(The less I say about that stupid spiral staircase in the '70's and '80's, the better.)

"DiMera Enterprises" still sounds like the goofiest thing ever. When did the DiMeras stop being supervillains and started being business people again? Did Tony legitimize Stefano's empire while I was asleep? I think I understand what you're saying, @Noel. The stakes are just too low now, especially on a show where literally no one ever dies anymore, to take the gunplay even a little bit seriously. Furthermore, when characters draw their guns as often as they do on shows, you, as a viewer, become...I don't know...numb to it somehow. It's like, "Oh, so-and-so just pulled a gun on somebody? Well, I guess it must be Tuesday!". In a way, it reminds me of what Raymond Chandler allegedly once said: when you don't know where to go in your story, just have a man come in with a gun. Meanwhile, the more I think about it, the more I think someone on DAYS should open a dispensary in town. Heck, dispensaries should be present on all the shows today. God knows I see enough of 'em where I live, lol. Nah, that's too out of DAYS' price range. Try Big Lots.

That's true, @te.. I also agree that Jesse Metcalfe was a poor choice to portray Christopher. IMO, he's not even "Hallmark-good," lol.

Now here's an idea for DAYS! Julie gets together with several of the younger Salemites to open a dispensary in Horton Town Square! They could call it "Alice's Edibles"!

Kimberly Foster and Cathy Podewell were appropriate choices for the kind of show that DALLAS had become by the late '80's and early '90's. Andrea Thompson (and Gisele) might have been the worst thing to happen to FC - yes, worse than even Kristian Alfonso, lol.

Most TV show's sets look that way today. It's the Great Wayfairization of American Television. His black t-shirt and leather jacket budget must have been enormous!

So, Mr. "I Need Love" lives to lick his lips another day. Fantastic.

Unfortunately, the remaining shows are afraid of running off the few viewers they still have. They didn't learn from Gloria Monty's example that sometimes you've gotta roll the dice.

Ironically, I remember liking Wanda De Jesus as Santana and thinking she had good chemistry with Jed Allan. That was a bright spot in an otherwise difficult time for SANTA BARBARA.

It boggles my mind to this day, @SoapDope, lol. I truly don't know what the show saw in Galina that they brought her back as a new character after killing her off as Mary Frances. One of my biggest issues with the Lechowicks is how often their casting choices felt lacking. This is true not just on KNOTS LANDING, but on all the primetime shows they worked on: "Homefront," "Second Chances," "Hotel Malibu," "That's Life," "Wild Card," etc. For every Michelle Phillips or Nicollette Sheridan, there were too many Penny Peysers and Melinda Culeas.

I think Cynthia Cidre was afraid that David Jacobs wouldn't allow her to place her own stamp on the characters. Clearly, she didn't want the revival series to be a carbon copy of the original - which is more than fair, I think. After all, twenty years (give or take) had passed between the end of the original series and the start of the revival. Times had changed; and so, too, had our expectations for drama, as well as our general attitude toward wealthy people and people who work in the oil and gas industries. Producing a DALLAS revival set in the present-day but with an '80's approach or mentality would have been disastrous. (Not that I think Jacobs would have wanted the revival series to be stuck in the past. If anything, his criticisms about the revival series stemmed from the fact that it was TOO reliant on J.R., Bobby, Sue Ellen, etc., and not progressive enough for the early 2012's. But I think Cidre was worried - needlessly worried, but worried - that Jacobs would have been overly protective of the original franchise to allow for some re-interpretation.) Still, just because it was no longer the Reagan era, that didn't mean Cidre had to kick the melodrama to the proverbial curb. You can be modern with your storytelling and still give your audience a good, old-fashioned, soapy time, lol. Of course, it's easy for me to say this in MY position, because I'm as far away from the industry as you could get, but I don't think I could take on the task of running a revival of ANY series, iconic or not, unless I was familiar with the original series and, more importantly, I held an affinity for it. You want me to spearhead a KNOTS LANDING revival or reboot? Fantastic! When do I start? But, if you're asking me to do the same for FALCON CREST - well, I'll have to think about that, lol.

TSJ started off pretty well as Todd on OLTL, too. Over time, however, his boredom with the show and with Todd became apparent, and it began affecting his performances, to the point where he was becoming as obnoxious onscreen as his predecessor, Roger Howarth. I hope history doesn't repeat itself here.

Oh, if only Nina had been the one who had committed insider trading, and not Drew and Carly. Exposing her misdeeds and slapping the cuffs on her JUST as she and Sonny are saying their I do's would be so, so good to watch, lol.

Absolutely! I totally agree, @Vee! I should clarify: I'm okay with a storyline (such as a school shooting) that shows how using guns leads to serious, real consequences. I'm NOT okay with people packing heat and shooting at each other just because it'll keep viewers from changing the channel to "Karamo."

I think I'm done with gun scenes, too, but only because of the times we live in. There is nothing to be gained from watching one character pull a gun on one or several people when mass shootings are becoming part of our everyday lives.

It probably isn't, lol, but with so many people so outraged about what's happening to Drew and Carly, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD COMMITTED A CRIME, it wouldn't surprise me if that is where we are headed, lol. In the meantime, Nina just has to make a few more "blunders," so that others could have motives for shooting and/or killing her, too.

IMO, JvD getting a contract, front-burner role on another soap after the way GL had tossed him aside was nothing short of justice. Tried as I might, however, I never could see him as Clint Buchanan, nor could I see him as a romantic partner w/ Erika Slezak. Furthermore, I think OLTL did such a bang-up job (I say sarcastically) in splitting up Clint and Viki that any reconciliation between the two would have felt wrong to me, no matter who was portraying Clint at that time. I agree. The writers' decision to have Ross rape Natalie put Ross into a corner that he never escaped from, despite going to prison for awhile and being on the show for another couple of years. First of all, John would never have cheated on Sharlene, IMO, and certainly not with Felicia. Second, watching that story unfold, I felt like JFP was trying to make viewers see Sharlene as the antagonist in that situation, even though Felicia was the one who had committed adultery with Sharlene's husband! That was foul! I'm glad Anna Holbrook won an Emmy for her work in that storyline, however.
