From what I understand, Mr. Peepers' wedding was like the equivalent of Joe and Rhoda's wedding.  It was a HUGE event that people stayed home to watch.

I had no idea she appeared on ATWT, though.  RIP.

A few pages back we were talking about when Lisa and Barbara partnered for Fashions and when Barbara had Simply Barbara vs. Barbara Ryan Originals.

I came across this episode from 1982 and Lisa answers the phone as 'Fashions Limited'.  It looks like Dee and Ariel worked there.  I'm not sure if Barbara was even involved in the boutique yet, she was too busy being involved in that convoluted story where she kept having visions of the man who would turn out to be Gunnar.  She does look beautiful here though.  Someone put a LOT of makeup on Ariel!

EDT:  Okay Barbara was involved, maybe she was partners with Lisa back then but she seems fairly removed from the day to day in this episode.  You have to excuse me, I was only in the 2nd grade when this episode came out so, I only have vague memories of some of these characters.

From the episodes in 1982, I decided to look up the names of writing staff that were unfamiliar to me and came across a name-- Jean Rouverol.  Doing a quick search I see that she died just last year at the age of 100.

As an actress, she had just started her career as a screenwriter when she was blacklisted.  She had quite an interesting biography.

Has she been mentioned in any threads before?  She wrote a book called Writing for the Soaps.  I did a quick search on this site but her name didn't come up.  Since she wrote a book on soaps, perhaps someone here has read it?

EVERYONE had shadows on their faces..Jeff got it the worst...it was like the light over his head went out.  For Bunim and the Dobs wanting to make the show "youthfull" it is incredibly slow, dark, and depressing...the scene with Dee and David, which should have been heartfelt came off an slow and ponderous...and then there is no follow up in the scenes at Fashion...(at least have Lisa say, "What's wrong" and when she finds out the Stewarts are divorcing have a bit of a smirk...(an ode to Elle and Lisa's fued.)  The scene of Annie and Jeff are supposed to be romantic comedy I think but it just is flat...

I do like the Lisa/Ariel scene...its like a Designing Women scene

I was wondering if David was being played as having prodromal symptoms of his stroke because he cannot seem to recall his lines.

Why was Fashions having such a boost in their sales?  I laughed when Lisa answers the phone call from Vermont and asks if they want to pay by cash.  Who knew Fashions Lmt was the prototype for Fashion Nova?

Catalog sales, can you believe it??

I believe Dee mentioned this to Barbara when they met in this episode.  I guess they all put together a fancy photo spread done in a layout in a catalog and distributed to buyers and maybe the well-heeled.  Perahaps Lisa and Dee and Ariel were heralding the achievement of reaching customers well beyond Oakdale.

Come to think of it, it would have been interesting if Fashions and BRO did something to this effect with the Internet in the late 90s/early '00s.  Were there any scenes or storylines that dealt with the emergence of technology and its effect on businesses like Barbara's or Lisa's?  Or even Lucinda's?

(I remember seeing Craig learning how to use a computer when he started working for Lucinda, that was around 1984 and it struck me as probably one of the earliest uses of a computer that I'd seen on a daytime soap).

    • Oh good and now Naomi is here!  Phew.
    • LOL...Eva turned into a Karen and told them to get this crazy bush!
    • I can see the need for a Ted recast *ducks*.  He doesn't seem that concerned. This is fun though!  Ok at least they show Vanessa in the hospital and not just randomly missing (like Kat was at the last party). Vanessa's roots are really showing today!

    • What I wouldn't give to have any of Jordan's run as Tim surface.  I wish there was more of early '81 online. It would be fascinating to see Alan/Rita play out. I guess I'm too set in my ways...I'd be horrified at a Van/Alan marriage. Not that it wouldn't have been great to see more of Chris Bernau with Maeve.
    • This leads to one of my favorite scenes ever...I won't spoil it but it is a very clever meta moment unmasking Brent to the cops...(it may have happened.) Also you already saw one of my favorite lines..."You, you think I'm a LESBIAN???" even crazy Brent is shocked that Lucy is that dumb, and only crazy Brent would be pissed at being mistaken for gay instead of being a psychotic rapist /killer.   Hate that scene, made both adult women look like morons. Amanda is way too subtle for that, I could see her egging emotional Blake into doing that and making a fool of herself in front of everyone. The whole story would have been more fun if Amanda was manipulating Blake to look like the Blake of old.   One of McLaiby's biggest mistakes is what they do to Bridget, who grew up since having Peter and loosing Maureen and running a business.I remember Liabson saying in the press..."The Bridget we know is back" but that was over, and being more adult does not mean you have to be boring..she was even less feisty here, she just looks pathetic.    This story is so gross... and too bad too, cause Griffin is sexy as hell. I can see Viv getting steamed on him but....   There is a spectrum of sexuality that some people can go in and out of, depending on special people they may find attractive...and we can leave it at that. I never trust the long distance girlfriend boyfriend but I hope he is happy and settled. I would have HATED the Abby storyline. He raped and killed too many people to be "reformed," and to have anyone in SF accept him or trust him after that would make them look like morons.
    • Eva convinced Nicole to have the party -- due to Leslie/Dana's insistence that there be a party when they do their planned dramatic reveal. They haven't specified which anniversary it is for Ted and Nicole. How many years have they been married?  It's not 10, 20, 25, 30 or some specific number that you'd celebrate. Kat pointed out that there was no plan for a party until Eva instigated it, which indicates to me that it's some odd number of years.
    • Why is Billy such a wet rag in every scene he's in? Isn't he the same man responsible for the disastrous Chancellor Remodel back in 2016?
    • Okay, after reflecting on Mucas overnight, I suggest we cut to the chase & call them  SNOT You have to admit that it would be different!
