The Madonna Thread
First of all, I find it amusing that Madge took the time to write what was essentially a breakup letter to a guido who, from the looks of him, can't put two words together without breaking into a sweat. Here's the thing: there was a point when, yes, people thought Nippy was bland and mediocre (not to mention, rhythmless, lol). Whitney's first album was sensational - albeit, with some filler, I'll admit. Overall, though, the song and production choices were, IMO, soulful, yet able to appeal to a wide audience. Her second album, "Whitney," lifted her and her career even higher. By that point, however, Whitney was already becoming more of a product than an artist. No one questioned her vocal ability, but the songs on "Whitney" that weren't hits were garbage; and it seemed like the Arista people were turning her into a glory note factory, which, in turn, made Whitney the butt of many jokes. In fact, I think that's why Whitney waited four or so years before recording again. Musical trends and such needed to change, or else she was gonna go the way of Tiffany and Debbie Gibson. And while I wouldn't list "I'm Your Baby Tonight" among her greatest (or among the greatest albums of the early '90's, or among those of the "New Jack Swing" period), I do think that album, along with her Super Bowl performance, paved the way for "The Bodyguard," which helped her shed, once and for all, and for better and worse, the Clive Davis-imposed image of the goody-two-shoes belter with the kinky wigs, who just wanted to dance with somebody who loved her. Now, as for Sharon Stone.... Look, I don't think I'm ruffling anyone's feathers by saying that neither she nor Madonna has ever been what I would consider to be a master thespian. And yes, I think the case could be made that the two could have swapped roles - Sharon could've taken Madonna's role in "A League of Their Own," for example, and Madonna could've taken Sharon's in "Basic Instinct" - and it wouldn't have made any negative impact on those films whatsoever. Frankly, though, I don't buy Madonna's theory that her explicit sexuality or predilection for pushing all kinds of envelopes in her musical and dance performances has anything at all to do with her outsider status within the film community, or her film career basically being a non-starter. If anything, I think her outrageousness would have enhanced that aspect of her career. But the fact is, Sharon Stone became Sharon Stone by paying her damn dues, working for years on [!@#$%^&*] projects, with terrible scripts and even worse directors and co-stars, that used her body and nothing else; whereas Madonna, God bless her, expected to compete right away with the Meryl Streeps and the Susan Sarandons simply because "Desperately Seeking Susan" was an okay movie and every white teenage girl and gay boy in America was listening to her records and copying her bag lady-goes-clubbing fashions.

All: character may be killed off
Probably because she's already back.

ARTICLE: Find Out Who Steve Burton Will Be Playing on ‘Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem’
Wait, is he saying that DAYS would have to FIRE some of their cast in order to afford Steve Burton? Hmmm. Maybe bringing Stone Cold over to the mother show wouldn't be such a bad idea after all.

And if she's gonna look like she's retired in Miami, then, I say, be a little more Blanche and little less Dorothy or Rose!

DAYS: Actress cast in series regular role
DAYS is way past due for an introduction of new families to keep the show fresh and moving forward.

This country is so sold on the pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps narrative, they forget that many don't even have the bootstraps.

Grace Slick was right: there comes a point when older artists just shouldn't try to compete anymore with the next generation. (Of course, Grace said it less delicately, lol.)

DAYS: Actress cast in series regular role
She'll probably play Ben and Ciara's son, now SORASed into a full-grown daughter.

I don't even know where the accent comes from! Like, is he supposed to be Southern or Boston Brahmin or...?

True. SSH/Julie should have a more youthful-looking wardrobe. But not TOO youthful-looking, if you know what I mean. Otherwise, she's gonna look desperate, lol. They should have written Sonny's wardrobe changes into his storyline. They could have said Sonny became vegan while away, which helped him shed weight and allowed him to improve his wardrobe, lol.

Best/Worst Production Value Periods on Soaps
When did Chip Dox quit/retired/was fired as Production Designer? Because, I think that's when DAYS' overall production aesthetic went into decline. It's one thing not to have the cash for lush sets (or lighting or music or wardrobe) anymore, but Dox gave DAYS its' scenic designs a distinctive look that you didn't see copied on any other show. Now, though, DAYS' sets are so generic and all-purpose, they could work just as well on B&B, GH or even Y&R.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
IIRC, Michelle wanted to convert the lighthouse into some sort of nightclub at some point. And she (or whoever) was gonna call it "Light," or some nonsense, too. The concept behind Conboy's opening wasn't wrong, but the music and production values for it were. But, then again, CAPITOL's opening sequences were pretty underwhelming, too. Ah, yes. I still remember several people online calling it The Maureen Garrett Memorial Baseball Field. Agree.

Amen. Plus, Leann Hunley seems to be the rare actor who isn't afraid to look older (turkey neck and all) on camera. That's darn refreshing.

To me, it just seemed like a lesser version of something I would see at Disneyland. Then again, it's been a long, long, LONG time since I was impressed overall with DAYS' production values, lol.

Best/Worst Production Value Periods on Soaps
Believe it or not, I once snuck onto the SP set while at the NBC studios to watch a taping of "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno." (Don't worry, no one was there that afternoon, lol.). It was...a'ight. Seeing it up close and personal, though, I realized - perhaps, for the very first time - how the television cameras can do wonders for sets, lol.

Missed Couple Pairing Opportunities
Not just on the show, though. I still recall when he co-hosted part of the Daytime Emmys with Susan Lucci and thinking, "Damn, those two are hot together!".

In-person Daytime Emmys set for June 24 on CBS/Paramount+
That's pretty much the only way you'll get folks to watch the Daytime Emmys, now that Susan Lucci's hunt for the Great White Emmy is long over.

And then there are the two Jennifer Hortons: Cady McClain's Jennifer, who looked very chic and age-appropriate; and Melissa Reeves' Jennifer, who looked like a white woman dressing up as Moms Mabley for Halloween.
