Roger return and Robert Calhoun becoming EP are what got GL to finally hit its stride after some pretty bad years. Unfortunately the ratings did not reflect the improvement in the quality of the show. I will never believe that the tail end of supercouple Days was a better show that Calhoun era GL.

Andre, be still my heart 🥰 Andre called out Bill and put him on blast. Bill looked ready to wipe the floor with Andre.

Was that when Phyllis showed up at the Chancellor house with baby Daniel? Michelle Stafford chose her most memorable moment for the 50th anniversary some scenes from when Phyllis crashed Rex's funeral reception. I remember Phyllis making the rounds and introducing herself as Mrs. Romalotti to the Genoa City elite.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
It cannot be emphasized enough that Angela Lansbury carried CBS primetime on her back through some pretty awful years from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
ABC Thursday had been a dead zone since 1982/83. Full House started slow but it showed growth two seasons later with the launch of TGIF. CBS primetime scripted line up was not looking good heading into 1987/88. Murder, She Wrote still a hit. Dallas, Newhart, Kate & Allie, Falcon Crest, Knots Landing, Simon & Simon; Magnum, P.I.; Cagney & Lacey were aging. The Equalizer not a hit. Only returning new drama Houston Knights. Returning new comedies Designing Women, My Sister Sam, The Cavanaughs. 1987/88 CBS ended Magnum, P.I; Cagney & Lacey, Houston Knights, My Sister Sam, the new dramas that returned were Beauty and the Beast, Jake and the Fatman, Tour of Duty, Wiseguy, and the only new comedy to return was Coming of Age.

Looking back...Primetime Ratings from the 80's
Week of September 28-October 4, 1987 had Moonlighting season 4 premiere and Falcon Crest season 7 premiere. ALF season 2 premiere, Who's the Boss season 4 premiere, Dynasty season 8 premiere, The Cosby Show season 4 premiere, A Different World series premiere, Cheers season 6 premiere, Knots Landing season 9 premiere, Dallas season 11 premiere, Miami Vice season 4 premiere were one week earlier. Night Court season 5 premiere, Growing Pains season 3 premiere, The Golden Girls season 3 premiere; Murder, She Wrote season 4 premiere were two weeks earlier. Family Ties season 6 premiere was three weeks earlier and in a new time slot Sunday 8 pm. L.A. Law season 2 premiere was two weeks away. 1987/88 was not a very good season. Nielsen people meters wreaking havoc, not really any breakout hits, the CBS primetime soaps going off the rails. Yes it was the peak of sitcoms but it also was the start of dramas declining.

Falcon Crest
1985/86 the ratings tanked, going from 10th in 1984/85 to 24th. Clean swept by new episodes of The Cosby Show; Murder, She Wrote; The Golden Girls, Miami Vice. All but three episodes were last among the big four soaps. It's amazing that Falcon Crest made it past this season, but then again CBS didn't have much success with new dramas in 1985/86 (only The Equalizer and The Twilight Zone returned in 1986/87) and their main dramas Dallas, Knots Landing, Simon & Simon; Magnum, P.I.; Cagney & Lacey were also struggling that season so when those factors were considered CBS spared Falcon Crest the chopping block.

Maybe Jermaine Rivers can take his talents to BtG, perhaps as a brother to Bill or Ted.

Pamela Long created the Coopers with Harley, Frank, Pops, Nadine and Nancy Curlee expanded the family with Stavros and Eleni. JFP watch saw the intros of Buzz and Lucy and the Coopers being elevated to a main family. I asked this before but which family expansion/elevation did more damage, Lewis or Cooper?

In 1981 Douglas Marland introduced the Lewis family from Oklahoma that owned an oil company. To me that was influenced by Dallas. Lewis Oil was still around in the 1990s and it was so outdated by then. 1990s Lewis Oil should have diversified into Lewis Energy or Lewis Industries or something like that.
