Does anybody know why folks think Medvedev is trash? I know Fucsovics has become popular but I have noticed a lot of negative feedback about Medvedev.

I think some of Shannon's spirited attitude spilled over into a third year (I liked 'bad gal Shannon' who once asked Margo if she wanted her to kick Bab's ass ) before the WGA Strike, which had an unfortunate effect on the show. The other aspect that I believe affected the show was that there was a trickle of really good actors who left between '87-89 because they got noticed for their work, they got opportunities to do other things and they left. In terms of Marland acquiring a morose quality to his writing, this is just a thought I have occasionally but I wonder whether health problems started affecting him earlier than anybody knew. Many people claimed that his death was sudden but perhaps he had health problems for longer than people knew and he simply kept it to himself. If someone is carrying a burden like that, with the demands of writing a show that airs every weekday, some of that is bound to bleed into the work-- especially when the work encompasses emotion. Some of the storylines written during the last years of Marland's life had to do with unexpected illness (Casey Peretti), sudden mortality (David Stewart), deterioration of the brain and the body (Lt. Dan McClosky) , it just makes me wonder if these issues were persistent in his thoughts.

@victoria foxton IKR?? She and Finn have the same chin, shape of face and her nose looks like a combination of Finn and Scott's noses, LOL. When you even look at their physiques, Finn and Peyton were both very long & lean when they were at similar ages. @FaulknerIn Peyton's defense, Jon Hensley was no better when he first got on the show but he had the benefit of being surrounded with highly experienced actresses Elizabeth Hubbard, Lisa Brown, Kathleen Widdoes and Martha Byrne and Brian Bloom who already had years of acting experience by their teenage years. Also, Jon had the benefit of much better writing to cling to until he improved.

The sad irony is that if you were to cast an actress that could be the adult daughter of Scott Bryce's Craig and Finn Carter's Sierra, she'd probably look a lot like Peyton List's Lucy Montgomery, at the time. But yeah, I remember being on the old SoapCity messageboards and people would be screaming "Well, how did she get on a soap when she doesn't even know how to kiss properly!" lmao. For some reason, most of the former ATWT actors who are on Twitter seem to have woefully low numbers of followers, I feel kind of bad about that. I'm pretty sure Twitter began before the show was canceled. The one saving grace PGP could've tried to do for their actors and alumni was help them get a proper follower count.

Right, except Peyton List was with the previous group that consisted of Agim Kaba (Aaron) and Jessica Dunphy (Alison). The one overlap was Soffer's Will Munson who had had a crush on Alison. The writing was pretty bad for both groups, which was the connecting thread, imo. I'd say List, Soffer, Chando and Roerig all have had pretty good careers since then. I wasn't a fan of Magnussen's Casey Hughes but the writing for his iteration of the character was pretty darn lousy and he's done well in his career since those days. Just an aside, but Casey and Alison (essentially two screw-ups) had no business getting married at the show's end. Just one of a few shoulda never been couples that ended up together on that show.

I'd definitely say that 1986-1987 were peak Marland years, although I think there are some key episodes missing from YouTube (e.g. Kim going into labor at the Stewart cabin and giving birth to baby Christopher, while resident Casey Peretti, (who Bob could barely stand up until that time) delivering the baby while Craig, who was ordered "not to leave town" during the Channing murder mystery, of course left town to find Sierra (and they ended up conceiving a baby) all going on at once, LOL. I think GL diverse younger set (which I loved) really got going in the early 90s. ATWT's younger set with Andy, Paul and Lien, whose prime was mostly late 1980s was too small a circle. Now had ATWT added Lauryn Hill and Parker Posey (who came onto the show a few years later) all in the same circle, they'd have had a younger set to rival GL. One thing that worked against ATWT was timing. Talented actors came and left and they didn't always share screen time. Julianne Moore and Marisa Tomei's screen time overlapped but Marisa Tomei was close to leaving by the time that Julianne Moore arrived. Marisa Tomei left before Doug Marland started back in 1985, which is a pity because the writing for Marcy had usually been pretty underwhelming. Steven Weber shared screen time with Julianne Moore but he was there for only a relatively short period of time. Imagine if Marisa Tomei, Julianne Moore and Steven Weber had all shared screen time under Marland's pen. That would've been a great younger set too. Timing. I guess the timing was great for Marisa and Julianne who later won Oscar's and for Steven Weber who has also had a great career for primetime. Not so great for the show though, I think.

That was the period of "Issue TV" that ATWT boxed itself into. ATWT still had great casting but many of their stories simply fizzled during that particular period. I felt like there were some decent and pretty good storylines in the last fifteen years of the show but very little matched up to the stories ending up to '91-92. There were some well cast actors for years afterwards but by '94-'95, the show had taken on this weird sepia toned look, a washed out look, I can't explain it but it just started to look so drab by '96. It was no longer the "must see" soap that I cut my teeth on. If you look at storylines going up to 1989, there is a different energy creeping into the show. There were already a lot of changes in talent by then. I also think by 1995, the cost-cutting measures truly became apparent.

Interestingly enough, the crowd seemed to be with Monfils. I don't underestimate any player who has been in the Top 10. I've heard the Kyrgios has also withdrawn. ...but that can't really be a surprise to anyone, can it?

