Marland departed Guiding Light around September or October 1982. I think St. Croix happened during the summer. The writing shift was fairly noticeable, in my opinion anyway, especially when Pat Falken Smith launched that weird story of the house crashing into the Reardon's boarding house.

I think Beaty's breakdown while portraying Brent/Marion forced him out of the profession -- which is understandable, but also sad, since I think he did some very good work during that period (in spite of the horrendous writing).
