I dont think Marland would have been able to write Maggie so it's for the best.  She probably would have sung the praises of those annoying Snyder's.

I notice Alan seems to shut up if he doesn't know the stars...and both Duncan and Shannon were gone before he arrived.

To me, most of the GL ones have been fun..and I wonder if perhaps the stars of GL were more animated and fun?

Frank is still around in early November 1985, as he questioned Kevin after Kevin found Marie's corpse. I think Maggie was gone by this point. I think she left as soon as Marland's material began to air.

I wonder if Marland or someone at P&G had an issue with Mary Linda Rapleye, as Maggie was not only written out, but I don't even remember her being mentioned again, even though her entire family was still on the canvas and Marland's era was usually very good about history. I had no idea she even existed until I got the history book in 1996. It's a shame, because the character had some worth, and was a good contrast to Lyla and to Margo.

From Locher's interviews, it seems that there was a lot of good times and camaraderie among the cast as a whole.  I think the leads (Grant, MOL, Zimmer, etc.) liked to have fun (and a good drink) while delivering great work...this set the tone for the show.

Compare that to ATWT, where the leads tended to be a bit older / mature (Don Hastings, Kathryn Hayes, Bryggman, etc.), there were MANY BTS romances (the Hensleys, Pinter-Zink, Maura and Scotty D.), and the show's actresses were of a certain age and likely a bit more territorial (Zenk, Hubbard, HBS, etc.).  The ATWT cast seemed to get along well, but they don't seemed to have had the roaring good time that was the norm over on the GL set.

Years ago, I read an article about ATWT and EON celebrating their respective 25th (?) anniversaries with parties, with Don Hastings saying theirs (ATWT) was a bit dull, and the writer remarking how EON's lively bash was a marked contrast to ATWT's.

So, it's possible that ATWT's set was a congenial set, but also a very stuffy one.

I noticed that someone in the chat asked Alan why he hasn't had any black actors on yet. I wonder if Alan is afraid of what some might say.

Which is why yesterday, I posted that he should seek to get Tamara Tunie on sooner rather than later as it's becoming quite noticeable.

I've been around Tamara socially twice over the past 5 years and had in-depth conversations with her. She doesn't seem to recall her time at ATWT very fondly. It wasn't necessarily her decision to leave the show. I've gotten the impression she wants to put that show behind her. So she may not be amenable to doing one of these reunions.

It wouldn't surprise me if the way the show treated her in her last years left a bad taste in her mouth. She's done livestreams with other organizations and panels over the past two months or so, she doesn't seem to have an issue with the platform.  Nothing would surprise me.  Daytime doesn't have that great of a track record with black actors.

    • He definitely got lost in the shuffle last year. First, they were implying that he was Drew’s son, then he was nothing more than just Violet’s bff

And then they changed him to being Dante and Brook Lynn’s son, which was clunky at first but I’m enjoying the storyline now.
    • GM is adorable, charming and fun onscreen despite months of nothing to do until recently, and has a bodacious bod. I'm not cosigning the show or this story - I haven't watched a full episode in over a month - but I think we're all taking the small victories in 2025 at this point. I'm open to testing this theory!
    • I think Jason might've posted some numbers for the syndication a while ago and the numbers for Falcon Crest was horrible. Like 1.5 rating or something, which was terrible.    ETA: it was actually Paul Raven:   New to syndication 60 min Fall Guy 67 markets 3.1/8 Falcon Crest 110 markets 1.1/5 To get into the top 40, you needed a 4.6/9 rating for reference - and Falcon Crest managed to get into a lot of markets to begin with. In the fall of 1985 Dynasty, Dallas and Knots were syndicated (show / rating / share / coverage % / markets): Dallas 3.4 10 51.7 92 Dynasty 3.4 10 48.7 47  Knots Landing 3.3 10 12.5 20  So, Knots as an example trippled Falcon Crest's rating with 20 markets - I'm sure those were major ones but it just goes to show you how much Falcon Crest bombed in syndication.
    • It's not bad but the stories move too slow. It's the same problem when Dan O'Connor was CO-HW with Van Etten, they have a million stories and they all drag on endlessly with no resolution. I'd argue the majority of the stories airing now are good but you get sick of waiting months for something to happen.
    • Thanks. I must have missed that period entirely for Lifetime.
    • Thanks. I know Marland did that type of thing sometimes but it's less likely with these characters. I don't even remember Alex ever mentioning him.
    • French fan summary Rusty took over Simon's job at Lewis Trucking after Simon transferred to Lewis Oil's North Carolina office to live near Jessie and Calla. I doubt they would bother following up a story for offscreen characters eg marriage and a baby.
    • I suspected that the performance with the reveal was the reason why the Ted actor got the axe and it looks like I was right. He wasn't really good at conveying what needed to be conveyed in those scenes. Claybon is at least slowly improving (but I agree that he still needs to work on his line delivery), but I do wonder what will happen when his big reveal is coming up.
    • I've already asked this before, recently, but can anyone who watched those years more closely tell me if anything said about Jessie and Simon at the end of their profiles is accurate (about them marrying, naming a baby after Brandon/Lujack, etc.)?