The Tennis Thread
Well, I watched the match and Monfils was focused, which is not always the case. Tsitsipas tried to take away his timing and it worked for a few points here and there, but Monfils is pretty speedy and caught on fairly quickly. There were a few bad calls but they surprisingly went against Monfils. Carlos Bernades wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed out there today, if anyone was tired, surely it was him. Monfils came out very aggressive, came into net often--he played the type of tennis he's always been capable of but doesn't always put into motion. Also, Monfils mixed up the pace and ultimately, messed with Tsitsipas' timing on the ball. At times, it seemed as if he was beating Tsitsipas at his own game. They had only played once before, so perhaps Monfils learned from that and knew what to expect and how to play him this time.

And I think that neither AOC nor Markey expects everything to have a chance of being put into motion but I think they are hoping for those pieces that are deemed 'do-able'. I liken it to some of my favorite athletes who say they set outrageous goals and when they meet some of them, it turns out to be a huge accomplishment because the goals were so impossibly high. I tried not to judge AOC overall because she is so inexperienced. I know she said some things that showed some ignorance (and in those moments I really couldn't defend) but because I remember how people made snap judgements about HRC during her Senate campaign (I voted for her for the Senate), it was a reminder to me to wait and see how AOC actually goes about the business of governing before deciding whether or not she was hopeless or hopeful. She's learning.

It's not just the media though. There are other people who haven't even read the FAQs of the Green New Deal that have been making salty comments. On the other side, there are those who are ready to attack Nancy Pelosi for using the words "green dream" and "whatever" when mentioning that she hadn't yet had a chance to read the blueprint proposal. It's just odd because AOC did agree with Pelosi that it is indeed a "green dream" and took no offense at Pelosi's remarks. Just as Pelosi took no offense at AOC showing up outside her office to try to push the green agenda. It seems that both women aim to do their jobs, regardless of how they're being cast by various narraties, which have more than a whiff of sexism, imo.

Some of the videos are oddly labeled, without dates, although this one wasn't one of them. I think I watched that episode about a year and a half or so ago because I most remember that odd 1980s gothic style bridesmaid dress that Julianne Moore as Sabrina was forced to model.

The first thing that I thought of when reading that Thai news is that this may pave the way for the Shinawatras to return from exile. I cannot imagine that not happening in the near future. You're right @Faulkner and @JaneAusten this is big news. Thai politics has been characterized by one big upheaval after another for nearly twenty years, so I have to say, it's big news but it doesn't come as that much of a surprise, tbh. It's especially interesting how many people are giving salt to Rep. Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Markey's Green New Deal blueprint without acknowledging that the Republicans generally go big with their proposals-- look at the enormous, deficit-busting tax "reform" that they slid through. At least the Green New Deal proposal is meant to benefit people across economic spectrum, not just the wealthy. The proposal is pie in the sky, yes, but it is a blueprint, subject to amendment.

AsTheWorldStillTurns already has that episode from September 8, 1987. It's been uploaded to YouTube since 2016. I don't think that Lisa was so polite with Lucinda Walsh or John Dixon and she was fairly combative during the times she interacted with James Stenbeck, which, given James' notorious reputation, seemed a little risky on Lisa's part. I'm watching an episode from January 1990 and something I can really appreciate is that the relationship between Lily and Lucinda is much more complex. In a conversation with Lucinda, Lily very bluntly tells Lucinda that she plans to ruthlessly poach Kirk Anderson away from Walsh Industries, even if she has to use Iva to lure Kirk away. The best part is when Heather Rattray's Lily, in a voice dripping with honey, tells Lucinda "It's just business", which is phrase that Lucinda often used to defend even her most cut-throat actions. The look on Lucinda's face is priceless. The scene is great, it's like a game of verbal chess between Lily and Lucinda.

America needs a serious history lesson on what actually constitutes blackface. Unfortunately, the education system has clearly failed many people. I can't believe there are people who don't know that it takes cork or shoe polish as well as people exaggerating features-- what they believe a black person looks like, of course to a caricature level. There are essays and documentaries that detail exactly what constitutes blackface and why many see it as offensive. I see several people, blogs, media outlets that are supposedly knowledgeable get the most basic facts completely wrong. In 2019. It's sad to witness.

Krajinovic can actually be a tricky player, not ideal for someone who has spent a long period out of competition and my lack confidence. Goffin always struck me as a player who needed to play a good number of matches to build on. I never got the sense that he was one of those players who could jump right in and start winning consecutive matches right away after time off. It may take him awhile.

The price the public pays for letting money determine the caliber of most of our elected officials. The way to preserve my mental health at this point is probably to ignore Florida, Virginia and whomever else wants to "confess" to their racist fantasies because this is all too much.

Honestly, there needs to be a national one at this point. I just saw there's another Florida politician who is talking about his stint donning blackface. Six days into Black History Month and this is all that we can talk about. Not the achievements of historical figures from the African American community but blackface-wearing politicians and actors, unprompted confessing their racist revenge fantasies, that nobody wanted to hear. It all feels very disrespectful and self-centered.
