- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?
Apparently Bailey Chase (ATWT), Alvya Lind and Max Ehrich (Y&R) as well as Cobin Bleu (OLTL 2.0) are all filming a movie called Walk Ride Rodeo that will stream on Netflix next year. It also stars Sherri Shepherd and Missi Pyle. It's being described as a biopic. The entertainment industry has a habit of telling Black entertainers that "there can only be one" and then act shocked when artists get competitive. As women, they also play on any insecurities that anyone might have. Aretha wasn't perfect, and I'm sure she was not immune. Her ex-husband, in declaring that he loved her dearly, cited that she was stubborn and tenacious--qualities that surely secured her longevity but likely didn't always endear her to people. Artists are not always easy people. From personal experience, if you're easy and too nice as a woman and artist-- people take advantage of you. I found this out the hard way. No doubt, Franklin developed a tough exterior and maybe wore that armor even when it wasn't necessary. She was an incredibly talented, flawed human. I love both Aretha and Tina and that's not one of the finer moments for the Queen of Soul but let's not pretend that's the worst thing for a singer to do in the industry. Not when we have music producers still sexually assaulting artists without their careers missing a beat. Tina Turner just lost her son about a month ago. If you were to ask her how high that feud ranked in her list of life's hurts, I'm going to guess a slight from Aretha Franklin would be at the very bottom of her list.- The Aretha Franklin Thread

And it doesn't suit tennis media's narrative of trying to make Konta happen. Just heard something else on a different topic. Someone tweeted that the ITF now also has permission to change the format of Fed Cup without player consent. I just wonder what this will do to players' health going forward. We are already seeing a lot of withdrawals from tournaments and banged up bodies. I think players will resort to what methods they have to, in order to try to preserve their health and their bodies.- The Politics Thread
Further proof that the Trump administration (I use the term very loosely) and it's ill-conceived 'War On Drugs' is even worse than the last two Republican administrations' attempts at eradicating drug abuse. They have surpassed previous years in the amount of deaths though. Bleak New Estimates in Drug Epidemic: A Record 72,000 Overdose Deaths in 2017- ALL: Soap Stars - Where are they now?

Someone posted a clip of Aretha Franklin's interview with Wendy Williams where they discussed who she'd have liked to play her in a biopic. This picture is just so... postworthy.- The Aretha Franklin Thread

All the people (*coughs* GOP *coughs*) who gasped at Gov. Cuomo's statement, didn't gasp at all the atrocities committed on minors (many of whom were never even charged with a crime) at Riker's Island. Y'all can miss me with the fake outrage.- The Aretha Franklin Thread

Thankfully, she left a treasure trove of classic soulful songs and performances. Life isn't easy and neither was Ms. Franklin. I heard that it was pancreatic cancer about two years ago, at least. It would appear that this was the undisclosed illness she was dealing with. Surely, that toughness (and yes, that saltiness!) helped sustain her and perform practically to the very end of her life. She was tough and I'm sure she fought to the bitter end. R.I.P. Queen.- The Politics Thread
The Trump administration's new "War On Drugs" seems just as ineffective as Reagan and Nixon's 'Wars on Drugs'. Dozens overdose on synthetic marijuana in New Haven, Connecticut, authorities say- The Tennis Thread
Usually Haase plays well during the European indoor hard court season but it seems as if he has decided to make a surge during the North American summer hard court season, this time around.- The Tennis Thread
Yeah, Kvitova had no chill last night, lol. I'd rather watch a match with some actual big swings and power hitting where players can produce actual 'kill shots' than a match with endlessly defensive hitting where the ball is in play for damn near 50 shots, where neither player seems capable of finishing a point (I'm looking at you, Simona). It was refreshing to see some "Big Babe Tennis" as Mary Carillo used to call it.- The Politics Thread
It makes a warped kind of sense when you realize that Connecticut is one of the most unequal states in the country and this inequality is steeped in many aspects, chief among them are racial lines. I have family ties to the Northeast and Connecticut is one of those states where I have familial connections. I have also worked in the state and have personally felt the sting of prejudice while there, if not overt racism. People like Jahana Hayes (and myself) are not supposed to be in positions of authority, or power or influence, so the thinking goes. Connecticut has had a number of white male politicians who were utterly corrupt (hence the nickname "Corrupticut" that was once the moniker of the state) who have each tried to exert and regain influence, some after stints in prison. The district that Hayes is running in leans left, as does much of the state. I don't remember Bernie's folks endorsing Stacey Abrams and despite all the hullabaloo, they didn't endorse Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez either. Hm, I'm noticing a pattern. Does anyone else?- The Politics Thread

From the episodes in 1982, I decided to look up the names of writing staff that were unfamiliar to me and came across a name-- Jean Rouverol. Doing a quick search I see that she died just last year at the age of 100. As an actress, she had just started her career as a screenwriter when she was blacklisted. She had quite an interesting biography. Has she been mentioned in any threads before? She wrote a book called Writing for the Soaps. I did a quick search on this site but her name didn't come up. Since she wrote a book on soaps, perhaps someone here has read it?- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
A few pages back we were talking about when Lisa and Barbara partnered for Fashions and when Barbara had Simply Barbara vs. Barbara Ryan Originals. I came across this episode from 1982 and Lisa answers the phone as 'Fashions Limited'. It looks like Dee and Ariel worked there. I'm not sure if Barbara was even involved in the boutique yet, she was too busy being involved in that convoluted story where she kept having visions of the man who would turn out to be Gunnar. She does look beautiful here though. Someone put a LOT of makeup on Ariel! EDT: Okay Barbara was involved, maybe she was partners with Lisa back then but she seems fairly removed from the day to day in this episode. You have to excuse me, I was only in the 2nd grade when this episode came out so, I only have vague memories of some of these characters.- The Politics Thread
