I've seen some talk that this shouldn't have been close, and Trudeau made it close, but the way so many countries are splintering, I'm not sure I agree. Speaking of that, it looks like there's a push from some in Alberta to try to secede from Canada. I have to wonder who is backing that...

I looked at some of the tweets about Bernie defending Tulsi, and many were incensed that he had waited several days to speak up. She truly does have a cult surrounding her (nothing new for her...). No lessons have been learned from 2016. She and Bernie seem more likely to help Trump than they already did in 2016.

I'm also not that familiar with Bloc Quebecois, the Quebec based party that won 32 seats. If I recall going way back this party was formed temporarily in the early 90'sand was progressive to push for sovereignty. Over the years evolved to become different things. At one time they were pro secession. I am not clear on where they stand now and whether they are still pro secession. I do wonder if they can be tapped on to help form a majority in some sense. The Liberals I believe won 155 seats which is more than was expected. So Trudeau needs to cobble together 15 more seats to gain a majority. And Trudeau also needs to stand by what he committed to. The Canadians for example, led by Trudeau, have been one of the beneficiaries of what's going on in the Amazon. Not the fires but the structured cutting down of the forests for lumber use. Doesn't sound like someone fighting climate change.

I'll have to ask my family about this, some of them are Canadian citizens and reside in Ontario, although a few have very strongly negative feeling about the whole "Quebecois" issue (i.e. secession, not the political party).  I will have to ask about the Alberta factor as well.

From what I understand the other party that the Liberals would need to work with, in order to pass legislation are not conservative so that prospect looks a lot better compared to the possibility of having to work with conservatives.

Hasan Minhaj did a good interview with PM Trudeau some time ago.  It started out playfully but quickly evolved into Minhaj asking some serious questions and chiding Trudeau on environmental issues, which really put Trudeau in the hot seat.

A quick look on Wikipedia, and it seems that Quebec has something of a special status called "Statut particulier", which gives them a status of being a "distinct society", while still being a part of Canada.

Is it just me, or does anyone else think Parliament is just [!@#$%^&*] with Boris at this point?

LOL!  I was thinking the exact same thing, @JaneAusten!  Great minds, lol!

LOL! Yep

I can't believe they voted YES this quickly (I know there is a timing issue) especially with how many times they voted no on May's deal. But I find it hard to believe they would have voted yes while leaving the issue with Northern Ireland so explosive. Or maybe they really just don't care.

    • I like that there are a lot of local performers on this soap and I'm glad they've resisted so far on hiring too many soap performers.   Cady has been awkward on the show thus far and Jon seems to have polarizing as well. I say focus on the local talent and giving those people a job and exposure.. and leave the P & G soap opera performers in the past.
    • Who do you think would be good for the show among the ATWT/GL cast?

about it I think Jan is a fine supporting part for a solid daytime vet (probably someone from the P&G soaps), as opposed to someone from the production location who is clearly cheaper. Which seems to govern some casting. I get the rationale, but I would start going through the ATWT/GL, etc. rolodex myself.
    • I dont mind Jan. She's good in the minor capacity she is used.
    • tbqh I don't care about Jan, I don't care about Ashley and I think Jon Lindstrom as Joey is an acquired taste. Jon is a great actor but certain things are in his zone and then some are not. Some days I find Joey credible and compelling, but the stuff with him hanging around the Golden Corral, grumbling about Doug and bitching at Randy is not amazing. If he had material on par with what MVJ wrote for Ryan/Kevin on GH back in the day it'd be a different story. I do think he has real chemistry with Vanessa, which is in large part due to MVJ clearly molding that character (and hiring an appropriate actor) in the Lucy Coe vein when she reinvented Lucy in the '90s as well. But I am not here to spend 6+ months watching Jon glower a lot (which is what he's doing half the time to carry weak story) and make more vague dire pronouncements while Jen Jacob gets flustered and weepy over "Daddy" or whatever would come of that storyline. Putting them together sounds like a recipe for doom to me. But I may be in the minority on that.
    • I know this will never happen. But... Halle Berry as Dani Dupree(BTG). She would rock this role, it's in her wheelhouse.
    • When I see how bad the Ashley/Derek scenes are, I know there must be a larger purpose and Joey being her father is the thing that makes the most sense.  My take on it is that Ashley knows Joey is her father but doesn't know Joey. Maybe he was there when she was a child or just not around at all but I believe Jan when she says she didn't lie to her daughter about who her father was. Maybe she left him when she discovered his dangerous lifestyle.  I do think they could really jump start the character of Ashley if they hurry and do this. Jan is a great character and her scenes with Ashley have been helpful. This would further integrate Ashley into the canvas and give her something dramatic to do. With her working at the hospital along with Doug, it could lead to complications if she learns Doug is involved with her father. I just need is sooner rather than later because Derek is tanking her character. I need a distraction.
