The thing is Lucci is everywhere. She doesn't need an hour on Oprah. Erica and her men again??? Did we really need that again??? I don't think so.

Pleaseeeeee....My mom kept saying when is Jeanne(Mrs. Chancellor coming out?) She was like there is too much of AMC on. She likes Susan but could have cared less about Tad the Cad mess and everything else.

But Oprah is an AMC fan and she is paying tribute to the soap stars she loves, the same way she loves some stars and brings them on and other people probably wonder how they even rate interviews on cable access, let alone Oprah. I would sooner take a nap than listen to an interview with Jennifer Aniston pimping her divorce from the stone age because it is the only way she can get publicity, but Oprah has her on and that is her guest. So be it.

I thought it was a really nice show. Darnell Williams made me physically ill with his "Oprah, watching you be successfull is enough to make my life worth living" shtick, but I think it is great that once upon a time soaps mattered to people, and Oprah wants to revisit them for old time's sake one last time.

and isn't that revolting? I mean, these vapid biddies have nothing interesting to say on their own show except one wondering if the world is flat while the other claims dog torture is a cultural thing. If this is who Oprah wants on her show, well it is her show. And maybe the airhead can tell Oprah she has to research things before she can answer any question.

I wish Oprah's show were divded into more longer segments--the first one is longest then they get shorter and shorter (which I think is how Days does it too--going back to my statement the other day how Days divides its soap up between commercials more than other shows). It makes it seem even shorter than it is (I guess it's less insulting than when she has some rape victim on and keeps telling her mid story that she'll be right back).

I haven't read all the talk here yet but... I liked it. I didn't really expect more--I knew we'd get Susan Lucci mainly, brief check ins with the others, etc. Not being a Y&R fan even I feel Jeanne deserved maybe one more quick segment, but I'm sure she and everyone else knew what they were getting. (it says something about the power of Oprah--and maybe their feelings for AMC--that they managed to get all of Erica's husbands on for face cameos).

Other random thoughts--Darnell W looked far handsomer I thought than he has one the show for a while--is it cuz he's not in costume? He's not making so many faces? Him and Debbi were charming (as always) and I thought their segment was great (and very funny and true that they're the only ones in Pine Valley who stay together--or eat or pray lol). Michael E Knight--someone I always either love or loathe on AMC--also came off well, and I thought it was charming how he mentioned he didn't think he still looked that great (maybe charming's not the right word lol, but it did make me think about how often soap viewers dont' seem to think that obviously there must be pressure for these aging men on the shows to stay a certain look as well).

Luke and Laura, meh. I don't watch GH and yet had seen those clips and heard all of that really--it seemed odd to have Genie dismiss the rape because it was date rape though--I know she meant more than that and they could have devoted at least one more minute to it.

Susan was her always charmign self. I didn't know that residual injuries from a car accident caused you to get surgery on your breasts (OK maybe not surgery but she's had SOMETHING done)--I loved that he rhouse had a Dynasty-esque portrait of herself, and I was relieved that when she showed her using her little face scrubber machine she didn't plug it by name at least.

Great to see all of Erica's men--they should really do another Erica husband dream episode while they can, if only just as a crumb for us fans. I actually had thought some--like Larkin Malloy had passed away. Obvious to see that fans still have a lot of love for Dimitri (and Tom still looks great, compared to everyone else there in that lineup except maybe Jack he had barely aged)

Not much else--yeah it was a fluff piece. But I didn't expect more. I get why people liek Soapsuds are upset that it was so AMC heavy and maybe they shoulda advertised the episode as something else--that said, and I saw this fully aware of my bias as an AMC lover first and foremost, I dunno really, besides Eric Braeden of course, who else they coulda brought on with as much audience familiarity

We didn't need Erica and her men *again*, but if they were going to fly ALL those guys out *again*, at least give them all a chance to say a little something. That's where a full hour with Susan would have been nice. But I would like a full hour with Susan similar to her appearances on the Jane Pauley Show and Montel where Oprah got the chance to ask her more Barbara Walters-esque questions. Every time she's been on before the main focus has been the show, and that's how soap stars (even the biggest one of them all) tend to be treated. Character first, actor second. But you know, we had Soap Talk on SoapNet which even they dropped. SN was our real opportunity to go in-depth with these stars. Soapography couldn't even devote a half hour let alone a whole one to a single star. I get where you're coming from, but I think we should be thankful for what we got today.

How bad was it when Oprah said she only invited the ones she wanted to?? Really Oprah?? That left a bad taste in my mouth. How about doing a show earlier than this and inviting the fresh faces of daytime..those that showed promise instead of pimping Luke and Laura who are yesterdays news.

And she said Mrs. Chancellor was one of her favorite characters on daytime yet she spent less than 5 minutes with her???? I say it again....Shame on you Oprah!! She might as well have not invited Jeanne. What a waste!!

Eric, I was impressed that she managed to work in both Youtful Essence *and* Malibu Pilates. :P That portrait is the one Jeremy painted for Erica that used to hang in Linden and later in her office at Enchantment. My guess is when they made the move to L.A. it was gifted to her.

I don't see why that is bad. Who should she invite, people she doesn't want on the show? Do a show on the fresh faces of daytime? What fresh faces?

As she duly noted, Luke and Laura pulled in 30,000,000 viewers. If there is a single character or actor on daytime that has struck a chord with America the way Erica Kane did or Luke and Laura, let them come forward. Soaps are culturally irrelevant and have been for a good 15 years to all but we small band of diehards who refuse to give up the habit. Soaps are cigarettes I guess.

Damn right. And that formula has worked perfectly well for her so screw the rest.

Honestly, this thread is starting to display exactly what I think has killed soaps: a lethal combination of nostalgia and provincialism. Instead of just enjoying the fact that ANYONE - let alone someone with Oprah's resources and reach - chose to highlight the genre we get "This should've been a week of shows!" "MOAR Chancellor!" and "Where was OLTL?"

Well next year Oprah will be gone and no one will give any of these shows or actors the time of day.
