Hey, new to the boards...just had a question. Does anyone know how the new prominence of THE VIEW will impact the future of ABC Daytime? Ever since Rosie got hired and Star Jones got canned, it seems the show has been in the news every week. And, last week, with the whole Rosie O'Donnell/Kelly Ripa/Clay Aiken controversy, the show has had more buzz than ever.

The cynic in me thinks the whole ordeal was manufactured--after all, calling Kelly Ripa's actions "homophobic" is a stretch even by crazy Rosie standards. And I can only imagine Fronsie rubbing his hands together maniacally when Kelly called into The View. Two ABC morning shows getting coverage on CNN, causing debate on blogs, exploding onto YouTube, etc.

Manufactured or not, The View has more drama than the soaps combined--and unlike the rest of ABC Daytime, has some cultural weight in the mainstream. With the shocking and seemingly orchestrated collapses of AMC and OLTL over the past few months, could this all be a harbinger of ABC DAYTIME built on THE VIEW, another talk show, maybe a reality soap, and GH? Does anyone have any insight to Frons' vision for the network?

I have to admit, I am on Kelly's side here. I love her. As a gay man, I did not find her comments towards Clay homophobic in the least. Clay was a rude prick to put his hand over her mouth. Stupid ass!

There's a lot of talk of this on OT Loungue. So if you want to talk about that whole thing, you might want to head there. If you want to talk about its effect on daytime...then I think this is the appropriate forum. But...yeah.
