I agree that Reinholt would have made a very interesting Alan-especially since he'd be sharing scenes with Beverlee McKinsey. The actress who once played Rachel's nemesis on AW acting alongside the actor who once played one of Rachel's great loves would have been fun to watch.

I never heard that before. Thinking about it now, Reinholt would been the right age range for the character of Alan. Although Christopher Bernau will always be "Alan" to me, I actually think Reinholt could have been a good recast of Alan when Bernau was finally too sick to play him in 1988.

Yea I forget where I read it, might have been an old soap mag article. I agree that even though "Steve Frame" couldn't even take the place of the iconic Bernau, he probably would have been a better choice than Daniel Pilon, or even Ron Raines for that matter.

GR would have been an inspired casting choice. I also agree about Stephen Schnetzer's agelessness. He has to hold the record for the AW actor with the most L&O (any L&O show) appearances. It seems he is in every other L&O, SVU or CI rerun I see!!

Didn't Joel Fabiani play Alan Spaulding for a brief period of time? Daniel Pilon was an awful recast.

On Linda Dano's Facebook page there is a video of her and Stephen Schnetzer when they ran into each other in NYC earlier this week.

Thanks for sharing. That was so cute. I love their friendship both on and offscreen. There will NEVER be a greater soap friendship than Felicia and Cass. They epitomize what friendship should be.

I also loved Kathleen, Dee, Lily and Wallingford in scenes with Felicia and Cass. Pure magic.

Totally agree about Felicia and Cass - proof that a man and woman can be just friends, and the best of friends at that (though the characters did start out as lovers). It's also great that LD and SS have still remained good friends after all these years.

Yes! Another World always excelled at male/female friendships. Well friendships in general. I just miss this show....

I'm sure all the daytime press would have reported such an offer by Rauch to Reinholt, but there was never any mention of such a thing.

AW was actually lucky with the Steven Frame recast. David Canary was a fine actor, and had a strong screen presence, so I could understand why they chose him. Far less understandable is why the show kept choosing such atrocious actresses in the role of Alice. Susan Harney was at least adequate, but Vana Tribbey was too vapid and sexual, Wesley Pfenning was stiff and wooden, and Linda Borgenson had no depth or chemistry with anyone. These recasts were as bad as they could get.

I would say I would have to disagree on the Steve Frame recast. Canary was terrible and just NOT Steve Frame. You are indeed correct with the misery of recasts of Alice Frame. Susan Harney was really the Alice I remember as a kid and did enjoy but none of them were anything like J Courtney. It is a shame once they bout Jackie back on the 3 occasions since she was fired in 75 they just did not keep her on the show indefinetely. I will note, on Lemay and Rauch's defense, Courtney was not that great of actress in the early days (watching old episodes) but thought was she was so genuine on her returns

Its interesting to read the outlines on the another world site from the first few years regarding Alice.

Even though she was a background character for the first three or years of the show. The show wisely still incorporated the experiences her older sister pat had to develop Alice. Alice being unable to emotionally committed to either her first boyfriend and her second boyfriend made perfect sense if you take into account witnessing all that pat went through with tom Baxter, the abortion, her killing him and almost going to jail. For Alice...the natural response was to go the opposite extreme and become all about nursing with little to.no time for.men. Rachel was able to take advantage of this fact to snag Steve for awhile.

And it made sense Alice would have a nervous breakdown in 1974...and given the whole fire and aftermath...develop ptsd in 1979.

I think had harney stayed on..the ptsd would have played out and not been forgotten once that brief recast took over. Did the brief recast they to play the ptsd or was it abandoned the moment she took over?

I think I made that point in an earlier post which is such bad writing. The minute Harney left and was recast with Pfenning, it was so stupid that all of a sudden, weeks later, her PTSD was GONE
