I don't mind Justin Deas when he provides a subtle performance and isn't chewing scenery. From what little I've seen on RH and ATWT, he was a solid actor. He had great comedic timing during his time on SB. It wasn't until GL where I couldn't take him as Buzz. I think that the fact he was brought in and Ellen Parker (Maureen) was tossed out tarnishes him for me too. However, the Buzz character had his moments on GL where I enjoyed him. When he was opposite Jenna and Nadine, he was fine. After the 2 of them were killed, Buzz could've been killed off GL too. Going into the new millennium, we did not need Buzz. I feel like he could've been written off with Jenna when she was killed off. They could've implanted him in the car with Jeffery and Jenna. I would've been fine with it at that point. Plus, Harley and Frank didn't really need parental figures. They were well established by then, and the 2 character were established before their parents started popping up on the show back in the late 80s.

I do agree that he has stellar chemistry with Robin Mattson. It seems after Keith left the show that Gina somewhat was lost in the shuffle, and the writers had no idea what to do with her the final years of the show.

Oh I don't disagree re: Buzz. He could be hammy, no doubt. But when he's on, there are few actors who are better. (I gotta say I wasn't a Buzz/Jenna fan, but GL was becoming so terrible around that time, and they really dulled Jenna's early edge to force that pairing.) I had very little use for the Coopers except Harley after they killed off Nadine.

Weirdly, I have only enjoyed Robin in the clips I've seen of her as Gina. Haaaated her as Janet, and I couldn't be bothered with Heather (her early GH years pre-dated me). But she is so much fun as Gina, and she and JD had such snap as a couple.

I didn't mind RM as Janet. I just felt that Janet long overstayed her welcome given the long list of crimes she committed. I found it unbelievable she'd be able to walk the streets of Pine Valley given her wrap sheet. I did appreciate that the character did use to give hell to Trevor--a character I could not stand.

I do think that the roles that defined RM and JD will be their roles on SB. Again, it just sucks (from what I've seen) that the writers lost passion for Gina after Keith left.

I think Gina was almost a victim of her own success as part of "Keith and Gina". But then, on SB, that could be true of any of the pairings. I mean, consider Julia. She had flings before Mason and tried to move on after she divorced Mason, but "Mason and Julia" endured, leading to marriage #2.

And we saw just how off track Cruz got post "Cruz and Eden". (In both cases, however, it can maybe be defended as being the latter twilight half of the show, and the better writers had departed.)

But back to Gina, same thing. Once Keith left, Gina floundered. And, unlike with Mason, who was successfully recast, John Novak as Keith bombed during a Round 2 with Gina and everyone else, so it just became "throw something at the wall and see if it sticks".

And not much did until Lionel. And even that, IMO, was less about success than giving both Nic Coster and Robin Mattson something to do with both Keith and Augusta out of the picture. (Lord knows Jack Wagner's iteration of Warren seemed to cast Lionel aside with the "reveal" (in the show's last gasp desperate days) that Warren was not Lionel's bio son, all so Crazy Cassie could be with him...and he went for Angela, instead. So, a waste for no reason.

Not to my knowledge, but Kelly was kidnapped by her ex-fiance, Peter Flint, on her honeymoon with Joe Perkins. He was seriously mentally unhinged and forced Kelly to have sex with him. She was sickened and guilt-ridden, due to being married by then to Joe. It was a gruesome part of the story, and an aspect they (and the audience) could have done without.

When the Dobsons were locked out of SB and especially when they returned in '91, Bridget Dobson complained repeatedly that SB had become "too violent." Truth is, it was always a violent show. Of course, it was also a genuinely funny show -- not cute or amusing but often funny -- especially when the Dobsons were away.

I agree that it was often funny.  I also contend that modern audiences would find most of the show to be anachronistic.  However, Eden's sexual assault is such an interesting media study because the production was so earnest in trying to be socially responsible and yet was so tone deaf at the same time.

One last aside, I find it amusing that once JAN's Warren decides to buy the newspaper he instantly starts dressing like a proper journalist with plaid shirts and a tweed jacket.

No matter the material I always enjoy watching Julia in these episodes. She was such a unique character - one of the few times that such overly aware, sardonic types work over a long period of time without being irritating. I think SB is one of the only soaps that could have pulled this off.

It is a shame that guys like Lane Davis and Terry Lester didn't have more fun during their time as soap actors.  They complained about soap fans, writers and producers usually communicating that they felt disrespected.  However, there has never been another time when soaps were as creative, profitable, or popular as they were during Terry or Lane's time and so their respective lack of support/respect for daytime seems such a silly choice in hindsight.   It just proves that you never know when what will be the good old days are now.

