  1. Is that deal still valid? Also, isn't AOL kind of a new company now since it acquired that Yahoo! (or the shards of what remains of Yahoo!)? AOL is now technically known as Oath, I think.
  2. I can't believe he has to explain this, not once but twice to the media. No wonder players don't want to attend these press conferences.
  3. I'm not into giving Halep any credit where the Romanians are concerned, as I don't believe she's earned it. She's stood on the sidelines while Nastase has insulted and denigrated other women on numerous occasions. The same goes for her relationship to Tiriac. In fact, when asked in press about issues of the values of equal pay for the women, she's demurred, signaling that she believes the men deserve more than the women. I'm surprised that anyone would think that Simona is vocal on anything. I've always seen her to be reluctant to do anything other than offer platitudes and only when pushed.
  4. We might not see either one of them in Cincinnati. Simona complained a lot about having to play so many matches at night and the toll it was taking and as you mentioned @Faulkner Sloane looked emotionally spent and even during the match, her footwork and her legs seemed somewhat dodgy toward the end.
  5. Unsurprising.
  6. Yes!! It definitely was not a $$$ issue from what I've read. They sort of ran into a wall because I gather that the process was painstaking and they had such a small crew working on digitization. Also, it sure seemed as though PGP was never really going to do any heavy lifting where that process was concerned. Someday the technology may come along that could allow them to seamlessly scan and put some sort of replacement sound over the scenes containing popular music. I still think it's worth it to digitize as many episodes as possible until the technology catches up. Of course, they wouldn't be able to release/sell anything but when they have the means to do it, digitizing episodes would be one less step to have to deal with. SoapClassics had been streaming episodes on their own website, so we know it is possible.
  7. Yeah, that's why I mentioned the fact that SoapClassics put out curated selections, rather than trying to sell/stream episodes fully in some type of chronological order. I got the sense that it wasn't an expense issue but a permissions issue from PGP and also, possibly getting enough manpower to do the digital conversion of episodes given how tricky it was to navigate episodes with popular music. I can't really speak of what Sony/Y&R would do, they've got a different system but PGP seemed somewhat amenable where the SoapClassics sets/streaming was concerned, provided they didn't have to actually do anything. Then again, the daytime drama industry complicates everything, I mean everything! We were discussing this in the Holy Grail thread but it seems utterly bizarre that soap archives like scripts are so difficult to access when I could easily access scripts of I Love Lucy and The Dick Van Dyke show. What makes an old Guiding Light script so much more precious than an I Love Lucy script? It's crazy!
  8. Other than music rights (and plain old obstinate thinking), what are the other potential barriers to streaming classic soaps? AcornTV could present a model for a streaming site geared toward a niche audience. At this point, I'm not prepared to predict what could or couldn't work, not in the era where we now have VHS to DVD converters and 3-D printers. It's overwhelming if you only consider soap streaming by sheer volume but if there were curated episode sets, which get gradually built upon, similar to what SoapClassics was doing, the possibilities become a lot more manageable. At this point, I'm not so skeptical about classic soaps finding an audience as I am about soap production companies like PGP putting the time and effort into building a platform that people can believe in--one that's not going to fade away in a few months like anything else soap-related in the past.
  9. That is a very critical point that you raised. It cuts to the heart of why daytime dramas have been failing for the past 15+ years. The soaps still cling to the same old AF social mores, essentially taking teeny tiny baby steps forward only when pushed or desperate or when they're practically off the air. When they do write "groundbreaking" stories, it is couched in poor predictable, yet still timid storytelling. It's as if they want the stories to fail so that they can claim "Hey guys, well, we tried!"
  10. There's an article in the thread that I created about this news in the ABC Primetime Section.
  11. ...but but, just a few days ago, he was insistent that he'd continue on...
  12. People may not realize that Stefanos' mother is Russian. There are some weird 'Alpha Male' dynamics going on between some of the Russian descended male players currently on Tour. Didn't Stefanos have some sort of "testy exchange" with Medvedev awhile back? Then one of of the player's mothers tried to say that both players were actually friends and the families got along?
  13. Yes. One of the reasons why I like Roku. There is still some clumsiness with aspects of their interface but they continually try to improve. Now about North Korea (not a great segue, I know). This photo is somewhat appropriate since Kim is basically catfishing the entire U.S. government right now.
  14. Was that summit supposed to be a success or nah?
  15. People will go easy on Sascha. I mean, it's not like Nick said it, right?
  16. You're welcome. My brother has a Fire stick but he's a Prime member but I'm not.
  17. With the Roku box, there are some live news channels. NewsOn in particular, has a few local news options, depending on where you are.
  18. It absolutely blew my mind when I discovered that the twins and Katy Segal were all sisters, lol. And this opening is so hopelessly '80s, I can't help but love it! And I loved Rags To Riches too.
  19. I'll always remember the chorus of that theme song! Also, IAL was the first show I remember really seeing Sheryl Lee Ralph in. I realize she was on Silver Spoons but for some reason, I didn't associate the two characters with the same actress. The 80s was really good to sitcoms. They didn't all have to be blockbusters ratings-wise but you could find quite a few good and entertaining little comedies. I always enjoyed IAL.
  20. Someone on my TL referred to Tsitsipas as her "little baklava".
  21. I don't see David Hyde Pierce and/or Jane Leeves being receptive to his right-wing views. When Frasier was on the air, he was muted about his politics but after the show left the air became increasingly vocal, to the point of being obnoxious. I had no problem with him being open about his conservative views, especially since he couched them in his advocacy for victims rights, especially given the tragedies that happened to his father and his sister, which I was highly sympathetic to (even before I personally lost two family members through the tragedy of violence). Over the last few years though, he's become downright Eastwoodsian about his conservative views. JMO, but if Frasier is to be revived without any of the original supporting cast, any reboot will need a very strong supporting cast because I no longer believe Grammer can successfully carry any show on his own (if I ever did). Does anyone remember 'Back To You' where he co-starred with Patricia Heaton? Given their respective resumes, that show should've worked but it was a dry, dull, vapid mess. Most of Grammer's shows post-Frasier have been underwhelming at best. Boss was pretty good but had the benefit of a compelling cast of co-stars. Not for nothing, but David Hyde Pierce won as many awards for Frasier as Kelsey Grammer did. It would be interesting to see how the show gets along without Niles. They'd better get a darn good supporting cast if they do reboot the show.
  22. Are David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves and Peri Gilpin even still talking to Grammar?
  23. Yeah, I noticed him right away but I was only mentioning Grammar as a response to @Khan cringing at Wolk. All three actors have appeared on ATWT in the last decade when there was quite a lot of cringe-inducing writing.
