I believe P&G and Rauch wanted to keep Lenz after her teen Reva arc so they dumped Budig for her. Lenz was just 17 at the time she began as Michelle but played early 20's just like when SMG was AMC's Kendall.

The right actress for the role, age be damned

I've always felt that was a mistake too. Especially all the times they kept bringing Alan-Michael back.

As well as Mike Bauer. He should have stayed around in 1997 when he came back for the anniversary.

It didn't quite so much bother me that Hope never came back (though that did bother the hell out of me and still does) as much as whenever they did mention her, she was either back to drinking or in rehab. Just don't mention her at all if you're gonna keep twisting the knife.

abw - Did Elissa indicate that DS was good to her?

Also - I heard around the time that Michelle was recast that RB was "forced" to leave so that JL could take over as Michelle Bauer. I was never certain of its validity, though.

Elissa didn't say, but she also had very nice things to say about Vicky Wyndham, Nancy Addison and Caroline McWilliams - called them all sweethearts and that they were great to work with. As a child actress, working with the likes of the aforementioned women as well as Charita Bauer, Millette Alexander and Fran Myers, many of whom were on the show for many years - what role models to have!! smile.png

I'm glad that there's a large consensus that believes that Hope should've returned to the show. I think she could've filled the role of Bauer matriarch, the "guiding light" of the show like Maureen & Bert previously did. I think had they brought her back around the time Maureen was killed, it could've somewhat softened the blow.

They should have done so, and had her coupled with Ross, who was the patriarch of the show at that time. But the "Blossies," (God I hate couple names) would have gone NUTS. I think Blake got lost as soon as she married Ross...they should have her them split up as the old bad girl (or at least slut) resurfaced. Blake was more fun being a bitch then being a ditz.

Even though I didn't care for Ron Raines' Alan, I would've wanted Hope tossed back in his orbit. After seeing old episodes of Alan & Hope's union (via YouTube), I'd want them to be together. She's clearly the only woman that made Alan want to be a better man even though he always wasn't. I would've loved for Hope's alcoholism to be brought up (as it was the Bauer curse), and for Alan to help her with her struggle and feel some remorse. And Hope should've been at Alan's side with Phillip in the show's final episodes when Alan died.

They should've brought her back.

    • I'm not sure it's as unpopular as you think.  I just think the show knew they were in a bind, and needed a proven couple for the viewers to invest in. Trying to reunite Vanessa and Ross had just failed in 87. I don't think Ed and Holly's affair was well received, as Simon and Garrett had a brother/sister chemistry. Enter Billy and Vanessa, who give you history and an out not to try and do a Josh/Reva/Billy triangle, which would've really wrecked the relationship between Josh and Billy. I'd have been ok with trying Vanessa/Ross again, and doing a Vanessa/Ross/Holly/Billy quad for a while. I hated Nadine. HATED. She had to be the most insufferable also-ran before ATWT's Julia Lindsay.
    • GROSS. Michael Swan was hot back in his ATWT days. Now he's 76 and WAY past his hot years.
    • Since she kidnapped, locked up and tried to kill her father's wife I'd say that is still a pretty big deal
    • I'm good with the gushing, too. There aren't many soap icons like John Black, and that's important to celebrate and remember. And yes, life does go on for other characters, but as they say, timing is everything. Going sky diving the day before the funeral? And during a week of shows that were so powerful emotionally? No.
    • No. There might have been a slight pause for dramatic effect after his "death," but pretty soon after they showed him in France getting plastic surgery and getting involved with his doctor, then planning with her to bring Christina to France. (She thought he had good reason to do it; she wasn't a bad person or anything). Now that I think of it, there must have been some kind of pause before that, during the 70s. Rita was accused of killing a private patient for an inheritance when she lived in Texas. Part of the backstory was that Roger had been there, too. Not sure exactly when or how long that was.
    • I've already stated that I don't like Doug being written as this meek and submissive. It was so lame watching him leave her like that. Vanessa can divorce him, but she then needs to get her thot ass into therapy. She's not only having sex with every guy she runs into, but is now having  sex with a skeevy perv on a poker table. I'm going to give the BTG some credit here. For months, many on this board were delighting in the Vanessa/Joey flirting and what they saw as chemistry. I think we're now seeing what the writers always intended -- that Joey is a disgusting POS wannabe mobster.
    • John Black actually was the ultimate good guy soap hero. So I don’t mind the town gushing over him. It’s deserved.
