And what used to look like blossoming romance has now been replaced by sex by a dumpster or countertop sex, which I guess would be considered a step up from dumpster sex. And you know all these couches being used as makeshift beds are not due to spontaneity but due to budget restrictions. Love in the afternoon, my eye! I miss the feeling of comfort where you can fully delve into the world of a particular soap and actually care. Now that I think about it, Maureen Bauer's non-funeral very much reminds me of what ATWT did to Nancy Hughes (Nancy's was worse), two of Nancy's children weren't even there. For their oldest character, who had actually spoken the first bit of dialogue for the series debut, it was a pitiful send-off.

It's not clear how often or how much Max Ehrich will appear on this series but he makes quite an impression in this trailer for Lifetime's upcoming dramedy American Princess.- Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Oh wow, I had totally forgotten about how Maureen Bauer's funeral was written. So much hagiography has been written about how the story provided Emmy material for the actors but people tend to forget that the funeral itself didn't exist and that the fallout of Mo's death was actually contained between mostly Ed and Lillian-- such a shame for a character that was slated for matriarch status. The Reardon's were all but cut off from the onscreen grieving process. I remember being upset, Ellen Parker was the only Maureen I knew at the point (Over the years, I've seen gone back and watched Ellen Dolan in the role and thought she was fantastic, better than her portrayal of Margo Hughes, imo) and Bridget was trapped in some attic. Reading that Logan article brought it back with even more context.- The Politics Thread
Meanwhile Trump is still lying about crowd size. On days like this, it's hard to be hopeful about this country's prospects.- Why are soap fans so averse to online streaming?
All I knew about it going in was Natasha Lyonne (whose talent I've liked since Slums of Beverly Hills) created it and that she and Amy Poehler are the producers. I deliberately avoided any articles or posts, by blog or social media, that discussed the series because I didn't want to risk spoilers, so I pretty much missed all the hype.- Best/Worst Network Promo Campaigns
Thanks @Khan. I remember that first one with Debbi Morgan saying "He just looked so vulnerable". And the promo with her on the pool table, obviously about to be raped reminds me of that Jody Foster movie, The Accused. It doesn't seem like mere coincidence. Also, what was that Bollywood kiss between Adam and Sam? Okay, I posted this one already in the ATWT thread almost two months ago but it is one of my favorites from the Rumor Has It campaign. As I said in the thread, my only quibble is that the images practically fly by. This one isn't bad either. I loved the use of the Robert Palmer song. Y&R had their own version of the Rumor Has It Promo. It gets points for having Stephanie E. Williams and Terry Lester but it doesn't grab me, maybe because the featured story wasn't exactly one for the ages. Clearly, this was before the #1 era.- Best/Worst Network Promo Campaigns
Some of the CBS promos from the mid '90s and into the '00s were pretty inexcusable so I won't defend them but the early 90s still had some decent promos and out of those, CBS was never better than when they were doing passive-aggressive promos that grumbled about them having to cede time to sports programming, like this Guiding Light promo.- Best/Worst Network Promo Campaigns
I'm laughing harder than I have in days watching some of these promos. @Khan Are there any actual promos for Generations? I'd like to see those.- The Tennis Thread
Hmm, indeed! Lawd, I hate getting caught up in this tennis drama but, I can't help it! Is that Twitter poster a bot?- The Tennis Thread
It's really nobody's business for the moment though. We don't know what issues could be at play. Name calling of players is totally uncalled for. This is why many players don't even bother with social media. Except, that it's everybody's business apparently. LOL.- The Tennis Thread
Woz and her Dad. They're like an old married couple who bicker constantly but it's their way of life. Like Liz and Dick in Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf.- The Tennis Thread
Uh, well, I wasn't expecting to hear this news. Is it a money related issue? Or job title/duties? This has to be the most unexpected coaching announcement that I've heard in quite some time.- The Politics Thread
That anti-Jewish vandalism at that bagel shop is reminiscent of something right out of pre-war period. Crazy! It's refreshing to see a number of women enter the presidential race. A pile of men can all enter and no one even entertains the notion that they could possibly cancel each other out, so I hope that kind of thinking doesn't enter the discourse with these women. Unfortunately, the discourse has already been riddled with highly impertinent discussion of some very stupid topics such as-- putting hair back in ponytails and eating chicken, not to mention the old standby foolishness of being like-able enough. I would hope that the discourse is steered toward discussion of meaningful topics, like wage stagnation and tax evasion of the uber-wealthy but somehow I know better. I can only hope that enough finger-wagging will lead to these media outlets being shamed into asking better, pertinent questions.- Why are soap fans so averse to online streaming?

