  1. Speaking of Congressional committees.
  2. I share an account so fortunately the cost is split. They still have some very good documentaries like the one I saw about Sam Cooke last week and they have a few international comedies that are pretty entertaining, which you cannot find anywhere else. Someone did make another good point though that it's impossible for anyone who doesn't have access to Netflix to access videos like The 13th at their local library, which I was able to do with many popular HBO and AMC series. Although honestly, it likely the same way for Hulu and Amazon.
  3. She makes a valid point, although I must add that now that Netflix is doing a lot more producing of its own full-length features and "TV" shows, it seems to be giving less time and space to lesser known and unknown talent than it would have in the past. Netflix almost exclusively appears to be going after the big named talent nowadays. I miss seeing little gems by unknown/little-known indie filmmakers from under-represented groups.
  4. This made me chuckle.
  5. Nick was in a thrashing mood this week!
  6. Wang has always been dangerous. As a Venus fan, I discovered this the hard way at last year's French Open (I think it was at Roland Garros). I didn't get to see much of the match but I took a glimpse and saw that Wang was up 3-1 in the third and guessed that she would take the title. Kenin looks to have a promising career but I'm not in the least surprised that Wang took the title.
  7. I only heard of this short film on the night of the Oscars when people started posting about it. Apparently, it's being compared to Green Book as being not a very good film.
  8. This caught my eye. I mean it's a fairly hard left-wing publication but it made a few points worth noting, especially as related to the fixed attention of the media to certain news events while ignoring others (*coughs Jussie Smollet*)
  9. Congratulations to Roger Federer, making a bit of history of his own, winning 100 singles titles!!
  10. Speaking of warped Democrats, while the media obsessed over Jussie Smollet, how much media coverage has this been getting? Because other than the Black gay men on my social media, I haven't seen much about this elsewhere.
  11. Please tell me that that picture/graphic was made by a fan with Microsoft Paint. Does the TC like Tsitsipas, or nah? Someone could've have made a more presentable picture.
  12. Monfils trusts too much (the officials, other players, etc.) and not everyone is as much about fair play as he is. Venus had a tendency to do this as well but Wimbledon 2006, was the beginning of that lesson that the linespeople can often make egregious errors. She still tends to trust the chair umpires a bit too much for my liking but at least, she challenges more recently and she tends to be correct when she does. Maybe once Monfils watches the video, he'll take the lesson from that. So, if all these journos were trying to give Elina credit for Monfils' winning streak, what does that make her now?
  13. When has anyone actually claimed that reparations involved "writing out a check"? If Bernie is against it, he should just come out and say so. Don't make it out to be some sort of handout (which the wealthy already get plenty of, if we're being honest) that's not what reparations is about. At all.
  14. Although I enjoy watching Stefanos play, he does come off sometimes as an entitled brat. Monfils had a chance to close out the match in straight-sets in the 2nd set TB and made a big blunder in not challenging a ball that turned out to be out--even the commentators called it right away and wondered why Monfils did not challenge. When he sees the video, he's going to want to kick himself. Anyway, congrats to Tsitsipas on making the Top 10.
  15. Even though I've been reading about this on and off, I must admit, I was dubious that the case would go any further than the charges stage because of previous times he's faced charges that were dropped. The fact that Netanyahu has linked Likud to a far right-wing group seems to have disgusted many Israelis. Did Joe Biden really say this?? He cannot be running for office because I don't know any Democrats that would agree with this statement.
  16. Wasn't there a quote somewhere from Nick where he says that whenever he plays Nadal, it's as if he senses "blood in the water" or something like that?
  17. I have grown up and gone to school with both Indian and Pakistani acquaintances and a few are friends. This conflict has been simmering since Partition in '47, particularly as it relates to Kashmir with the elaborate military parades, bordering on spectacle on the border. Even in the U.S., that conflict has spilled over in bizarre ways. I remember a few of the Independence parades that happened in NYC and one, in particular where a conflict in scheduling damn near led to a collision on the parade route between some Indian parade-goers with some Pakistani parade-goers. People are so focused on Iran and to some extent, North Korea and their nuclear arsenal while ignoring the fact that India and Pakistan hold nuclear weapons with very little effort to get either country to scale down their nuclear arsenal. Also, Trump, in his scattershot "policy" (if you can call it a policy) toward India and Pakistan(which Trump/W.H. treats with borderline contempt) has made the conflict even worse, imo. In other news, Michael Cohen's opening statement is like "Whoa!"
