  1. Their version of QAF was also a soap, at least once they got through the first season. I don't know if they ever called it that or not. I wonder if their discarding of any soap label is one of the reasons Sisters went so off the rails in the last few seasons.
  2. Another January 1983 episode - Luke's memorial. There are some nice flashbacks, especially the one with Luke and Robert around 46 minutes. I notice Tiffany is the only one who didn't get a flashback - I guess there wasn't enough material between them alone. At least she got a speech. These are also the last days of Susan Moore - interesting comparing her to Willow as she often is in the GH thread. Susan is so hard. You can see why, after the way men treated her, but she's a fascinating cautionary tale. The opening Heather/Scott scenes are probably one of the only times I've seen Robin Mattson getting to be sexy on a soap. The Scotty/Heather relationship was compelling for the sleaze that it was in this period - a shame that this later led to Franco. At least Robin got a final few paychecks before she had to retire.
  3. I wasn't sure if the very bland Blair Redford was cast before or after the move.
  4. Sam and Valentin were both Cassadines.

  6. I missed that one or forgot about it. Thanks.
  7. @I Am A Swede @Vee Not directly from the mouth of Jean Marsh, but I thought you might be interested in Alan Carr reading an old Kenneth Williams letter where Kenneth shared some gossip he'd gotten from her. Alan Carr reads a gossipy letter from Carry On star Kenneth Williams
  8. Courtney did on AW, but only for about a year. I'm still surprised Court never popped up on ATWT during Marland's tenure. I wonder if she just wasn't interested.
  9. You're right. I'm always hoping for surprises, especially before time runs out with decay. In an ideal world AI and advancing technology could be used to help with these purposes, instead of what it is actually used for.
  10. Thanks @slick jones @jam6242 @Paul Raven I'd never heard of this show. I wonder if any survives. Given the Dumont factor, maybe not.
  11. Who would you say were the best and worst recasts?
  12. I haven't watched in so long...seeing that this is the Chancellor Mansion today is a heartbreaker.
  13. I hadn't been watching these so just got my first look at Joan. Worried for her... I've been keeping up with Donna's Instagram - she's very active, or whoever runs her page is. She's been promoting the anniversary of The Eyes Have It, with a drag queen doing their makeup similar to her (a nice way to pay tribute but I was annoyed that they used organ music to represent '80s soaps), and she also shared a story that Ryan Murphy made everyone in the makeup department watch the video before she guest starred on one of his shows.
  14. Great to see your reviews again @Maxim Marty's scenes with Jessica are some of my favorites of this period so I'm glad you enjoyed them too. You are right about what a mess Alex is around this point. They just shouldn't have done the Mortimer story. Susan Diol is wonderful as Angela. She gives her so many layers. You capture the appeal of Bo and Nora, why so many viewers loved them - more than the show and the actors seemingly did at various points over the years.
  15. I can't remember the names of the ladies, but there was a riveting, ugly story on the South African "soapie" Generations about two women who worked at a company - one of them was a former prostitute and madame who'd worked her way in, while the other was the sister of the CEO. There were class issues which fueled resentment between them, but the ex-hooker mostly just wanted power. She found out dirt on the sister and began blackmailing her to give her more control over the company, little by little. There was one scene where the ex-hooker was going to back down, as she felt guilty, but the sister spewed so much bile at her about her past and being worthless that she changed her mind and only increased her demands. The story concluded right before some big board meeting where the ex-hooker would have had her big moment of taking the company. The sister shot her to death, and, after apologizing to her shocked brother, jumped off the balcony in shame.
  16. There was such a vehemence against Gio from Sprina fans, it never would have worked even in the slim chance the show had gone for it, but I think the actors would have worked well together if they'd had the chance. It's a shame that Joss remains some dark cloud over the younger set. Even when she does something I should agree with, like believing Michael is innocent of shooting Drew, I still don't have much use for her.