If only they gave a fig about Davis Cup, amirite? They were raving about doubles specialist Nichole Melichar in their Fed Cup coverage yesterday, and she flopped. Just as she flopped when commentators kept raving about her over the summer during her World Team Tennis debut. I continue to be unimpressed by her. At this point, I take everything commentators say with a grain of salt.- The Tennis Thread
TC and that lousy ESPN+ like the ITF, ATP & WTA are just doing a big money grab. TC didn't even have to show the Challengers from Dallas as there is a dedicated website where one can stream it for free. Also, if you have a streaming device like Roku, you can watch on your TV set from their Livestream Channel. Again, without a paid subscription, as long as you have the Roku box. The Challengers on TC is just another event that will compete with, and take time away from matches from the other Tour events. Doesn't make any sense to me. But none of these entities/companies actually care what tennis fans and subscribers want, they care about chasing dollars. It is a listing of who is the tenth ranked player from each country. Who is ranked number 10. For example, who is the #10 ranked player in the USA? Bradley Klahn is the 10th ranked American player. Don't ask me what significance it is to see who is ranked at #10 in their respective countries (shrugs). Tennis loves to create milestones and markers that bear no significance to anyone but stats-crazy people.- The Tennis Thread
I don't know what Londero's draw was like but beating Pella on clay is nothing to sneeze at.- The Tennis Thread
It's all coming down to the doubles. Meanwhile Mackenzie McDonald is in the Dallas Challenger final vs. Mitchell Krueger. Krueger is best known for playing that infamous challenger match vs. Frances Tiafoe where the sounds of that amorous couple could be heard on court. Well, that's how I remember him anyway.- The Tennis Thread
A bit??? I once witnessed Madison dissolve into tears after losing a first set. That incident right there convinced me not to get too invested where she's concerned. Looks like Gavrilova may take this tie to a 3rd set.- The Tennis Thread
Ashleigh is very talented and capable of winning big matches, so I'm not questioning the fact that she won but it's the way that she won, with a seeming collapse by Keys. 6-1 in the second...unless Keys was injured, there's no excuse of that score, after she was dominating early. But I've noticed this about Keys years ago, when the pressure is on. As for Gavrilova, I've seen her lose too many match to answer that one.- The Tennis Thread
The psychology of Davis Cup and Fed Cup interests me. Who cracks under pressure vs. who steps up. If there's a team where I like most of the players (which is rare), I may actually be interested in the actual competition.- The Tennis Thread
A commentator once said "He brings his opponents' games down to his level, he makes them play badly". I watched a few games (very few) of Fed Cup specifically AUS vs. USA and both Madison Keys' and Sloane Stephens' performances in Fed Cup are the reason why I really cannot invest in either of them. Keys was up 3-0 on Ashleigh Barty and had she held serve, Keys would've been up 4-0. I leave for a few minutes and return and it's 3-1. I figure, well, Keys is still up a break but clearly Barty got one of the breaks back. I leave again, this time for longer. I return, Barty is up 5-3. Me: "Keys is totally gonna lose this, isn't she?" Checking back and the match is over. Me: "Australia figures they can win this now, Madison really must've lost". Keys was supposed to be the leader of this team, since she is the highest ranked player on today's squad but just like when Stephens was supposed to be the leader, she flopped. Now, it's up to CoCo, I mean Collins to rescue the tie for the US. Last time around, when the U.S. won the Fed Cup a couple years ago, it was supposed to be Sloane's team but CoCo ended up putting in the work to win the final.- The Politics Thread
