  1. Josh Swickard makes Jason Thompson look like Drake Hogestyn. IOW, I agree.
  2. Make no mistake: getting older is a bitch. I just hope RM is healthy and happy.
  3. You may have a point, lol.
  4. I wouldn't be surprised if it does. Let's be honest: DAYS was on borrowed time anyway. But NBCU/Peacock might decide renewing the show isn't worth all the headaches this has brought on. And if/when they reach that decision, it will be all Ken Corday's fault, too. Boy, between this and the mess GH has created over Cracker Barrel Jagger, daytime is really going down in flames. Me neither.
  5. It's like Josh Griffith is practically BEGGING to be fired again, lol.
  6. I agree with you both. For sure, if DAYS survives past this, I think many actors will think twice before agreeing to join or rejoin the cast, which, IMO, will shrink their talent pool even further.
  7. This is what happens when you spend more time on the golf course than you do at the show that your parents worked so hard to keep on the air.
  8. I agree. Again, I'm not suggesting I'd want to see exclusively younger writers, because I think that would be a rather ageist attitude to take, and I think there's enough ageism going around in H'wood already. But why can't daytime look and see whether there are any primetime writers out there who might take soaps in new directions as well?
  9. I want daytime written by people who can write, regardless of age, and who have the freedom to write characters and stories as they see fit to write them, too.
  10. Instead of recycling writers, I say bring on some fresh talent. Not necessarily younger writers, but maybe writers who haven't worked in daytime before.
  11. I can't say that I blame him. Money's good, but it's not that good; and if you believe in yourself enough, I think, you can always land another job somewhere else. I just wish PM had landed on a drama series outside of daytime. I think he's much too good now for this industry.
  12. I agree. I would love to have been a fly on the wall during those negotiations. When and how did ABCD/Nathan Varni first approach Patrick Mulcahey? What did they promise to get him to sign on the proverbial dotted line? Were Chris Van Etten and Dan O'Connor blindsided, or did they see their firing coming? And how did/does Frank feel about everything? Is he excited to be working with someone of PM's stature and caliber? Or is he concerned that he might not be able to...cajole him the way he has cajoled his writers in the past? And why did he appear to be so damn out of it on the night of the daytime Emmys!? Again, so many questions, lol!
  13. In the past, Susan Lucci has been somewhat critical of unscripted shows. Remember her comments about "Survivor," for example? Frankly, I was shocked she even agreed to appear on "Dancing with the Stars," lol.
  14. I agree. Patrick Mulcahey might not have total creative control, but given his history, I can't see him being controlled to the same degree that Frank Valentini has controlled all his HW's - at least, not without a fight, lol.
  15. Spending your quiet nights alone with a (former) SOD editor does not make one an expert on all things soap opera. And that's all I'm going to say.
  16. I don't think this writing team understands how crime fiction works.
  17. You know, maybe some of y'all were right? Maybe the network DID look at the shows that were scab-written and realized how much better they were than the ones head-written by Van Etten and O'Connor.
  18. LOVING (or ABCD's promo department) was trying too hard to be hip.
  19. Aaron Spelling never was the type of producer to want to work again with anyone who had caused him too much grief in the past. So, for me, it's quite telling how he was willing to work again with Shannen on "Charmed" after everything that had happened BTS on "90210."
  20. Would anyone know what was happening on OLTL during the week of 7/6-7/10/92?
  21. And who will sleep with anyone (unlike AMC and OLTL, who have much too much self-respect).
  22. If nothing else, I want Mulcahey and Korte to be able to bring back dialogue that reveals character and doesn't just recap the plot for the folks who aren't paying close enough attention. IMO, you shouldn't even need exposition if you're writing for the characters. If the audience is smart, they'll figure out what's going on later.
  23. I agree. WKRP's creator/EP, Hugh Wilson, always maintained that WKRP was not an "8:00 show," where more family-centered shows tended to dominate. CBS, on the other hand, believed that the "Top 40 radio station" premise (and, of course, Loni Anderson) would appeal better to teenagers, so they encouraged Wilson, at least in the beginning, to steer the show away from the kind of character-driven humor that Wilson had envisioned and that MTM shows had been known for, and to do broader, more farcical shows, like the one where WKRP's mascot gets into a bathroom brawl with the mascot from their rival station.
