All caught up and please forgive some errant collected thoughts on Tornado Week, occasionally stream of consciousness.
First, I'm really surprised and pleased how well BTG delivered on this crossover. I haven’t seen one this solid in ages and that includes the baby swap on AMC/OLTL in the 2000s, which got tedious and which I had fundamental issues with. It was also undeniably a ratings success for ABC though, and hopefully the same will hold true here. Man, BTG made Y&R eat shít on this. As so many have noted (including Y&R's cast!) it is crazy the #1 soap looks broke by comparison. And I don't just mean the FX during and after the tornado - the set, clothes, extras from the beginning were all on point. Hopefully power moves like this, the cotillion/shootout, etc. and keeping up the pace will help secure another renewal for BTG simply by maintaining this rhythm. Not every period on daytime can be like the last month or two, but this is the energy with which the show should have been moving from the jump. There was also more of the bold camerawork and tracking that we saw during the shootout, which reminded me of the old Gottlieb days on OLTL in the '90s.
Folks poorly searching for Hayley in the disaster: "Young woman, Black, very pretty." Doesn’t narrow it down on BTG! Still, the only soap you can say that for in this country.
Damn, that blood effect on Eva with her coughing it up was nasty. Looked like a Friday the 13th sequel. I haven't seen anything that brutal gore-wise on daytime in a minute.
Everyone did very well, particularly Daphnee, Colby, etc. But I was admittedly amused by Mike Manning sobbing because his job depends on tree casualty Martin’s life! He’s not going back to The Bay! He doesn’t wanna do verticals! I like him a lot, but that was my first thought lol.
Ashley really thinks she's an EMT already with these walkie-talkies after 5 minutes. “Go for Ashley!” Girl, relax. I did like the walkie interlude with her and Andre, though. It's been long enough between their last serious interaction that it wasn't cloying or saccharine like their relationship last year, and it felt different. If they do touch on that again going forward with the drama coming up I will keep an open mind re: a fling, though I don't think there's any mature pairing or truly interesting romance there.
Peter Bergman and Susan Walters are clearly thinking about staying in these scenes lol. They don't wanna go back to the dusty mascot at Crimson Lights and the Starbucks pods! I would not hate if the Kyle/Hayley dalliance somehow continued. Anita clocking them was great. Even Devon and Abby seemed like they could slot in a bit. Well, maybe less so Abby. She's always been useless. I did love Leslie asking Diane 'what's your secret?'
Very good job simulating realistic major weather in the brief exterior (or 'exterior') stuff with Jacob's car driving in the storm. GH, etc. didn't do half that in similar situations recently.
I have no moral judgment to render on Bill/Dani. I get why people are mad but it's all just soap to me for now. I feel for Andre, I like Andre and Dani and I also enjoy Bill and Dani fúcking. Let it rip!
This fireman looking awful weary at Izaiah like ‘I gotta go down some stairs? 😩’ Yes sir. Hurry up!