  17. This is a fun scene with Tiffany later in the '80s (one of her more famous scenes), as long as you don't mind spoilers. Sean & Tiffany's Wedding: Just Shut Up and March
  18. Someone else will know better but I think Tiffany was introduced as a spoiled actress, like one from a '30s screwball comedy. At worst she was probably naughty. Later on she would get nastier or tough at times, when she was fighting for what she loved (like her nephew), but she was mostly broken and needy.
  19. Thanks. I do wonder what approach they would have had, especially as I don't see how many of the stories could have continued. I wonder if he had suddenly aged Endora as part of the plan if the show had been picked up. I was watching a few of these clips and until then never even knew they'd aged Endora. They also get in a little jab at Direct TV. I also never knew they used a lesbian couple as part of the true love to fight against Satan, or whatever terminology. Nice to see JER had those moments. Endora & Tabitha 7/30/08 - YouTube Endora 8/5/08 Sometimes I'm tempted myself, but I have so much I already don't watch, I just end up going through clips instead.
  20. I can see that. The Windsors are more like the Cassadines than they'd care to admit...
  21. Is it wrong that I kind of prefer the second? The first looks like rejected Nintendo Power cover art for Castlevania. There was just pure hate - for women, for the show's history, the Qs, everything. It was very ugly. The only time some in charge seemed to get more life in their work was when they could have characters go on self-righteous, abusive tirades. One of the positives around that time was making Sam so dark and crazy, but that was seemingly just done because Kelly had contract issues or whatever.
  22. I figured Gio was brought in for Joss or they had already been planning a triangle with Emma and Gio and Joss so I am always expecting that to come around again. The only thing I ever remember about Vaughn is the actor's modeling portfolio. I don't think Brennan/Carly would have lasted even with Measure, because the powers that be don't seem to know how to write any Carly pairing, maybe due to resenting that they never get the Jason/Carly pairing they want (and one I wanted...back in 1998, not now). The show definitely wastes Ric Hearst, they could have done more with Ava or with Liz (even if I don't think Liz would ever get involved with him again), or even Alexis, but Ric has a lot going on in his life and lives on the East Coast so I imagine that may be why he hasn't been on of late.
  23. Thanks! For some reason I can only embed now if I use the Youtube app.
  24. After watching the episode: I assume Rick Springfield was only back for a short time, but the very sorrowful take on cheating (AKA "wanting to explore options") was out of step in Monty's punchier era. He seems to have wandered out of an episode from 10-15 years earlier. Rick does play that sorrow well (and he looked very nice which was a bonus). I liked the complicated Bobbie of this episode in that she unapologetically goes behind Tiffany's back, then squirms when Holly brings up her disdain for the idea of someone cheating. I didn't realize until looking it up that Demi Moore lasts all the way to early 1984. They sure cut their losses with Janine Turner as she didn't even last a year! Beyond the visuals, I've never really understood the appeal of Janine Turner. Demi, I could understand more, with the husky voice and the old Hollywood beauty (especially as this is before her unfortunate enhancements), but she's just not good in anything I see of her as Jackie. The best part of her scenes is her co-worker's tight trousers. I also didn't realize they were setting up Robert and Holly before Luke's temporary exit. Smart to frame it as they did here - two people who are drawn together but are not yet in a period of being aware of their feelings for each other. Sharon Wyatt is just wonderful. The best scene in the episode is her keeping a brave face as Noah leaves, then, instead of weeping and wailing after he's gone, quietly laying her head on the couch, as if she's a child. There's something very odd in seeing Jackie, Heather and Tiffany together. I have always associated Heather with other character groups. I knew she was still around because she's involved in Susan Moore's last days, but something about her feels left behind. I can see why Monty didn't want to keep the character around, at least not enough to give Robin Mattson more money, or however that departure went. Speaking of Susan, Gail Ramsey has a commercial in this episode, which is a surprise as she was (barely) still on GH at this time.
  25. No, I meant them. I'd looked for them a few times and never could find them. Thanks. I'll look again.
