You beat me to it. He deserved an Academy Award nomination (and did not get one). Star 80 is one bleak and effective film. Mainly because of Eric.

A couple pages back I mentioned that The Pope of Greenwich Village and Star 80 are two of my favorite movies and pretty much all because of Eric (and of COURSE Mickey Rourke and Geraldine Page in Pope, Mariel and her gifts in 80). They say Star 80 did more harm than good for his career cause he really sold the creepy (agreed that he was robbed of a BA nom). I miss his early frenetic, neurotic (coke infused? ) performances, rent these movies!