  18. Yes, I do remember reading that she had studied painting for awhile before going into law. With the litigiousness of our society, she'll never be out of business, that's for sure! As for Deakins' dynamic with Liz Hubbard, I thought that Lily's world, at that time was written to be very tightly constructed around Lucinda. (I wish that there were more episodes uploaded to YouTube because frankly, I was so young when those episodes first ran that my memories of anything not posted to YouTube has become cloudy over decades). In the waning months of Deakins as Lily, the character was just growing into conflict with Lucinda as the beginnings of the Sierra "saga" and the mystery of the emerald was just taking off. Before, the conflict was mainly generic teen stuff, her sneaking out to go dancing with Dusty, which because she and Brian Bloom had such great playful chemistry, came off as a lot of fun (I like it when teens are teens and we actually get to see them have fun sometimes!). As the mystery having to do with Sierra's identity was just beginning, I think it actually gave Lucy Deakins more "notes" to play, dramatically-speaking. Lily was starting to assert herself, especially where Lucinda was concerned. I remember a scene where Lily pointedly tells Lucinda "I'm not afraid of you anymore" and you can see that Lucinda is totally taken aback by the statement. It kind of said, in a nutshell, the past and present state of Lily and Lucinda's relationship. In a sense, it would've been interesting to see how that storyline played out with Deakins in the role. It would've been interesting too to see how the writers would've written Lily's budding sexuality with Deakins in the role, especially seeing how very young Deakins looked at that time.
  19. It's a huge disgrace @Soapsuds but I just don't have faith in TC or the tennis governing bodies, in general. They focus on all the wrong things and you're right, they crave money and seem to make all their decisions based on that factor.
  20. I agree that 1984 definitely looks like a transitional period. One half of the show's latest supercouple has left and you can tell that the show is scrambling to try to fill that void and many of their young adult characters seem to be treading water (as is evident by those lackluster conversations between Frannie, Kurt and Jay). Brian McColl seems fairly generic here (just before his romance with Barbara) and Gunnar and Karen seem to be on their way out. It is fascinating when you think of how this year fits into the general context of how the 1980s stories were laid out for this show. I also am a fan of Lucy Deakins, the first Lily Walsh. This episode is not such a great example but in other episodes you can see that she and Brian Bloom have really good, genuine chemistry. The writing seemed determined to veer toward the poor little, rich (and spoiled) girl characterization when Martha Byrne took over the role. As for Dusty/Brian Bloom, I don't recall who was directing at this time but I think that Bloom could have used a good director to guide him through some of those scenes in terms of display of emotions. I remember, in an interview, Julianne Moore mentioned that there wasn't much rehearsal time at ATWT. Given Bloom's age, a good focused, purposeful director would've been all the more important. I wonder whether TPTB had caught wind of Brian Bloom's film work prior to some of these episodes? They might have spent too much time watching his work in the Sergio Leone film Once Upon A Time In America which would have debuted early that same year. Bloom played a very precocious character who actually goes to see a prostitute. Brian probably shot that film when he was 13 but in that film he looks 12! @BillBauerEven more reason why I think that early Dusty Donovan might have served as a template for early Holden Snyder because of the restless, angsty, volatility. With Holden though, was the added element of sex. Anybody remember how predatory Holden came off as he and Meg plotted to drive a wedge between Dusty and Lily? Part of Holden's original plan was to seduce a teenage Lily (and no, I'm not speaking of a figurative seduction, I mean literal) until the added complication of him developing genuine feelings came into play. Very early Holden was calculating and also creepy.
  21. Is Tennis Channel going to cover Gimelstob's trash runs, since they seem obsessed with showing him out and about these days?
