Well, I had always heard that Edge of Night, or EON, was different from other soaps, what with the focus on mysteries and its popularity with males. So I've been checking it out, and I am truly hooked. I usually watch two or three an evening, as they only run for twenty minutes. Right now, Draper Scott/Kirk Michaels has amnesia and is recovering in the bed of Emily Gault while back in town, Raven Swift is trying desperately to get her child back. From what I understand, what I'm watching first aired in the spring of 1980. Although there is a little too much repetition for my liking (which I probably wouldn't mind if I weren't watching back-to-back, but day-to-day), I have thoroughly enjoyed the Mansion of the Damned and the train wreck. Looking forward to what I think will be something about a carousel, as Crazy-Dream April (as I've come to know her) has been tossing and turning in her sleep again. B)

They went against Somerset at 4 at ABC So they were really talking out of the sides of their mouths on this bit about P&G soaps competing

The Edge of Night on ABC and Somerset on NBC was the very first time that two soap operas both owned by Procter and Gamble aired opposite each other.    Plus, Somerset was also airing at noon (Cental Time) on NBC.

When did ATWT and AW start airing opposite each other? Texas aired opposite GL, right?

Wow. I bid on it but someone got higher. But it’s such a big book of that time I loved. I would really love to get my hands on a copy

Um, why just those four years?  I'd be much more interested in a book that covered the show's entire run and its' overall impact on daytime (and why a show like EON would totally work in modern times).

In 1980 after they ended the ill-fated 90 minute version of Another World and moved it from 2:30 Eastern to 2:00 and begat Texas running at 3.  The Young and the Restless expanded to 1 hour around the same time airing at 1-2 pushing ATWT to 2-3 opposite AW and Guuding Light 3-4 opposite Texas

I’m still saying CBS claimed they couldn’t move EON to 3,3:30, or I suppose 4 because it would compete against P and G s Another Would and Somerset breaking the sponsors no compete rule

However ABC didn’t seem to have a problem not complying with P&Gs rule

I know that I have seen two books based on All My Children and at least one based on One Life to Live.   It seems as though I heard that was a book based on Search for Tomorrow, but I am not sure.
