I wish more of her material from that last ATWT stint was around because there are some ideas she is trying that likely felt new for the time or could have been innovative (like Penny adopting a child and Tom and Carol starting to go into eco-farming, etc.). Her reputation so often seems to overshadow her work.

Not with all 6 actors under contract.  I'm pretty sure there were a wedding or two where all 6 siblings made appearances.  (After they left the show as contract players, Steve Bassett and Jennifer Ashe visited often.)  Maybe they were all present at Holden/Lily's 1991 wedding?  And/or Ellie and Kirk's?

Although I would love to read a biography on her. Today, I came across a new biography on Stanley Kubrick and wondered where was hers? Of all the autobiographies and biographies that I have read over the last several years, hers would be right up there with the likes of Norman Lear, Paddy Chayefsky and Bob Fosse. It’s odd that there isn’t at least one comprehensive biographical book on her. Do you know if there is one in the pipeline?

As I say, personal opinion can vary completely from person to person.

And, it would be terribly tedious if everyone sat around saying nothing but, "I agree with you! You are so right! Ain't that the truth? Nobody could ever deny that!"

At least contrasting opinions keep things lively.

It's like people who say they hate puppies. They immediately raise my suspicion and ire, LOL!

Continuing my binge watching of 1990… up to August, where Iva is on her cruise that she won on the Inside Oakdale launch. Whose wild idea was it to put her in a random triangle between Jason Benedict and Franco Visconti, of all people??

Also enjoying the chemistry between Jon Hensley and Heather Rattray - he managed to somehow bring out more Martha Byrne like qualities in her!

I know you've all seen this but I just did a new edit.

One of my favorite moments. I call it the "Dusty Who?" moment. Before, Dusty is Lily's boyfriend, Holden jumps down out of the barn loft. Nothing is ever the same again.

Are you talking about Irna Phillips?! You know she was working on her autobiography when she died? I look at the acclaim her two proteges received & I am amazed. I think Irna had one street named after her & that was it. There is one book, about women in the industry where she has a chapter. There is possibly more written about her eccentricities than her genius.

Correction: The book I referred to is about industry greats & she is the only woman.

I don't think Marland ever cared about similar names. Ellen Dolan once spoke of how confused some of the actors were during the Carolyn Crawford murder story because you had a character named William and a character named Billy, etc.

When you have writers or producers who focus too much on that type of thing, you end up with Y&R, where a character was rechristened "Chance Chancellor" because they didn't want to have two Philips on the show at the same time (which they only had for a very short time anyway).

Apparently not. I remember reading in an interview that he liked names that began with the hard "K" sound, ie, Cal, Connor, Kirk, Caleb, Carolyn Crawford and probably a dozen others. I remember the confusion when Terry Lester's character had a butler named Graham, was dating Emily, who constantly called Ellen "Gram" in scenes.

And he didn't avoid using actor's names either. In the late 80's/early 90's, there was Scott DeFrietas, Scott Bryce (drifting in and out) and Scott Holmes, and he went and named Lisa's long lost son---SCOTT. It must have made calling the cast to the stage hell.
