AMC and OLTL Canceled!

Maybe just because they seem dead, they always come back to life? Like soap characters? Making fun of soap storylines... or that the soaps aren't really dead and they'll show up somewhere else? :D Don't get John or Marsha though - random names???

The old joke/parody of soaps is a couple saying "oh John" and "oh Marsha."

And by "tears," of course, we mean, "Frons laughed so hard, he cried."

And a gun in her purse. Am I right, Madea?

ABC executives reaction to the cancellation news.

LOVE him...I will never forgive Felicia Behr for including him in her purge when she started.:lol:

Actually, she didn't fire him. She essentially told him that he'd never be lead in a story ever again, so he just left. I think the only people she fired outright during her first year were Peter Bergman and Ellen Wheeler. I liked Bergman and wished TPTB hadn't wimped out on the Cliff-Angie pairing. There was a ton of potential there.

OHHH - so THAT'S what they were doing in that episode of Mad Men last season! HAHA - I always thought it was odd, dramatic, yet charming - I loved it! Now it makes sense :)

It definitely implies some sponsors are just as skeptical as the fans are about the financial prosperity of the "innovative" shows coming down the pike to replace the soaps..... isolated incident, or will it cause a chain reaction?

The new shows are only being made because they're cheap. That probably means less profit for the advertisers as well. When you add in that Frons is incredibly incompetent and seems to have no people skills, and that these shows have not exactly had a positive reaction so far (the dumbest names possible, and one of them is reportedly having huge problems starting up), it makes sense if some advertisers are sending a message. I think they may just be trying to say, "Don't expect to throw anything on the air and assume we will be there." My guess is this is more about the stuff they are planning to replace GH with.

Did you read JPL's statement? I can understand why Robin went off...

http://www.soapopera...ltl-cancelation

OLTL's John-Paul Lavoisier weighs in on his soap's cancelation: "Yeah, you know. All good things must come to an end sometimes. Farah [Fath] and I have plans to head out to L.A. as soon as the show wraps. Time for me to pound the pavement in another town I suppose. We are actually very anxious and excited for all the new jobs ahead. I wish everyone at AMC and OLTL the very best of luck in their careers and personal lives that are to come after November of 2011. I will forever feel extremely blessed to have worked on the final nine and a half years of one of the longest running television shows in the world's history. Thank you, Brain Frons for letting us all work under your amazing talent and decision making for all this time. Thank you."

Get your pole ready JPL. You will need it.....

Now the question is will other sponsors follow? That's the key. One good thing, now that one has pulled the ads, that will winds in the sails of the people campaigning, knowing that they got one on their side.

John and Marsha are names from an old soap commercial from the 50s. It's been parodied a million times through the years but it's still a REALLY dated reference.

Could be an isolated thing too given the VP's wife is a soap fan

Yeah, but a VIP doesn't pull their ads simply because his wife is a fan. Their has to be something in this for them, and IMO, if there's something in this for them, then there's something in it for most of the sponsors.

We'll see how it all shakes out. I'm still stunned we got one at all. LOL

I don't think this will change any decisions regarding AMC and OLTL but I do think the stupidity of how this was handled has caused some issue at ABC. Baba would not have gone out and shilled for Frons if it wasn't serious.

wow I never heard of this but your link shed some light. It is actually a comic track from 50s comedian Stan Freberg, and I guess this commercial used it.
