Remember that Night Shift debuted to great numbers too and then lost them over time.

So whether this can be proclaim a success yet comes in the following weeks and see if it can hold onto those numbers. Night Shift as great as it was at times couldn't.

It just proves though that the soaps just are not doing what they should do anymore to reach a wide audience. It sounds like Southern Belles was good in the Demos but it also set records in total audience meaning that it reached out to a wider audience that most of the shows do.

Soaps just don't do that anymore.

I will just overall be glad when this obsession with reality television finally ends. I was sure hoping that it was just a fad but I fear it is here to stay.

Not good and not surprising. I detest reality shows and also thought that they would run out of steam, but they are a virus that keeps spreading. Unfortunately, it does not matter if Southern Belles' ratings decline like Night Shift's ratings because it is so cheap to produce that SoapNet will make some profit. There is so much animosity channeled at Frons, but I think that it is time that we start looking at the real culprits, our family and friends who love to watch these shows. The popularity of reality shows jeopardize prime time serials and will push out the soaps if this continues.

OK, I can kind of accept that, but I cannot force someone to watch something he/she does not like. People have different tastes and there's little one can do. Culprit is a heavy word.

    • I get that @j swift regarding Laura. I think she is just thinking if I never left the island. Its a in the moment thing. if she had done that then there would be lucky & Lu Lu and I doubt she would give them up .   Its just the sadness of it all for her   Thats why I hope Nik isnt dead. Maybe just injured.
    • And it’s amazing how much they covered In only a few short months, Cora died 7/25/84. I would think a story like that would be a 6 month arc
    • Karen Witter.  I liked her Tina Lord  almost as much as Andrea Evans.  Most a yone would've been better than Mrs Ron Moss.
    • Sally started seeing Peter in the first half of 1983, and then Donna was introduced. That led to the reveal of Kevin Thatcher as Sally's son and her engagement to David after Peter dumped her and David's wife died. On a parallel track the same year Blaine's tormentor Alma Rudder was murdered. Blaine and Larry's mother Jeanne had come to town and they (at least Blaine and Clarice) found her very trying. Jeanne was taken ill and Larry found evidence that she had been injured when she fought with Alma and her wound had become fatally infected. On her deathbed she confessed that she had another son, Catlin. He arrived in Bay City under the alias Josh Peterson in early 1984 around the time Blaine and Sandy's son Alex was born.  Catlin and Sally were all the rage for most of 1984. Early 1985 was the Introduction of Brittany and then Mary Page Keller was replaced by Taylor Miller in July 1985. Jake and Victoria were introduced in early 1985.
