April 14, 201114 yr Member I don't know, I do know Catherine was very loyal to Frons and the brass at ABC Daytime when she was still employed there. So her coming out now and bashing him means very little to me. Though, she clearly has nothing to lose, so why not? Edited April 14, 201114 yr by Y&RWorldTurner
April 14, 201114 yr Member All shows must end, but the genre itself has failed too. Soaps have been canceled in every decade, but were replaced by another one or there were lots of other soaps left. I think if soaps ever have a revival, it has to be tailored to the attention span of the audience. Traditional soap audiences are all but gone, there just aren't many people that are at home in the afternoon anymore and besides that, the soaps are too slow paced. If soaps ever come back they need to be a half-hour, air just before primetime and have straightforward stories that make sense.

April 14, 201114 yr Member Ouch! cathickland Catherine Hickland Because every show Brian Frons touches, dies, does that make him a serial killer? Whewww! Make it plain!
April 14, 201114 yr Member I think that if the soaps had also changed, more would still be on the air. Soaps were considered out of step before but adapted and survived. No one in charge of daytime has cared for years about changing with the times. No one cared and the industry was SCREWED by the horrible 90's soaps: CITY, PC, SUBE, PASSIONS. None of those were traditional soaps, and they all failed big time. The execs made the GRAVE MISTAKE to think they couldn't successfully launch a new soap, when in fact we don't know that to be the case as its been over two decades since a tradional soap premiered. Please fans of those 90's soaps don't be offended although I believe the fact the industry failed to premiere traditional soaps is a factor of the current situation. Certainly soaps have always been cancelled its a fact of the tv biz, although we always had new soaps to replace them with. With the 90's disasters, the industry gave up on new soaps so what we have are the ones left on life-support and eventually they will all be gone. Yes the soap ratings have been in decline, although I think that has more to do with a dissatisfaction with the same old soaps than a rejection of the genre, if the genre had premiered traditional soaps in the 90's who knows what things could be like now, sure AMC and OLTL may still have ended up cancelled today although if the industry had done things different than AMC and OLTL would be replaced by new soaps instead of the trash we are getting.
April 14, 201114 yr Member I cannot believe more of you are not saddened by this. Despite what has become of soaps in the past few years, this is the end of something that was once a staple of culture. All of us here, or most of us, grew up on these shows. It doesn't make anyone else sad that you won't get to turn on your TV and see these characters anymore? Obviously, it's still just a show, but soap operas are different. This is truly the end of a generation, and it is sad.
April 14, 201114 yr Member I want FV to bring back Kish w/ Sierra Rose for the last few episodes I do too. Even if just for one episode to give a brief update on what they've been up to.
April 14, 201114 yr Member what a sad, sad day. It's the end of everything. I feel so sad at the idea that Erica and Viki will just cease to exist never to be seen again. No more Tad, no more Dorian, no more nothing. And what about all the sites and magazines like this one? With no shows, what's the point of having a digest? Frons is scum. He truly has no business being a TV executive, and his boss who wanted to cancel all three at once is no better. They are replacing programs that had scripts and writers and varying degrees of artistic merit with yet more inane, pointless chat fests designed to rot the mind and every person should be ashamed to watch. "The Chew"? A talk show about food? What is there to say except "ABC, Eat [!@#$%^&*]".
April 14, 201114 yr Member As much as I loved KISH, there are far more important people to bring back before OLTL goes.
April 14, 201114 yr Member Oh wow, I thought AMC was at least a goner. I wonder if this first show flops if that might give OLTL a reprieve?
