Opleka played Thiem in Madrid last year or the year before and took him to three by just acing him...although Madrid plays faster and the match was on outside court...funny that opelka got injured during the match. Yes Cilic is tough...third round is either Ruud or Tommy Paul again...4th round Stan, Murray or Felix again with his easiest match could be in the Quarter...I don't see monfils doing much.

I shouldn't complain. He's made both major finals and won one and should've won Australia. After this sh!tty year it was nice to have something to smile about.

Btw...even though I hoped he would've won the French the two years and Australia....I always wanted him to win the Open first. I remember an interview he gave a few years back on how he loved playing in NY. It finally shut up the tennis media. Looking at you Brad Gilbert....LMAO

I never even knew there were different balls for different surfaces.  I remember when Wimbledon used white balls and got rid of them because when the grass stained them they blended in with the court.

Oh, and I meant to say my post above - the interview with Patty Smyth and John McEnroe was really interesting.  They did "He said She Said" and asked them question and it was very surprising to me.  They asked who was the bigger hot head.  Patty pointed at herself and John pointed at her without looking over.  She said he is not the person you saw on the Tennis court.  Who cries during a sad movie?  Patty pointed at herself and John pointed at her but Patty said, but he does cry on rare occasions during a movie.  After a fight, who is most likely to initiate 'making up'.  Patty pointed at John and he pointed to himself.  He said I just don't like fighting and our relationship is more important than an argument.

I was very surprised.  He said we're empty nesters now and we're all we've got day to day.

Not only that but there are different balls for men and different balls for women.

If you think about the four Grand Slams alone, each has a different climate, three of four have different surfaces, the balls shouldn't be exactly the same.

One of mt biggest concerns and pet peeves is the deliberate slowing of the courts over the last decade-- that and the balls has caused an alarm number of seemingly chronic injuries, and the elbow seems to be chief among these injuries in recent years.

Rafa said just today that players could get injured with the tennis balls being used this year at the French Open. It's the Wilson heavy duty ones they are using.

My favorite tennis ball to use was the lightweight Wilson tennis ball.

Verdasco can't play yet Paire test positive again and is still in the draw....fishy

From their perspective, the spectators who show up will likely be local people, due to travel restrictions, so I can't really quibble about that. RG is clearly trying to cater to the French spectators whose butts will be in the seats. Also, the French, perhaps more than any other nation, truly have a strong affinity for their hometown players.

Personally, I don't know how much of my attention this tournament will get. The U.S. Open got a fraction of my attention, compared to what it usually gets. Osaka's masked march to the title was one of the only aspects that held my attention.

1000 fans after all and regional fox sports will also have coverage of the French Open. I just checked and it's 4 hours of coverage a day.

Novak and Thiem practicing now on center court.

I haven't seen Thiem smile this much since the last denture swap at shady pines

From what I understand, tournament directors tailor court assignments more for ticket buyers than for television viewers. RG hasn't been as much of a priority on American television since leaving network. The FFT likely gets more money from its own country than it does from the U.S. which has a somewhat diminished presence these days compared to what it used to be.

Regional Fox Sports network doesn't have the type of influence that NBC once did. Eurosport likely has more influence than Fox Sports now and French players are still exceedingly popular, even Chardy, lol, whose wedding and baby's birth photos were all over European sports news blogs.

