Lindsey Graham called Avenatti a lawyer to a porn star. Wait though...didn't current POTUS sleep with said porn star?- The Politics Thread
Is it just me, or do these allegations sound worse than the previous one? Avenatti has been pressing Charles Grassley to respond. Apparently Grassley has yet to do so, but I don't think he can avoid this. Ms. Sweatnick has worked at the U.S. Mint and the State Department. She has gone through clearance procedures (back when it wasn't just a Trumpian giveaway to relatives). JMO but she won't be as easy to dismiss as Ramirez.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
The summers on ATWT were pretty alive back then!- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
@Darn Two years after that promo, ATWT would be much improved in how they did their promos. I think this also assumes some knowledge of the show and its cast of characters but it would be intriguing enough to pique the curiosity of a new viewer, imo. One of my favorite ATWT-specific promos. My one complaint is that the images speed by so quickly.- As The World Turns Discussion Thread
The promos back then were very uneven. This one assumes that people know about the character of Diana McColl and her run of bad decision-making and string of money problems. IMO, it's a mistake to do a promo that assumes a base level of knowledge about the show and its characters--not the best way to lure in a new viewer but hey, what about that jaunty hat that she's wearing! ATWT had a mix of funny promos (e.g. Dusty asking his legal guardian John Dixon why some lady is in their shower singing a Pointer Sister's song) and more serious ones (Kim being stalked). My favorites were the ones that CBS did to promote their roster of daytime soaps. Personally I think that's where all the creative efforts went. This one was pretty memorable. Back then, CBS Daytime was so much stronger than CBS Primetime offerings, so the daytime shows were often used to promote the primetime.- Hollywood Sexual Harrasment/Assault Thread

Lucinda was trying to buy Diana's yacht out from under Diana? Boy, there's more missing episodes from 1985 than I thought! I guess after that failed, she moved on to try to buy Caroline's but Lisa and Craig beat her to it. For some reason, I think Lisa ended up buying Diana's yacht too (The Yacht Club). Part of the fun of being Lisa had to be that she just went around trolling Lucinda for years, sweeping up property that Lucinda coveted, even mentoring and going into business with Lily, down the road.- The Politics Thread
No one who cares about Latin America and the Caribbean wants anything to do with a U.S. military intervention or backchannel interference. People still have memories of Grenada and Panama, which were unmitigated disasters (tbh, no one except a small group of elites wanted the U.S. back then either). I'm just saying that, in terms of interest, I don't see the same type of hue and cry for even the smallest of diplomatic measures to be taken, the way I've noticed with Syria. Then again, Yemen is being completely ignored and people are starving to death there, so I guess there's really no predicting what will capture the interest of countries like the U.S.- The Politics Thread
I think people are concerned about Venezuela. Maybe not North Americans but those of us with ties to Latin America and the Caribbean are deeply concerned. There have been mass migrations to neighboring countries (yes, there are refugees in this part of the Hemisphere) with many of the usual reactions (even with deportations from countries like Trinidad & Tobago, which caused something of an uproar earlier this year). In terms of Iran, the U.S. could be dragged in by Israel as well, which is far more likely. Israel and Russia are having small diplomatic skirmishes over Syrian airspace right now and Iran is involved since they have a shadow presence in Syria and are the reason why Israel has taken their position in Syria, in the first place.- The Politics Thread
Because it was almost exclusively the province of right-wingnuts who used to remain mostly under their rocks. They're the reason why I absconded from the comments section on Yahoo! as they used to flock there to post their nonsense. Now they feel fully confident in crackpot theories being posted on Facebook and Twitter because they now have their president who will retweet their bullsh*t. Trump loves debt so he won't care about this but this makes me think of Scott Pruitt.- The Tennis Thread
Maybe the press should be asking these players about their mediocre performances than about Carlos Ramos and Serena. I guess there are no quick answers to the first issue. These women are primarily still in their twenties, yet their results are akin to players at the end of their careers. Someone should really be asking them about this. Are they unable to perform with expectations?- The Tennis Thread
Back when being #1 only got a passing glance, I'd have agreed but things have changed. For better or worse, any #1 will be scrutinized more than the rest. It's this way for every player. There is a special weight and responsibility to being the #1 player, or else there wouldn't be those presentation ceremonies to mark the milestone. The weight of expectations are greater.- The Tennis Thread
Is Simona Halep still #1 or nah?- The Politics Thread
But wait...years ago, remember when that woman was shot when she tried to crash her car onto the White House lawn? She had a baby inside who was unhurt? There were conspiracy nuts online trying to insinuate that she was chasing down President Obama for child support, so some such nonsense. Forget about the fact that there was a father for the baby at home who got custody of the child. There were no personal scandals for Obama but that didn't mean that people wouldn't try to make up some.- The Politics Thread
I was actually responding to the idea of previous POTUS being treated similarly. I don't remember a POTUS ever getting laughed at this way at the U.N. during a speech.- The Politics Thread
Never forget that the abuse that Obama experienced had to do with the color of his skin. If you look at the coverage on RT during his years in office, it was very racist. Aspects of Putin's Russia had outright racial animosity toward Obama. If you saw the article on how Russia now courts Afrikaners to move to Russia, you should have a decent idea of just how deeply this animosity runs. African students are routinely beaten and killed in Russia. China also had racial antipathy at the outset toward Obama in the beginning. Things changed somewhat when Xi Jinping arrived because Obama, having been in office when Xi arrived, had a bit more seniority in the position. At first, China was relieved when Trump got elected, believing that they could have a purely transaction relationship with the U.S. with no demands for adherence to the conventions for human rights, etc. I have to wonder now whether China now feels that their relationship with the U.S. is more or less demanding than it was with the previous administration.- The Politics Thread

While Trump has always whined about America being a laughingstock, this video exemplifies just what it means for America to be a genuine laughingstock as it's happening now.- The Politics Thread
There was an article I posted here quite some time ago that describe a lawsuit that he was involved in over an investment that had gone sour. A coffee bar franchise or something (I can't really remember, it was months ago, I think). Although I don't believe it qualifies as a bad scandal, he was being sued over some financial and/or contract issue. I guess it was resolved since I haven't heard of it since. With someone like Trump occupying the White House, I doubt non-payment/business lawsuits matter much in politics now, anyways.- The Tennis Thread
Also, it just seems like many players have caught onto her game and exactly how to beat her. Someone mentioned that she doesn't seem to have a Plan B when she's not in a peak position-- this is looking like a fair assessment of her game, more and more.- The Tennis Thread
That's a good question. I will admit that I really don't keep up with her results but I can't remember her going past the round of 16 this season.- The Tennis Thread
