He truly was.

So anyhow, JY's casting seems to be controversial.   It was a misfire whether or not it was for a 'hunkier, sexier' actor.  Maybe someone in casting really thought he was great?  But is JY's stint as Lucky that damaging for the character?  I think GV's tenure was much worse for Lucky through no fault of GV's.  The minute JJ came back Lucky gained 50 IQ points.  I definitely hated how JY's Lucky treated Liz, but in the scheme of damage to LL2 that came much later.  Is there outrage over the casting of NL as Emily?  She much more beautiful in a traditional sense than AT and has similar limitations.

I can’t count the number of soap recasts leaning towards a sexier version over the years.  When it ends up working, it’s great.  But I can only think of a few that truly worked for me.

They did it all the time.  It’s like the first time around for some characters they look for charisma and talent, and then when they leave they look for pretty first, and sometimes get lucky with talent.  Especially when they were younger characters being recast.

GH was almost all misery all the time by the time JJ returned.  Any sense of balance had pretty much gone away, and it was bleak even for Guza.

Sarah Felder getting canned as Siobhan for not being more conventionally attractive on Ryan’s Hope is the primary example of old.

Emily also seemed so basic and dumbed-down with NL in the role. All of her rough edges had been sanded off. She had no connection to the thoughtful young woman we’d known for years. It was sad to see Labine’s vision for that character undermined in that way.

The first one I thought of, yes.

And I def agree about how bland they made Emily with Natalia. Such a waste, especially of a triangle that on paper (Nikolas/Emily/Zander) was dynamite given the torch she had carried for Nik since adolescence.

She chose to leave when her contract expired.  It was rumored that JFP and her did not get along and JFP wouldn't give her time off for a project.

They toyed with Nik/Emily a little under AT.  I remember her kissing him, but it wasn't reciprocated.

I was actually surprised/not surprised when I read that.   Not surprised that JFP was awful to her, but AT landed quite a few roles right after GH so I assumed she just knew it was time to leave.  It would be interesting to see the trajectory of the Emily character if she had stayed.  I agree there would have probably been a Nik/Zander/Emily triangle, but CB and AT were so good together I doubt Nik would have won.   I definitely don't see AT hanging out a Windemere as a pretty, pretty princess, but I could see her as a (more believable) doctor.  I think AT would have done great with the cancer stories.

Could Emily not have kids?  It's strange she never had a pregnancy or child with Nik.

Jeff Branson was meh as Ronan and doesn't scream Lucky to me at all.

Jon who?   Oh the easily forgotten about Mike Kasnoff. Nah.

You need an actor with charisma and heart for Lucky.  He's supposed to be the "best" parts of Luke and Laura.  That's what got lost with JY. JJ embodied the soul of who Lucky was supposed to be.  The horrible writing and that gawdawful Siobhan character and ALL the crying were lousy, and I'm sure that and the call of prime time were the top reasons he bolted. If ever a new Lucky is cast (and it won't be with #firefrank in charge) I'd love an arrival with his fiancee Brenda Barrett in tow.  Of course it's just a cover story for Brenda to go for Sonny and Lucky to win back his first love, and reconnect with his kids, his mother and family.

    • I pray⏤and I know it's a big prayer⏤that Noel Maxam is somehow able to figure things out budget-wise so we can stop re-dressing existing sets as "new" sets. I know in apartment buildings apartments can generally look the same, but I'm over it on this soap. The last time he was executive producer was in 2011 when the original Horton Town Square was introduced, and we had some other sets get introduced around this time (likely pre-commissioned prior to his election), but I'm trying to have some hope he can pull this off. Let's [finally] see it.
    • Definitely not the best of RC's breakdowns. I don't know what it says that I could pick up his trademarks yesterday 30 minutes in without even knowing that he did one. There was something more...quirky/boardstroked...about Dani. Though I love the Dani/Nicole scenes, she was just a little too hip?...which made me think back to the episode when she broke into Bill/Hayley's house. Then watching the episode later on, I saw Hayley was being used as a punchline to the more interesting and relevant Bill/Ted scenes (see you all were just talking about how you hoped they got scenes...one thing this show is great at...what people want on this board...they already have the foresight for it. The reason I feel the DNA test will get mentioned @Cheap21 in more detail). And then poor Anita reduced for the most part propping up an album.    Needless to say, not my favorite RC episode. And since we are in aftermath week, I just smh. And barely worth a rewatch. BUT...was there good for me?    Yes. Thankfully, we still got good aftermath beats regardless of the breakdown.   Like I said, I really like the Dani/Nicole scenes. But I love their dynamic. And I was looking forward to the shoe being on the other foot once the SilkPress storyline hit climax. Quirks aside, it did not disappoint. Dani came in, and she came in fierce for her sister. I loved her attacking Eva. And then her being surprisingly introspective about Nicole due to her own experience. No wonder Nicole reacted to her being self-aware. So did I.    Meanwhile Bill and Ted finally met up. I'm kinda sad that we did not get that sooner given the scenes that played out sidepiece in the background aside. It might have been interesting to see more of their status as non-Duprees coming into the family explored.    And of course I can't leave without mentioning Eva vs SilkPress Sheila which was the highlight. Both of them were giving. And SilkPress was just so cold with it. I did love that Eva finally stopped letting her gaslight her. Sad to see the duo break up. But I did love that she went to Ted. So...the next turn begins.   And speaking of turns...uh oh at Kat and Tomas. I'm sure he won't be staying away from her. So most definitely, Kat vs Eva ain't over. It will be interesting to see how it goes now that most people know that Kat was right all along.
    • Nah I enjoyed it much more last year because of the Harry plot that ended during that time. Nazar being introduced and them. But this time it is so lame and nothing I like forward to anymore and I’m one of them long time fans. Of course I would be upset if they would cancel it but maybe take a year off or two and return refreshed
    • came across this quote that provides some context: “It’s hard to escape the cultural reach of the Catholic Church when you live in the Western world. It is, for better or worse, one of the load-bearing walls of our civilization. Its influence wafts from the church into the streets of civic life, the courts, the schools, the arts.”
    • Yesterday's show:   Can they give Ambyr Michelle the Emmy for supporting actress already?   Truly enjoyed the episode from Leslie and Eva, Eva and Ted, Nicole and Dani to Anita and Nicole.

    • Yes, I noticed after discovering Chandler was in several episodes. It's a shame it was canceled. I'm glad I was able to watch Chandler's episodes.
    • I'm Catholic, and I care, as do many who aren't Catholic. No need to be so nasty about it.. The whole episode was on Paramount Plus. That is where I watched it..