    • What an hour of soap opera television. -- It doesn't get much better than this. Every actor delivered in every storyline. There's so much blame to be placed on so many characters for their mistakes, yet it's impossible not to sympathize with them. -- When Tracy looked at Gio after hearing the news about Dante and Brook Lynn, iT was just another example of the excellence of Jane Eliott. All it took was one look to make an already good Giovanni Mazza even better. -- My heart broke for Gio, but you have to feel heartbreak for Brook Lynn and Dante, too, unless you have ice in your veins. -- Cody's understanding and sympathy for everyone was real and sincere. Lulu was into her "Well, maybe in the long run this will all be better," but Cody understood that part of Lulu's reaction was a defense. She made mistakes, but she never wanted to hurt anyone. -- Neither did Lois, who's going to get it from all sides and take the brunt of the blame. I don't think she'll get any relief from Ned. Rena Sofer has been great at expressing her pain. -- Rory Gibson is off to a good start as Michael, and is expressing more emotion than he did in his entire run at Y&R. -- I didn't mind the Trina and Kai "first time" scenes. Those scenes were well-acted and nicely directed, and some goodness was needed in a show with so much heaviness. GH is on a really good run, and every day has been must-see TV.
    • There's something about the attachment you feel when you hear the theme music. I know some people love the Leaves opening (which is called something like Ritonelle...it's mainly strings) that ran during the Dobson era. The disco opening just feels foreign to me--like they tried to replicate nighttime drama openings (to my mind, Hawaii 5-0) and didn't understand that Mike holding a gun on someone or Nola screaming wasn't representative of what the show was about. The first ATWT character one has a white background that's harsh looking. They changed the backing colors a couple of times, but they used that damn shot of Carly for like three years. Later, like '05-06 maybe, there was a silly one that made it look like the characters were emerging from fields of something, that made my eyes roll right out of my head. It never got as bad as GL's "hands" opening, which is better forgotten. The BTG one convinces me there are different people in the roles, but I still have to think---"who is that now?"
    • 30 minutes in and...is there any Tracy that I dislike? lol. Cuz I love Traci on Y&R, Tracy on GH, and now Tracy on this show. She is reading the heck out of Anita so far. And sorry...Anita is not keeping up (though I am loving TT's performance). This is what I was expecting from Silk Press Sheila, but nope. But this comes of someone that truly knows someone. Loving it.   But I liking all the conversations so far today. Smitty and Martin especially. A gay couple having it out. And knowing that due to the development in Month 2 and the actors getting comfortable with their roles, I feel invested.    Not Kat pulling a Blair again on Chelesa. lol.     Same. I can avoid major spoilers for a day.

    • Yes.  I won't be able to articulate this correctly, but Tracy's delivery to Gio was almost clunky and perfect.  Gio didn't really understand how important her parents and their legacy is to her.  It was so Tracy.   Also, if I knew I was related to Lila I would immediately just sit in her rose garden and make vases and vases of beautiful roses lol
    • @j swift, that's Audrey Ames, played by Fia Porter. She was one of the actresses on Fraternity Row. https://www.oocities.org/historypg/oltl1989.html ETA: "Dorian's Fountain" would make an excellent pseudonym.
    • I got a new Robo-mop/vac today and I named it Dustin' Kiriakis.  And, it is connected through my home network, ISA Headquarters. The episode felt like treading water. Not much happened.  But, it confirmed @carolineg's time/space theory, that sometimes when characters aren't on screen time stops for them, and we go back in time to catch up with them.  Other times, they have been living the boring parts of their lives, and we catch them as they are at the moment. For example, Johnny, Tate, and Ari are all stuck back in the morning after John's accident.  But, Marlena, and John's kids are already in the afternoon of the same day. Also, I'm not janea4old, or Jason47, in that I can't tell when this episode was filmed.  But, I know airplanes were grounded in Italy on July 5, 2024, due to ashes from Mount Etna.  Ron retired immediately, starting 7/19/24.  So, it lines up with the new writers.
    • Yes she does but I get Lois and her reasons. I see everyone's side
    • I think you meant siblings, as they aren't twins.  It was established in episode #2 that Tyrell is 17 and Samantha is 16.

I was watching the 28:44 edit of All the Tour Llandview Openings from 1984-1991 (which I assume is most of the Rauch era). Any way, I could name 95% of the characters (or I knew what story they were a part of).  But, who's this? I attached the link, but be warned, that theme song is an earworm (here's where ya go when it looks like the rain won't).

    • I welled up, definitely. She got me with that one; it's only a shame these writers cannot bring this on a more consistent basis.
