The only part of this that I'm truly dreading is the inevitable "Save AMC" movement that will spring up after the news drops.

How far does All My Children tape in advance? I ask to understand how long the writers would have to wrap up the show, assuming it will end in September.

4-5 weeks. I use to get inside scoop from another forum. So assuming it's over in Sept. the final arcs would start in late June/early July.

AMC tapes 3-4 weeks ahead

If they go, we know why. I do think AMC could have been saved, absolutely, even now in its current sorry state. It isn't at the point of a GL or an ATWT to me.

AMC's been dead in the water when they were stupid enough to bring Pratt aboard, he built the coffin and K&S put the nails in it.

ATWT was better than AMC by a long shot. ATWT at it's worst was better than AMC, OLTL and GH combined

How sad. AMC sucks, but it was nice to know Erica and pals were still chugging along somewhere on EARTH-PV. So another talk shows? What is there left to talk about??? I would think the 300 other talk shows have covered all the bases.

There's been rumors actors have been looking for jobs, so I think there is some merit to this. These rumors aren't coming out of thin air IMO.

I wonder if AMC would end in Sept, or if they'd let it end at the end of 2011

How's The Talk doing in the ratings? I would find it hysterical if they axed AMC and its replacement got worse ratings.

Even if a talk show replacement received worse ratings, ABC could still consider it a success since it would be much, much cheaper to produce than a soap. So it would be saving them a lot of money.

Why would they be out looking for jobs now? Unless there's a lot of contracts up now, it's not like I see AMC letting them out to find work elsewhere.

I can see Frons gloating if a talk show did better

Sorry I have yet to be convinced Frons is invested in the ABC soaps

He's invested in his job, not soaps.

Depending on the actor, I could see the network releasing them early a la Finn Wittrock and even if they don't, if an actor can get a few side gigs then at least that's still money. At least the AMC actors have a slight advantage being on the west coast. Although I saw an article that said NYC reinstated the tax credit and there's more production in the city so the OLTL actors aren't as screwed as they have been for the last few years.

I never understood the logic, "it doesn't matter if the ratings are low, it's cheaper to produce". Of course it matters. What advertiser does anyone know willing to pay for a show where no one in the demo they desire is watching? We all know why The Talk is still on the air.

Anyway, if what you say is true Carl about repeats, the networks may as well give the time back to the affiliates.

But if you are making a cheap show, you need fewer advertisers and there are always products to sell.

i can't believe Survivor is in it's 20th season or something ridiculous, but a really challenging, thought provoking show like Dollhouse is pulled with less than two solid years of shows. The race to the bottom isn't being run but the writers or creators, it's being run by the networks who are bleeding every penny and continuing to put on crap. Unfortunately viewers can easily become addicted to "junk food" and forget how to chew something with significance.
