  In other news, I would love to know just how much Anita was putting into that trust as well as what investment got her what has to be an incredible return.

    • I'm honestly surprised Nikki and Victor have not divorced yet... maybe their brief opening of the marriage did something for them.

    • It reminded me of what the Pollocks got away with all the time on THE DOCTORS: long ass flashbacks that don't really add anything to the scene except time.  Because, if you remove the flashback, what's left?  Monica finishes packing Alan's suitcase.  The end. Oh, well.  At least I got to see a young Patricia Elliott (ex-Renee, OLTL) in that Aim toothpaste commercial (not to mention, a shirtless James O'Sullivan (ex-Jeff, AMC; ex-Pete, OLTL; ex-Jerry, SOMERSET) in the commercial for One-a-Day vitamins, lol).
    • Well, I can't help but think it would've been written different with CB still there
    • I could've sworn FV let other people direct either here or at OLTL. I may be wrong. IIRC Kimberly is now very active directing multi-cam/sitcom work. I'd forgotten she even did Netflix's One Day at a Time.
    • IIRC MVJ said the million was just the first piece of what Leslie got or was already owed, something they did make explicit in dialogue but not too explicit. Still, I am past worrying about it. I do think they want 30-yo elder millennial Peaches in her Sophia Petrillo wig to be a point of pathos for Leslie. In theory I am fine with that, and don't dislike Peaches despite the jarring physical disconnect and need for a recast lol. But I do think they do a lot of B&B-style whizzing from Point A to Point C with Leslie on this kind of stuff - in one scene she is raising hell, in the next she is weeping over Peaches. There's very little transition to that sometimes that allows for the nuance, and that can be done much better and they can go much deeper with Leslie (and most characters). The newer/younger audience for the show may have less issue with this kind of quick change than we do.

Thank you.   That was part of my reasoning as well. I think about the days of Kevin, Joey, and Jessica on OLTL or Lucky/Liz/Nik/Sarah/Emily on GH or the Last Blast Kids on DAYS or the Glow by Jabot kids, and it takes me back. Sure I started soaps due to the older cast with their divas, but I do like to see people around my age back then, too. Great memories.   So I love a good relatable teen tale. Bullying. Hormones for the Bad Boy. College choices and internal conflict.
    • Thank you for the information.  I did listen to the entire interview with Miss Roux -- way back when it was first released.  But I am unable to recall her mentioning Connie Ford, and don't have time nor effort to listen to the entire thing again, just for one small morsel. So again, thanks for responding.    I do recall Roux sounded extremely fragile and perhaps a bit wounded in the interview. I almost felt guilty for even listening to it.  So perhaps that has some influence on my reluctance to listen to it again.  She seemed troubled, to say the least.
    • Boxer-briefs, huh?   Well...called it on Cane/Giggly Heffa hooking up so not surprised.
    • Do you have Addie’s first air date??
