April Ryan  was on CNN earlier saying that we've entered an age where it's not enough to be a politician. Americans now want a rock star and the entertainment that comes from that.  Jesus help us if that's true.

I can't begin to predict how much support Oprah would have.  She has that certain something and as far as I can see white women love her.  I even like her, even though I hate the kind of lifestyle guru thing she has represented at times. "Live your best life".

I have no patience with that kind of thing.

That said,  I would surely take her over the likes of Mark Cuban. Still, it's deeply disturbing to me that we are on the edge of being directly ruled by one billionaire after the next.

I question the empathy of any human being with a billion dollars.  Seriously ask yourself if you could feel comfortable having a billion dollars when there are children starving to death. I think at this point she has no idea how real people live. Remember that road trip she did?

Please. Not another "celebrity".

As a person, I like Oprah. She really is an American success story, overcoming abuse and, let's face it, racial barriers to be one of the most influential women today. But after this nightmare, we need someone with experience to clean up the mess.

And, much loathed as I am to say this, I think Oprah could give us four more years of this because if a white woman being president scares the establishment - and the sexists and racists - no way would a black woman get there without a fight. And I think we could have another 2016, where people vote for the imbecile not because they like him, but because they hate the other candidate more. No, thanks.

For the love of God, there must be a qualified experienced politician out there for the Democrats. Everyone cites his age, but if we can have old Orange Foolius and Reagan, I'd love it if Biden did run.

Mostly I agree with you, but HRC wasn't just any white woman.  She is the subject of a very effective, decades long hit job by the right.

Like you I don't want another celebrity/billionaire.  This cannot be the new normal, although I fear that it is.  It's really stunning to hear people say the same things that qualified Trump

qualifies Oprah. Just because you can make a ton of money does not mean you are qualified to run the government. If Trump didn't teach us that lesson I guess we just can't be taught.

Exactly.  She does so much more good NOW, being what she is, than she would as president.  Plus, unlike Trump, Oprah is savvy enough to know her brand might not necessarily survive four years in the WH.

Plus why give up your freedom and subject yourself to all that scrutiny? There are so many reasons for a person in her position not to though. I'd be damned if I'd put up with people's bullsh*t if I were her.

Also, would she divest herself of her empire? I wonder if one of 45's lasting legacies is that presidents will no longer feel the need to rid themselves of all those conflicts of interest.

YES.  The GOP has the Koch brothers and the Mercers on THEIR side.  Why not have some heavy-hitters (no pun intended) with deep pockets on the OTHER side?  You fight money WITH money.

    • I just finished the Locher Room Texas reunion.  I really enjoyed it.  I love that the actors have such fond memories of the time they spent working on Texas and with each other.  It is really special and unique.  Kin was being Kin.  He was moving the camera around or he was constantly moving, at one point he is completely in the dark, then you can't hear him.  lol.  He is like a hyper child.
    • They were always meant to be short-term, I think - at least Mick and Lou.
    • No it's alphabetical between the two openings - the A-whatever is opening 1 and whatever-Z is opening 2. So in theory, if his last name started with an A, he'd be first in opening 1 and they would have had to remove Maurice (who was in opening 2), which requires edits to both. Unless I'm going crazy haha

    • All depends, really. Whichever opening had Johnson would have had to change; it's not like he was in both openings.
    • Well, it's alphabetical, so they got lucky with the actor's name fitting into place like that. Otherwise, if they stayed alphabetical, they could have had to change both.
    • To their credit, the new writers are clever to stick to current events from the time they were taping, versus trying to predict current events at the time the episode airs.  Case in point, Susan and questionable choice to hop on a cruise two days after her son was shot, and the case remains unsolved, so her remains at risk...

Although cruises around the world are not uncommon for Salem citizens like Julie, it seemed like the type of reference DOOL continues to like dropping into scripts for humor. Also, help me understand the Marlena and EJ interaction.  Didn't they come to a mutual détente earlier in the week?  I felt gaslighted, but I could've just as easily misunderstood Marlena's earlier talk to Belle, and then EJ. And is Bo in Boston (near Ceara) or Greece (where he was transferred after he was shot)?  I bet it is expensive to fly a coma patient transatlantically!
    • It was one of the bigger disappointments that Sarah wasn't part of the book.
    • They clearly loved her offcamera. I wish I could appreciate her work more, but...I don't. Thanks for telling me what Levin said at the end. I still don't think Carney was bad, but I guess he would always see them as not shining compared to Kate.
    • Around 2002, when I would have killed Alan, I'd bring back Amanda, who would have a love/hate relationship with Philip mirroring Alan and Alex, I'd have a proper Alex recast, I might bring back Alan-Michael (and maybe Hope or Mike on recurring), and I'd bring in a long-lost son for Philip who would be around his late teens or early twenties.  I agree that Philip would still need a rival. That's where giving Roger another long-lost kid (not Sebastian) could have worked in this timeframe.
    • @ranger1rg @DemetriKaneI was sure I was swimming upstream alone on this. I get that they are all proud to be Duprees, but the writers are just overplaying it. Ted's an ass, but presumably, he's been a model husband for the last 25 (?) years...but he just isn't good enough (or can handle or whatever..) a Dupree woman? *cough* I guess the next "shocker" is whatever Vernon and Anita's secret is. I hope it's something a little more original than him cheating on Anita.
