It amazes me that reruns of The Doctors, a LONG forgotten soap, have been so successful that they have their own streaming service that you have to pay for. You can convince me that people pay for that, but wouldn’t pay to stream the current or more well known soaps. The fact that they don’t even try is crazy. It doesn’t even have to be on All Access! If they did a separate “soap” channel on Amazon Id gladly pay to subscribe. With Proctor & Gamble, they had the AOL deal and Another World used to be on Hulu. They could easily stock a Soap Channel since that stuff has already been converted.

SO true, ESPECIALLY with the Kay/Jill feud from the 70's when it was at its best!! The first 10 years were the best of Y&R, hands down! With the airing of the first 2 episodes and Kay's facelift reveal, I looked on the official Y&R's Facebook page and scoured the comments section of those posts and you wouldn't believe how many people wanted more or for them to start from the beginning! So there's definitely a market for it.

Agreed. If Sony, P&G, ABC and the other companies that own these soaps got together and put their back catalogues and the current new shows on a Soap Opera Streaming Platform it would work, they might even be able to bring back AMC or OLTL again. It would also allow Days and other soaps that are skating on thin ice on broadcast TV the opportunity to slowly move to an online streaming platform and allow these shows a stronger future.

@will81 From the lawsuit, we know Days needs money. Based on that, it’s insane Ken Corday doesn’t get Days streaming. You could put it on Peacock where it can get revenue due to the ads, or like The Doctors and do a fee where people pay to watch the episodes. People are insanely crazy about Days online. They’d easily make money doing something like that.

I think Corday is actually desperate to do that from what I have heard from him. It seems it is NBC that isn't, and I am not sure if Corday has the option to shop the back catalogue around, but honestly if any shows back catalogue is going up, it will most likely be Days. Once Corday finds a way to do it.

If Sony has digitized Y&R and B&B then they need to work with Corday and put all three shows up. I do think there is enough interest for a pay streaming service to offset costs, and even if they have to scrub some music, I will accept that to a certain point.

As you mentioned The Doctors has done extremely well. Sometimes I feel like we are on the verge of getting more, just not sure when. The CBS reruns have done well enough to show enough people are interested.

That's why Corday sued Sony - in an attempt to force their hand and actually do something to benefit DAYS. I agree with you wholeheartedly, I think DAYS would do well on Peacock.

Sony has no role in B&B. That show is 100% owned by Bell-Phillip Television Productions Inc.

It isn't NBC that controls the distribution of DAYS. Sony is the distributor, they market the show to all broadcasters - so it is ultimately Sony who negotiates with NBC for the broadcast rights to the show. Either Sony and NBC have got a deal with streaming, or the rights for streaming remain in limbo.

If I were NBC, I'd be insisting on the DAYS episodes for Peacock. It really is a no-brainer.

Oh right, I knew that and totally flubbed, haha

Yeah I meant more NBC wasn't willing to or was holding out on streaming the show. I thought that was what Corday meant when he said NBC was not coming to the table. Not that they had any right to distribute, more they had the platform for it, and I was wondering if Corday through Sony has the right to shop a deal around or not. Thanks for clearing that up though

I do wonder if we’ll ever see box set-style curated stories, like a few episodes detailing Marlena’s possession or a series highlighting the Bo/Hope romance, which may actually be a much better bingeing experience. They’d likely have to deal with some music replacement stuff, but at least it wouldn’t be such a gargantuan task for so little payoff. They’d never get a license fee to cover the costs of remastering and dealing with rights for thousands of episodes, especially with ‘80s episodes where there was so much popular music.

Hey everyone, someone is uploading a bunch of partial episodes and clips from 1982. Check out the soap vault (I don't know how to link it, sorry but link is in @ChickenNuggetz92signature) in Y&R - clips - 1982. So far full of stuff I haven't seen from early 1982.

Sorry for some reason every time I try to link to it, it never works.

Those clips are awesome... a HUGE thank you to whoever is our mysterious benefactor! It looks like it has Jerry Douglas' debut, Paul & Kay's first scenes together, and the scene where Allison Bancroft brings out a life size cut out of Nikki stripping... I've wanted to see that forever!

Poor Cash, I actually felt so bad for him.

The first episode posted is a full one too

Howard McGillan took over for Wings Hauser who was the Greg married to Nikki

ETA: Lol at Liz "Setting to be married"

Kay "Is that a bad thing?"

