Because after all this, he NOW has to be more careful about appearing offensive toward his boss... not just because its Brian Frons, but because it might be seen as a reflection of his public attitude toward future (potential) employers. So he's basically saying, take it however you like.

It's kinda funny how one of the most gracious and articulated comments about the cancellations came from an imposter pretending to be Trent Garrett.