    • On the other hand, I still find episodes of TV with people smoking in front of babies shocks me into nervous giggles.
    • Word of advice... you have to view the show without the 2025 lenses.. which means you need to 86 the misandry.
    • i love reading other posters alternate takes and scenarios. Yours would have really upped the tension.
    • Amanda is not my cup of tea. That's all I'm gonna say. She's repetitive and childish. She acts like a brat with her parents and has this constant "I'm not satisfied or happy" look on her face. The actress is okay in my opinion. I'm not impressed by anything I've seen her do so far. But she's okay.  BUT Amanda's repetitive scenes with Sam are the ones that I want to fast-forward the most. They just have 2  topics they like to talk about... and it's always "You are infringing on my right to be a powerful career woman! I need to be outside dating men for a job, so I can WORK and prove I'M NOT A RICH GIRL ONLY!" and he's like "You and your family are buying me a career and I don't want it! I WANT TO BE ABLE TO STRUGGLE and be poor and you guys ARE denying me the opportunity by giving it all on a silver platter" This is their main storyline for me... and it's just annoying when it's the same every single episode. It's a fake struggle that I don't buy. These people are so spoiled by this point and have everything... don't make me suffer listening to them bicker how amazing their life is, so they are unhappy about that. Just a personal view. I'm not saying THIS IS the situation. My view is also restricted, since I'm only 4-5 months into the episodes.
    • It's shocking to see Steffy look down on anyone. She was the new generation HO for years. I mean... she was nasty and using sex to seduce married-engaged-in-relationship-men all the time. She was embracing it fully. Bradley was accenting on the fact that Taylor's daughter had become Brooke 2. I remember how disgusting it was when she was using Hope's virginity to her advantage and offering to f-ck the guys that wanted Hope. It was ABSURDLY nasty.  Then couple of years ago Bradley decided we should forget about it and made Steffy BECOME her grandmother. IN AN INSTANT. There was no build up to it. Which aged the f-ck out the character and made her unbearable. Because it's one thing to see an actual matriarch, older woman doing these things, being a moral judge... but it's complete joke to see the ex-ho acting like this. Ex-ho that is still incredibly young and has no right acting like she is better that anyone or... a moral JUDGE. Steffy and Hope's personalities got swapped!!! That's the irony of it. So any time these gang-style of fans come attacking Hope... for acting like a "slut"... I pinch myself - their HEROINE Steffy was doing this HARCORE. Are these people oblivious or just pretending not to remember. How can you stan a moral judge... that attacks "sluts" and also stan the same type of behavior you are attacking... years ago. How does this happen. But I repeat myself at this point.  I agree with everything you said 100000 percent. It's the truth. At least in my eyes.
    • The Amanda pregnancy was a blunder. Amanda and Sam were AW's best bet for a starcrossed supercouple. Young love destined to be turn apart by outside forces and misunderstandings . Battling for years to finally get together. Instead AW had them married and pregnant within a year.
    • It is his fatal flaw.  He's smart, cute, and loyal.  But, a total chauvinist pig.  We're looking through a 2025 lens, but April's from a wealthy family, (that she recently met), she should be allowed to contribute to her own home. Especially if Draper is going to work for the Crime Commission, rather than joining Mike's private law firm (did I get that part correct?) How about smoking while the baby is in the room?  It all looks nuts by current standards. Raven was married to Geraldine's son Kevin, but had an affair with Logan (whom Geraldine also considered like a son). Raven got pregnant by Logan, then Kevin died (long story short).  The part you need to know is that Raven was bored being a mother to Jamey (check out my member name).  So, she starts going out to Elliott's club and leaving Jamey with April.  Logan is not happy that Raven keeps leaving their baby all around town.  And thus, Geraldine is not pleased with Raven either. Draper and Logan are frequently rivals in the courtroom.  FYI --- Draper is also Raven's step-brother (her mother married his father). Raven's real name is Charlotte. But, one day [she] was sitting on the lawn and saw this beautiful black bird with shiny wings fly by. [She] wanted to be that bird. So beautiful. So free. With beautiful black wings…"    @chrisml you'll hear that story soon, and I envy you getting to see it the first time.
    • There is a time... till the old storyline is cleaning up... where it's still kinda annoying. For me it was. That's a personal opinion. But in 10-20 episodes more... you'll find yourself enthralled. It's not even begun. I'm so glad to hear your reviews! And excited of what's to come for you!
    • Carly also has Nikki (Nicholas) with Lawrence. The easiest way to remember Chelsea is to think about how she was buried, stillborn, premature in a swamp and came back to life.  Or you can just remember her running over Bo/Hope's kid Zack.  Kind of ballsy to name her kid Issac if you ask me lol.
    • That's right Anita! Let her have it!