Liz "You've been married three times already"

From what I understand Barbara either trafficked drugs or stole money from people who did or something like that. Hence the nose job in that 1981 ep, she was on the run. Pretty sure it was a dropped plot point. Bell kinda fumbled through this family and then shipped them off. Despite Y&R being a bit of a mess 80 - 82, still loving these episodes

Got another sad news from the Bahamian community (not a celebrity)  https://www.instagram.com/p/DJMSrYCgyes/?igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ== Former Bahamian Senate President J Henry Bostwick, Husband of former 1st Bahamian Female Cabinet Minister Dame Janet Bostwick is dead yesterday on his 86th birthday.    Thanks and for those who've aren't familiar with the talk shows in The Bahamas on this thread here, his talk show named The Freedom March with Dr Rodney Moncur that airs on ILTV and The Beat 103.5 FM Nassau every weekday afternoons. IIRC, he suffered a illness before he died.  Here's the link for his final taping of the show before his death: https://ewnews.com/this-is-powerful-rodney-moncurs-final-sign-off/

    • One thing I thought about is if Hayley will have a reaction to Bill threatening to kidnap and sell a baby. That's another level of viciousness and with her just having thought she was pregnant it might make her feel some type of way.
    • You're welcome. Fall 1982-Spring 1985 was the peak of primetime soaps. What a time to have been alive.
    • 1990/91 Cheers, Roseanne, A Different World, The Cosby Show, Empty Nest, The Golden Girls were still Top 10 shows, and Murphy Brown and Designing Women became Top 10 shows. It was the following season that I think was the transition season for sitcoms.
    • @xtr I loved Martin in Thursday's episode, he was almost a different character. I thought he was flirty, funny, carefree, and giggly. Glad I have someone to share my top 2 women(Nicole and Eva) with, I agree Nicole is the heart of the Dupree family, and also the heart of the show IMO. We rode into the show on the passenger side of her car, lol. What I am enjoying the most about the show, is that they did such a great job character building, because all I care about is the CHARACTER journey. Nicole, Eva, Leslie, Dani, Chelsea, etc. very invested in what's coming next. I even feel that way about Mona, Shanice, and Doug.
    • I know we have discussed the fact that Another World seemed to be planning a location shoot in Finland that got cancelled. I came across this item from the syndicated Soapbox column published June 14, 1982. "Soap operas have been experimenting extensively with on-location shooting in recent years to enhance storylines and increase their viewing audience. A major drawback is the added production costs involved. Another World, for example, cancelled a special trip for Victoria Wyndham (Rachel Cory on the show), who was scheduled to shoot scenes in Finland. The producers felt that the high price tag, along with resentment of the cast members who also wanted to travel but were to be left behind. was enough to scrap the whole project."
    • A few more thoughts about these last two episodes. I thought it was interesting how much disdain both Dani/Anita have for Eva. I thought it was amusing how Dani was calling her lying/conniving and how Anita pointed as if to say, "that part". They definitely are not here for her, and I could see them having harsh confrontations with her in addition to Leslie. I'm curious to see Kat's interaction with Eva on Monday's episode. I think it might be interesting if Kat (along with possibly Naomi/Chelsea) come around to Eva before Dani/Anita do. Of course, Kat will be understandably angry at her. But maybe a tiny part of her might feel sorry for her if she really does believe that she's Ted's daughter as well and that Leslie lied to her. I could see Kat confronting Eva again and warning her not to harm her family anymore. But I could also possibly see Kat admitting that what Ted/Leslie did regarding her was messed up as well. And maybe that will pave the way down the line for them to get along better. I also agree with the comments/speculation made in the threat that Nicole will eventually accept/probably love her someday as well. I still wouldn't mind if somehow Nicole ended up being her biological mother. They have both been acting like they care for each other in this storyline. Nicole somehow ending up being her mother would be soapy and provide some more interesting layers in this story. And regarding Andre/Dani's romance it seems like they are genuinely developing feelings for each other. I have missed episodes, so maybe more of this has been elaborated on. But it seemed like there was genuine affection between both of them when they snuck a kiss publicly in the hotel. And also, them both talking about going publicly with their relationship. I wonder what everyone's reactions will be should they be caught by someone together. Of if they flat out tell everyone about their relationship.
    • I was wondering what week it was, and it explains the low rating for Knots Landing. I was also wondering what preempted Dallas and Falcon Crest.
    • Interesting take on Dallas. Frankly I think the plot of JR Returns should have been the way Dallas ended but for whatever reason they thought they had the chance to get renewed for another season lol. A week later Knots’ 2 hour season finale ranked at #10 against Cheers #3 and LA Law at #5. There’s only a handful of other shows running that long and still doing well enough the ratings/rankings i.e. Gunsmoke, Law & Order, NCIS, Grey’s Anatomy and more recently Blue Bloods.    Another point of interest is the unraveling of the 80’s sitcoms had already begun in the spring of ‘91. The first part of a Who’s The Boss? two part season finale we see here ranked at  #40 and second part ranked at #43 the following week. Growing Pains finale the previous week barely made it into the Top 30. The Wonder Years fared no better. Cosby losing ground, Night Court and Dear John just being there etc.
